DAILY DEBATE: What needs do we still need to address in the Portal?

You claimed you wanted more Des and WRs, but those are arguably our two deepest rooms lol. Why waste money on a bad group of 5 End when you talent high profile recruits who you’re playing a lot
Our WR room is definitely not deep. DEs i agree w you.

They’ve done a decent job on paper this year of the portal

I’m hopeful they’ve learned their lesson in only going after high quality players

Last thing I want to hear is a room is thin next fall
This is my opinion (it's ok to disagree), but I truly believe that high school recruiting and retention of those recruits (the good ones anyway) is paramount to the success of the program long term and that you fill in the gaps via high caliber players in the portal. Yes, I know that's easier said than done, but if my choice is playing a sophomore with upside vs a senior transfer JAG, I'm taking the youngster. Again, just my opinion, but it's the reason that i pesonally only really want us to bring in high caliber upper classmen via the portal (unless some young guy like JJ slips through early).

Osu Class of 2024: JJ smith (1st) and Graham (59)
Miami Class of 2024: Trader (42nd overall composite), Carr (67th overall composite), Robinson (170th composite overall player)
OSU class of 2025: Porter (31st overall), Miller (227 overall), Jones (360), Bell (275)
Miami class of 2024: Moore (124st overall), Toney ( 5 star if he didn't reclassify), Upshaw (400)

Trader, Carr, Toney and Moore are some of the highest ranked on this list lol. OSU obviously has recruited better than us at this position, but let's not act like we haven't recruited at an elite level here. You will get those top 20 players (JJ, Embuka, Wilson, SmithNjigba) when YOU DEVELOP YOUR HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITS, not rely on low end portal wrs every single year

Note: Olave 399th overall recruit and Marvin Harrison was the 160th. Mclaurin was 188. Campbell was 140. Y

I see we are engaging in the time-honored CIS tradition of watering down the word elite. Carry on.

Need ( starters ) : WR, DT, MLB, S

Want (depth pieces) : QB, G, RB, DE
Again why do we need DE depth when we have mcconothy, Blount, picket, Bryant, Lightfoot and Lowe? We don’t need to keep getting these low end depth pieces at the defensive line

I literally put ( want) vs (need). You make a valid point though.

1 WR. 1 RB. 1 S.

One more experienced wide receiver.
One more running back for depth (we have only 4)
One more safety for insurance.

I just think that's waste of money. For starters, the odds of us brining in a starting caliber DE when we have Bain and Messidor are low. We paid a lot of money for guys like Lighfoot, Picket, Mcconothy and Blount. If we bring in those low end depth portal ends, some of those high profile recruits will leave and then we need another big portal hall come winter. The cycle will never end
Waste of money? Are we trying to compete for the acc and in the playoffs or just be a solid team?

Who cares how much we paid for recruits, you wont ever hit on all of them and if they aren’t ready to play yet or they aren’t good then you should bring in a proven guy…This is if we are trying to really compete. If we are ok with being a mid team then just keep what we have

Also im not talking about low end portal guys, im talking about the best we can get. If that’s a low end portal guy then it is what it is but just thinking guys who aren’t even physically developed will be consistent rotation players then yea we’re setting ourselves up for failure
