DAILY DEBATE: What needs do we still need to address in the Portal?

Thank god we don't have you running our program. God if you think we are bad now, I can't imagine if we went forward with your logic
You're speaking at the mopiest of the mopes. While he makes a valid point on occasion, his expectations are so astronomically out of reality. He literally expects us to win/play for the natty every single year and anything less is a complete failure. It's why he's such a miserable person and why a lot of folks don't engage him other than through third party conduits. Once you disengage, he actually becomes a really interesting mental health specimen to study.

The portal is not where you go for backups. We have three years of evidence thus far and I don't want a fourth, even if we do find another name like Lucious.
I’m mainly looking at 7 straight games and potentially 8 straight with ACC championship game.

I don’t want to be thin at any position

There will be some injuries after Notre Dame and UF surely

I’m hopeful next year we can ease off being dependent on portal pieces.

I’m a big proponent on high school recruiting, the problem it’s been way too many whiffs for Miami classes, not enough elite talent

Francis Mauigoa is and was an elite talent. That’s the standard and bar
To be honest I don’t think moving forward any program will rely on the portal less. Maybe splitting hairs

I don’t think that’s necessarily an indictment of a teams recruiting either. It just doesn’t seem to be the way things are headed

You claimed you wanted more Des and WRs, but those are arguably our two deepest rooms lol. Why waste money on a bad group of 5 End when you talent high profile recruits who you’re playing a lot

I have PTSD after watching us pick up guys like Logan Sagopolu and Jon Denis. There are a lot more, but I already threw up a little in my mouth and I don't like the taste.

I'm going to make your life worse; Gore, KJ Cloyd, Rocky Shelton, Riley, Alston Isiah Taylor, Agude, Moultrie Caleb Johnson Lichtenstien and Marley cook. All cheap defenders "brought in for depth"

I thought cloyd was pretty good. Agude didn’t have the impact here I expected but he’s hung around the league

They’ve done a decent job on paper this year of the portal

I’m hopeful they’ve learned their lesson in only going after high quality players

Last thing I want to hear is a room is thin next fall

I want 2 starting caliber WRs with experience, preferably Juniors or Seniors

When you pay your QB $3-$4 million, it’s not time to go frugal. You better win the ACC this year

That's fine, then don't complain when you lose your younger production to the portal, and then we need a big portal haul again come winter. Carr and Trader aren't going to be WR4 and WR5. Furthermore, I like those options better than bringing in a wr3 like Sam Brown or Horton

I'm not a fan of Mesidor and Bain starting. QB2 anyone with in game experience or high potential. I agree about RB, but Lyle may not sign off on that.
U think a better edge will be there after spring? Me personally I actually like them both starting for 1st and 2nd down. Heavy edge setters then bring those quick Edge rushers on for 3rd down. Pickett Lightfoot lowe CMC. I know unproven but I still like them rn. QB I would give rashada a chance. RB take anyone with a pulse

I view CJ Daniels as a WR3 type player

Trader and Carr have a lot to prove in spring practice. Can either of them be a WR2?

7 catches for 100 yards combined between the two

I’m not ready to anoint them to anything personally

That's why they have this thing called spring football. Idk if you've ever heard of it, but what happens is the young players have the opportunity to get meaningful reps in practice. I think you'll be presently surprised when our spring portal class is very small. How many wrs has OSU gotten in the portal when they lose first rounders every year? They got a coach who preaches "next man up" develops his recruits. My point is that if Carr and Jojo aren't ready to start, we have serious coaching issues. If we don't develop and give young guys opportunities to get meaningful reps, our high school recruiting will suffer long term

WR - Want a P4 guy who had a 50+ receptions, 700+ yards type season last year. Plenty of guys in the Big 12 and ACC who fit this. Trebor Pena from Cuse is at the top of my list. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4575862/trebor-pena

MLB - Not sure if these guys become available in the second window? Stars at the position that is. Money talks, but MLB's are usually team captain personalities. Not sure if they leave. Dream scenario would be to pull Kyle Louis from Pitt. He's more OLB but he's a maniac. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4880273/kyle-louis

DT - I think Damoine will want to flex his recruiting prowess in the portal. I think we pull a Barrow type impact guy. My dream would be Jayden Jackson from OU and get two seasons out of him. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/5132635/jayden-jackson

SAF - Starter. Not sure if one of our CB's transitions there and cements himself as a starter. AJ Haulcy from Houston is my pick here. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4905664/aj-haulcy

Brian Hartline best asset is recruiting high level WR recruits and stacking his room every year

Jojo and Carr are not even on that level of recruit out of high school, they were the 14th and 21st in their class? It might just take time for them to develop? They’re not elite prospects

Osu Class of 2024: JJ smith (1st) and Graham (59)
Miami Class of 2024: Trader (42nd overall composite), Carr (67th overall composite), Robinson (170th composite overall player)
OSU class of 2025: Porter (31st overall), Miller (227 overall), Jones (360), Bell (275)
Miami class of 2024: Moore (124st overall), Toney ( 5 star if he didn't reclassify), Upshaw (400)

Trader, Carr, Toney and Moore are some of the highest ranked on this list lol. OSU obviously has recruited better than us at this position, but let's not act like we haven't recruited at an elite level here. You will get those top 20 players (JJ, Embuka, Wilson, SmithNjigba) when YOU DEVELOP YOUR HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITS, not rely on low end portal wrs every single year

Note: Olave 399th overall recruit and Marvin Harrison was the 160th. Mclaurin was 188. Campbell was 140. Y
