DAILY DEBATE: What is your biggest concern on defense?

There's too much man coverage in the secondary. Teams are manipulating our DBs forcing them to communicate correctly and it's putting us into bad matchups. We don't have the personnel to play predominately man coverage. It was much better with Brown covering the slot. Without Brown, we should play a lot more zone and eliminate the big plays.

We give up way too many explosive plays, can't continually blame it on players, eventually the coaches have to be held responsible and that means Guidry. Also the tackling particularly in the secondary is poor.

Real men have no concerns.

Aside from OJ and maybe DPJr, the entire secondary has stunk. More specifically, Jaden Harris biting on fakes and overpursuing. Meesh Powell looked slow. Misdirections and motions are letting the offenses use our aggressive attacking style against us.

Here's another thing that seems to be flying under the radar a bit. Our DEs aren't seting an edge against the run. Bain helped in that department, but it's not enough. If you want to see an example, watch the last short TD run by Cal in the 3rd Q. Baron gets sealed off by the TE, allowing the tackle to come around and kick out Meesh. The tackle did not double team Baron, then release. Baron got straight up beat by the tight end. If Baron strings out the block and stretches the TE wide or upfield, there's no lane for the RB to hit unless he cuts back. But Baron did not do that and the play resulted in a TD. After a fast start, Baron has been average at best. Here's a clip of the play I mentioned:

1.Back 7 missing easy assignments from miscommuncation or just not knowing what to do.
2.Vanilla coverages that are easy to spot when WRs go in motion
3.Falure to set the edge

Lack of creativeness in cover and blitz packages. At this point they might as well just come out and line up like 92 Bama and put 10-11 within a couple yards of the LOS and bring it 85% of the time. When we’re sending our LBs it’s just shooting a gap and most times they’re getting held up. Last year Kiko got more than 1 sack twisting inside or outside. This year it just seems whatever gap their lined up over they’re coming thru.

Our stunts and twists up front are taking too long to get home. Against a QB that is getting the ball out in 2 seconds (pause) why are we twisting a DT around the entire LOS?

DBs is lack of speed and athleticism. Outside of Frédérique and Porter we look flatfooted against athletic receivers and backs. I asked in another thread is Robby Washington coming along? Even if it’s just to go out and play man against a speed receiver for 10-15 snaps a game for obvious pass plays.

1. Powell reacts late, get blocked backwards and cannot force the runner back inside.
2. Alderman is still running after 25 who never had the ball. he never stopped running.

Daryl porter had been my concern the previous 2 games but he stepped up big time.

Jaden Harris again because it needs to be further reinforced, needs snaps taken away

Definitely getting outsmarted and torched on the pre snap motion and post snap reads. Can’t fix our physical limitations this season, but the MEs are embarrassing.

Secondary tackling and edge setting need to be corrected.

I couldn’t really tell at the game. But what happened with the TE he was guarding who missed a TD catch? I thought Porter had broken up the pass initially. But on the replay on the display board it looked like he was beat and the TE just dropped it.
