DAILY DEBATE: What is your biggest concern on defense?

Like mario said the fundamentals and basic stuff is killing us right now. OCs are forcing our rules to break so easily now.

We keep losing the edge of the defense is my main concern, because thats like day 1 ****. Its been manny level bad these last two weeks.

Its one thing for our IDL to just get mauled but teams most explosive plays are coming from us losing the edges. This was all over guidry Marshall film too, so im not surprised but it seems everybody knows now

your concern was Baron ont here and not the dts getting completely swallowed.?.

I agree if he does reset the line a bit but if he did the cut back still was there and the dude walks in still or gets tackled at the one by Harris possibly.

That play was schemed up beautifully by them...

To much times in the run game we have two lbs in the interior getting blcoked or running into wrong gaps.
I just used that play to show poor play by the end. I don’t disagree with the other points you made.

i thought yall said we might be better at safety without JW and Kam Kinchens.

They goofed in the transfer portal again....

they brought in Savion Riley he apparently got beat out and they didnt replace him...they only brought in Dyoni Hill at CB....didnt bring in anymore with an abundance of cbs out there.

The secondary is a huge issue moving forward considering i dont even think we faced a really good wr group yet...in two weeks we will definately see as Brohm made light work of guidry last year it may be worse this year.

Do you think UL QB/WR/TE combo is better than Cal and Va Tech?

Our secondary. OJ has been the only baller. Porter has been solid. Powell started off great, but last two weeks has been exposed, specially this last week. Harris has been buns on coverage and takes terrible angles and makes bad reads, which has led to some huge plays for the opposition. Hill has been hit-and-miss, and Alderman has been buns.

Grades so far:

O.J. - A
Porter - B-
Powell - B-/C
Harris - C-/D
Hill - C-
Alderman - F

I feel like I need to yell “PASS!” From my seat to help them boys out
They look confused on the back end. They're trying to adjust it right and it just fails.

Unsure if we need to get more basic with stuff.

Pretty much has been said but….

- Over-agressiveness which causes players to be out of position.

- Guidry being outcoached. I don’t think Guidry is a bad coach but he’s takes way too long to make adjustments/get his players settled down. If it’s a problem the previous week, don’t let it happen again. Teams like Cal should not put up 38(31) against the #7 team in the country especially after only 9 against FSU. Does FSU have a better defense? Looking like it after these last two games.

- I think Ray Charles could see that this DB room was a weakness heading into the offseason. The recruiting classes the last few years in that group has flat out sucked with miss after miss. OJ seems to be a diamond in the rough but that’s not always going to happen. Stafford still can’t see the field over some very slow DBs. You can say what you want about Kitchens and Williams, they put this current group of safeties to shame and Williams had no business playing safety. Speed and strength is clearly lacking when it comes to this current group of DBs.

People were worried about our DTs holding up against the run and that teams were going to be able to just run right at us. It hasn’t been the case at all. We’re quite stout up front. We get killed in space. Teams get the ball on the edge with screens and tosses and kill us. Some of it is physical but outside of Kiko, I don’t think we’re slow. We’re just out of position a lot. We also get caught with our backs to the ball playing man coverage.

Scheme. We have been playing into our weak points instead of masking them. Very concerning. 2nd is subpar talent almost across the board. 3rd is nobody can tackle

Our secondary deficiencies and the blue print out there for all to see.

UL has the 4th ranked QB . Their best WR and TE are 2nd and 78th in the conference in receiving.

Cal’s QB is 10th. Their WR and TE are 46th and 59th

VT’s QB is 12th in passing. Their WR and TE are 14th and 57th respectively.

A lot of teams utilize their 2nd and 3rd receivers way more than their TE but this is where they are at.

Our guys are #1, #1 and #23 in those categories 🙌🏾

Scheme and coaching.

Stop playing so much man. Play zone and instill in these players to just do their job. Players falling for eye candy and trying to do too much is on the coaches.

Opponent long passing plays:

10+ Yards-
Miami 46 (84th in the country)/ Texas 19 (1st)

20+ Yards-
Miami 15 (59th in the country)/ Minn 5 (1st)

30+ Yards-
Miami 6 (45th in the country)/ 3 Teams with 0 (1st)

40+ Yards-
Miami 5 (100th in the country)/ 8 Teams with 0 (1st)

50+ Yards-
Miami 2 (129th in the country)/29 Teams with 0 (1st)

60+ Yards-
Miami 2 (106th in the country)/ 57 Teams with 0 (1st)

Stats are a bit skewed as most teams have played 5 games, some 4.
Also, 1 game throws our stats off on long plays.

The big plays are an obvious problem.
The bigger issue I have is the 10+ yard plays.
Texas is less than 3.8 per game, where we're at 7.6.
Given the offenses we played? C'mon man.

At the beginning of the year I said we had to bring the D every game.
"We ain't doing it".

My biggest concern is our DBs biting on rudimentary **** and just not being where they need to be. Too much of it, too.

I would give our CBs a B, LBs and Safeties a C. That is a problem. We just aren’t good enough right now at LB and Safety.
