no need to criticize the poster because of his age. age has allowed him to see the good and the bad and what he's saying here cannot be said by someone who hasn't lived long enough to notice the difference.

yes he needs paragraphs, but i read what he said and see no lies generally. imo, what he says is on time and on the money, and i am a mario fan and i believe he'll turn it around. but last year was atrociously bad and rightfully has caused some doubt at to mario, regardless of what @Brooklyndee may say. it should not have been THAT bad.

regardless, let's go forward. mario has to his credit addressed the problems, in both staff and roster.

Hey Brooklyndee I could care what you believe or not. Everything I said is a fact and I'm 69 and seen many coaches and football games in my lifetime. That certainly doesn't make me an expert by no means. As a freshmen in college in 1972 I was lucky and able to watch every game the Miami Dolphins won in 1972. They were a very good team but Don Shula made them a great team. They won several games that could have been a loss. His coaching was beyond spectacular in so many ways. The team was disciplined, they played to win, timeouts were used properly, and game time decisions were the correct ones .Butch was not the best day game coach but he resurrected the program and saved it while giving Coker a lay down Championship run. What I do know is that Mario coached the worst season in the history of college football last year For 8 millions dollars we got a coach that made every day game decision go against us, couldn't manage the clock, and showed his players that he doesn't play to win. I have been to 99% of the games since 1983. Last year I left in the second quarter of the FSU game (first time ever) when he took a few minutes to make a decision to either go for it on 4th down with the ball on our 41 or punt. The game was getting out of hand and his decision to punt was a clear sign of a loser that had no faith in his team. Mind you, FSU scored like 90 seconds later after the punt and the rout was on. Those are the FACTS and you can't deny it. This is for DAMIEN and yes he did beat Ohio STATE. He also had a 7-14 record at Oregon as a home favorite during his tenure. My hope is that the Hurricanes get back to their winning ways under MARIO. He is going to have the change his philosophy on coaching in many respects. For you CT Cane 44 I say the following. MARIO was given free reins and tons of money with an 8 million dollar salary and he flopped down right down on his face. With great coaching we should have won at least 8 games last year but there were so many poor coaching decisions and self inflicted wounds. Totally disagree with you 1000000% as far as the schedule. We should beat Texas A&M and NC. THERE ARE MANY CREAM PUFFS ON THE 2023 SCHEDULE. Nine wins is in play to say the least. As far as taking time to win tell that to TCU and about 100 other universities. You my friend are settling for mediocre results and paying a head coach a ton of money! Yeah, I know what I talking about.

Regardless of what I say? If we're sticking to the topic at hand then what I said has zero to do with how last season went at all.

I appreciate the advice, let me tell you how I actually feel. I was just matching the hostile tone of his post with a little sarcasm. If he can’t take that, then he shouldn’t be posting.

There’s a difference between this guy’s seething anger, and valid criticism. I’m not a fan of what happened last year, in fact, if you look through my posts, there are probably several that were critical, including grading Mario with an F for last year. It was on him that he hired that atrocious offensive coordinator.

Again, I appreciate the effort in trying to defend him, but if he would post like a rational person, no matter how critical, I wouldn’t have taken that tiny little jab.

Plus it was just a very mild joke. It’s ageist to think older people can’t take that, my grandmother is 96 years old, sharp as a tack, and doesn’t take **** from anybody and certainly doesn’t need anybody caping for her on a website.

Nothing for the respect for the man
To turn down a 7 figure buy out and just retire to help his alamater save some cash is school love at its peak
He’s first class came through and through in my book
Even though it won’t happen he would absolutely be in my Ring of Honor. That 2017 season was the best memories any Cane fan has had in probably 2 decades. Magical. Fans want to **** on Rosier and that season but I laugh because I instantly know that means they weren’t at the ND game. They just watched it on TV. That night I will never forget. And I been doing this since 82’.

Idk sounded like most of what you said was actually just opinion not fact. It also sounds like you're putting 20 years of mostly sucking on Mario.
Last year was terrible. This program entered a complete rebuild last year though. And not just the roster - the culture, which is harder to change. And usually results in a lot of friction, unfortunately leading to ****** performance - especially combined with the injury bug we hit last year. Look at how most NFL teams perform a rebuild - they break it down, before they build it back up.

