DAILY DEBATE: What is your biggest concern on defense?

That these guys are consistently out of position.

Guidry needs to understand that we don't have to have the best defense in the country. They just need to be good. And more so, he needs to sync his defense up with the offense. He needs to know when to take chances and when to play bend but don't break.

Honestly, right now with UL coming up, Guidry. He got outcouched last year against them and he is struggling now going into this game.

The indiscipline and Unsoundness. We lack talent in the back 7 but so does 100 other teams. It’s guys who aren’t that good who don’t know they aren't that good so they’re flying around trying to make plays they can’t make. Gap discipline and filling assignments and trusting the guy next to you has been horrible for 2 weeks. We can’t do the hard stuff so we have to be good at all the easy stuff and we’ve gotten worse every week for a month.

Obvious target is the secondary, but issues are much bigger. As stated by others: failure to set the edge, out of position, over pursuit, **** poor tackling. VT and Cal coaches have exposed weaknesses. Hopefully self-scouting and evaluation during the bye will clean up some of the issues. We’re playing hard for the most part, but seems hair on fire & undisciplined.

Fundamentals seem to have gone out the window.. even simple stuff we look down right bad and everything a OC schemes up seems to be working with incredible results..

Not a good look when inept offenses become explosive

We need to watch for the HB and TE dump offs. Teams seen last two weeks that has been our biggest issues. Need to have LB play more discipline. As well as crossing routes love to see us go more to a zone defense since we don’t have a lot of speed to cover the backs coming out of the backfield

Eye discipline
Leverage and anchor points on the perimeter
Putting the ball carrier on the ground
Communication in coverage

Two types of passing defense breakdowns...

1. Shorter passes to the outside that inexplicably turn into 40+ yard TDs because we don't seem to have a second person available to make the tackle...

2. Open running WRs deep in our secondary when we seem to know who those deep threats are, and while we are not rushing 6 guys on the play...

The secondary, Guidry bein over reliant on aggressiveness, teams being able to get out on the edge on us, and when that happens the LBs seem to be nowhere. Imma say it again 2 tackles from a LB in a game, something is wrong.
