DAILY DEBATE: What needs do we still need to address in the Portal?

If we want to go down that route, it's fine by me. Just don't complain when we lose guys those high profile recruits we just got because we went in a different direction. Carr and Trader don't want limited snaps this season and spend a lot of their time on the bench
Let the crème rise to the top, we’re in win now mode.

If those players out play the others then so be it, but the inexperience and lack of production scares me

I know for a fact Kevin Beard said the freshman last year were not ready to play. Not sure if it was playbook and or physically ready

I saw Rob Gronkoswki in an interview talk about Aaron Hernandez being smart, that he picked up the playbook in 2 weeks, but Gronk didn’t fully pick it up until week 8 of their rookie season so that’s why he didn’t play very much.

We got a lot of concerns if the guys in the 2023 and 2024 class don't take that next stop, and that goes for all positions. We paid A LOT of money for some of these guys so if they aren't ready to go, our staff isn't where it needs to be. This is especially true for the WR and Dline room. You know our development/evaluations are failing if we need big portal overhauls every single period

That 2023 class is a black hole, it’s really turned out to be horrendous. 2024 class really needs to take a step forward. And the 2026 class has to be elite, find some players ready to step in from day 1 for the trajectory of this program

It's hard to take you seriously when you say the 2023 was horrendous lol. That class will have two first round picks. Fletcher is an NFL back who hasn't even participated in a spring practice yet. Bryant switched positions and was already buried behind a deep room. Kinsler and Samson are again buried behind a deep room and we all knew it would take those kids a few years to develop. Brown Poppo and Horton had injuries to deal with sophmore year and will elevate their game under this new staff. It's hard to see Ray Ray's full potential when you're stock behind the best slot WR in the country lol. Everyone cried when Riley Williams got hurt, and he was stock behind a future starting NFL TE and a 9th year. Look at Kaleb Spencer at VT. The point is you can't call them trash when they're all still very young and have a lot to prove

2 WRs
Edge rusher
RB
FS
DT

-We have 1 proven receiving threat at WR and TE literally 1 and he’s not close to a wr1
-I like the youth at edge but still think we need a proven guy
- Run game will be more important we need a game changer here
- Honestly don’t know who is gonna start here
- We have what two? One was just a rotation player for us, one is from la tech?

Honestly don’t have much hope that we will fill most of these, since mario got here we have had needs that should be addressed in the 2nd portal window and they rarely get fixed…Then we just see those positions get talked up in the work outs and spring practice reports, then people just push it aside until it hurts us in the season

God if we need an Edge rusher, I got some serious concerns with Taylor. Same with Beard if we need a second WR
He’s recruited well but most of the guys that i think would really impact are probably not ready physically

With that logic, you should just recruit a small group of developmental guys in high school and just prioritize your roster rebuild in the portal every single year. OSU, Bama, Georgia, Texas and Oregon do that right? They really seem to prioritize the portal instead of developing their own high school talent
Your first problem is comparing Miami to schools that care about football on an elite level. Get that **** out of your mind. We don't recruit at that level and that isn't our competition.

Good thing we got 7 months to get them there. If you cant get Blount, Mcconothy, Bryant, Picket and lighfoot ready to make an impact behind Mesidor and Bain, then you have no business being on this staff.

You kinda missed the point lol. We've out recruited almost every ACC team the last 20 years, yet we've only played in the ACC Championship game once. If we're relying on a big portal addition after the spring, we got serious problems with our staff

Definite:
1 WR

One step down from DT:
1 DT

Question Marks we should be looking, especially if we don't like what we see in spring.
1 LB (Definite if we lose more than 1, I expect us to lose 1)
1 DB (Preferably a safety or nickle type, again if we lose a guy or two further this becomes more definite)

Could use Depth
1 RB ( or maybe even a TE if you have Lofton getting carries at RB)
1 OL (probably more so interior, but either could help. Again if you lose another, then you bump this up priority)
1 QB (would love a senior backup with experience. happy to carry a clipboard, especially if Judd Anderson is showing nothing)

And obviously you don't pass up any big time talent who wants to come even if not major need (additional WR, a bit-time DE, etc)

Good luck to you.
I've said a starting WR, LB, Safety (starter or depth) and probably an RB 4/5 in case of injuries. If we start adding De's , Dts, and multiple Wrs, we clearly have failed to develop our talent. If Scott, Picket, Lightfoot, Carr, Trader, Blount, etc aren't taking the next step to contribute, then I've got serious concerns about our staff