Last year being so horrible likely will end up a positive for this program. Maybe if things had gone okay, we wouldn't have made such large coaching changes after just 1 year. Maybe it wouldn't have weeded out enough of the non-cultural fits on the roster... Objectively we are in a far better position than we were at this time last year. And while you say we MUST win 9 games (that's not at all the case), if you remove the Orange+Green glasses, anyone would be 5x more confident in this team than last years team. But again there are still problems that need to be addressed: Future QB, DB coach + CBs, Injuries, overall program image...

The goal this season is to show improvement across the board, and have less mistakes/missteps to correct next offseason. People always want a 1 yr quick fix. 20 years of **** - like You say - isn't getting fixed in 1 year, It could have been covered up better. But that would have been a facade. Last season to this offseason was about burning everything to the ground. This upcoming season is laying the foundation. It's not going to be perfect though - EXPECTING 9/10 wins is a lil much because theres plenty of ways an 8 win season can be viewed as very successful specifically for where we currently are as a program, and our future goals. There will be missteps, and next offseason will be about correcting those - and hopefully there will be far less to correct. Then the following will be the same, but even less... and so on until we're winning another Championship.

Basically, no one wanted last years results. But if this turns out to have just been a 1yr throw away to get everything setup the right way, It shouldn't be viewed so horribly. And most importantly fans should be willing to let it go if this season shows the progression we want...

richt was a good coach but checked out. this was his retirement plan. his last year you can see his health went downhill and he did the right thing for the program and left.

I don't believe that he was checked out, not at the beginning. He seemed reinvigorated when hired, excited to take on the challenge and yes, he realized it would be his last gig. The place where he started and he would've said no to any other offers.

He wouldn't have taken the job if he didn't think he could do it. He's not that type of man. Then life threw him the ultimate curveball and the rest is history. **** of a man.

My response was subtle humor. A jock strap is literally referred to as an athletic supporter. I figured it was too easy of a punch line to pass up.

You did - and did it very well. Gotta be quick around here to grab a punch line.

So we're both humorous - and possibly a bit twisted . . .

Keep your freak on, brother!

Other than a bit of hyperbole and a misstated fact, on the whole, what exactly is everyone's issue with this post?

No Fly Zone that is pretty funny but I look at things from a perspective of reality. I have been a follower of UM and a season ticket holder from 1984. I've probably seen more games in person than many of the people here including 2 National Championship games along with every wide right n left games. This program has basically been stuck in the mud for 20 years. Every year we are teased into believing the Canes are back. For me, last year was the most disappointing season I've ever seen. In order for us to be very competitive Mario is going to have to get a better staff and coach to win. He has to improve immensely as a day game coach. I will watch with optimism but Mario as a head coach does not instill confidence in me like Butch, Jimmy, Dennis, or Howard. You can believe anything you want about me but I'm not in the Twilight Zone.
No disrespect meant towards you but you explaining all of that just proves you didn’t really consider what he meant

Do fans really think at this point that people here DONT need to see it? Everyone feels that way they just talk about things in different ways is all

If by “checked out” I hope he meant that he was probably at the beginning of the hardest battle of his life with a truly heart breaking disease

There’s absolutely nothing about Mark Richt the man that you could ever say he was “checked out” he has way too much pride and dignity for that type of nonsense

I don't think for one second he'd take the job having been diagnosed. He may have felt something different was going on, but a lot of us are guilty of putting off seeking treatment thinking the unknown is going to go away or part of the natural aging process.

Yep I agree with this for sure.

I don't argue that there aren't some signs that should cause some optimism, but given not only the false optimism of previous staffs but also of the current staff going into last season (yes, I know a lot of them are not at Miami any longer) I certainly don't fault anyone for being cautious with their own optimism.
I have zero issues with being cautiously optimistic. I am, too. It’s my nature. But that clown isn’t just saying that. I am not defending year 1 but his expectations are absurd considering all the variables that took place.
