Culture changing

he checked out his second year because of his illness. I think he wanted to prove UGA wrong. he gave us our best year in the last 20. gave us hope. gave us infrastructure. I do think he was burned out but he's deserves respect. Class act.
yes, but checked out means he did it PURPOSEFULLY, which he didn't. he was impaired and walked away as a class act, as you say.

I believe it when I see it. Yes the culture changed last year for the worst because we had Mario ***** the hiring of coaches and of course his amateur day game coaching which was worst than HS. All this recruits signing up are fantastic but if you continue to play to lose like Mario did last year then what good is it. I reserve my judgement and we better win at least 9 games this year. ANYTHING ELSE IS A FAILURE! This guy is making 8 million a year and needs to be held accountable. Too many people here drinking his juices.
You know last year was his first year correct? If he wins 8 games that should be fine. 24 is the year. The smart posters know this. He can’t go 6-6. But this schedule is not easy for a young team. Clemson, Carolina with Maye, A& M and FSU are all tough games. 9 is a lot to ask for. Switch Caleb Williams and TVD and people would have a different opinion. The talent isn’t the issue for me. I worry about the coaching. He absolutely screwed up with his first staff though.

The difference with this tweet from the last 20 years is that this isn't the coaches saying this, this is the RECRUITS saying this. Obviously, many top recruits are buying in as reflected in last year's class and the recent commitments of Lightfoot, Trader and Jones. The key is to continue stacking top classes and delivering results on the field. I understand the frustration...I traveled from Hawaii to see the last game in the Orange Bowl, so I get it. But negativism isn't going to help, so I prefer cautious optimism. Go Canes

I'll keep repeating this until I get a response that warrants me no longer mentioning it. If his coaching is really so bad how did he take an inferior team into Ohio State and come out with a resounding victory ?

The fact that the known bad apples were asked to leave in itself was a culture change. Golden actually did well with the culture but was too stubborn with his schemes.
Golden had one problem that prevented him from being successful. Never hire your bud to be coordinator or even a coach. If you know you'll be unwilling to fire a guy, then don't hire him. No D was literally the most stubborn brain coach I've seen at any level. If your scheme requires perfection from 18-21 year olds you are a fool.

Radar isn't on the sidelines. Clappy isn't on the sidelines. The Penn State tie isn't on the sidelines. Manny isn't on the sidelines.

Addition by subtraction.
Well, if he doesn’t get some results this year, we’ll come up with a goofy nickname for Mario I am sure.

What’s the cliche, any given Sunday?

I’m not saying that win wasn’t impressive. But it was one game. Definitely a statement win for him. But it was one game. And not sure how resounding it was.

Excellent recruiting from the position you start in (5-7 aint pretty) combined with a couple of break through games (think UCLA) and you've have a chance to turn this thing around. Mario first guy to have the resources, the experience (his Alabama stint was a huge developmental step) and the drive to pull this off. If he fails, just shut this baby down.

I will watch with optimism but Mario as a head coach does not instill confidence in me like Butch

I have been a follower of UM and a season ticket holder from 1984. I've probably seen more games in person than many of the people here including 2 National Championship games along with every wide right n left games.
Welp I'm gonna go ahead and call bull****. If what you're saying is true and you've been a fan of ours for so long than you wouldn't have said what you just did. YOUR EXACT COMPLAINT WAS THE EXACT ISSUE EVERYONE HAD WITH BUTCH!!! Same people would swear his game day coaching was horrible and he needed to go. All cause more people who were clueless expected dominance out of us from day 1. If you really are a um fan than you realize Butch and Mario are one in the same. So if you had that confidence in Butch than have that same confidence in Mario and be a fan rather than yet another negative voice trying to tear us down... That's what fans do. They support.

It’s going to take years to erase two decades of irrelevance on the national stage and a broken culture. Last year was hopefully the pain we had to endure in order to see this ship move in the right direction. Mario needs to keep showing progress in the coming years, both on the field and in recruiting.

Especially on the field as we have many commits from other parts of the state and country near other big-time college programs.

I confess that I had heated discussions with Paul D about Butch’s game management. Sure he could evaluate and recruit. But, I think my words were, “We can get any coach in America to come here. Why take a guy who has proven to be a one trick pony?” Paul’s counter was, “We have the best college coach in America.” For years I hated Butch for zero MNCs and then jumping ship days before signing day. I rubbed it in with Paul telling him “I told you he was untrustworthy.” A few years later, a highly placed booster told me that after Butch took the Brown’s job he called recruits and told then to sign with Miami because they would win a MNC and be developed into NFL players. I stopped hating him. I hope Mario proves to be a great Cane coach and not just a great recruiter. I want to see number six* before I run out of time.

So, any given Sunday only applies against him if he loses and is nullified if he beats a superior team ? The point is this narrative of he can't coach is ridiculous and overblown. Nobody moves up the coaching ranks like he did if he was some doofus.

I can point to a lot others outside of MTSU last year. There are about 9 others, from UVA to Duke.

His X and O prowess, or lack thereof, was not highlighted too much when hire here. Here and there maybe. But it was magnified by the product he put out last year. Just as last season drove that narrative, a turnaround this year can get rid of it.

Well at least what you're essentially telling me is your assertion seems to be wholly based on Miami year 1

Hey Brooklyndee I could care what you believe or not. Everything I said is a fact and I'm 69 and seen many coaches and football games in my lifetime. That certainly doesn't make me an expert by no means. As a freshmen in college in 1972 I was lucky and able to watch every game the Miami Dolphins won in 1972. They were a very good team but Don Shula made them a great team. They won several games that could have been a loss. His coaching was beyond spectacular in so many ways. The team was disciplined, they played to win, timeouts were used properly, and game time decisions were the correct ones .Butch was not the best day game coach but he resurrected the program and saved it while giving Coker a lay down Championship run. What I do know is that Mario coached the worst season in the history of college football last year For 8 millions dollars we got a coach that made every day game decision go against us, couldn't manage the clock, and showed his players that he doesn't play to win. I have been to 99% of the games since 1983. Last year I left in the second quarter of the FSU game (first time ever) when he took a few minutes to make a decision to either go for it on 4th down with the ball on our 41 or punt. The game was getting out of hand and his decision to punt was a clear sign of a loser that had no faith in his team. Mind you, FSU scored like 90 seconds later after the punt and the rout was on. Those are the FACTS and you can't deny it. This is for DAMIEN and yes he did beat Ohio STATE. He also had a 7-14 record at Oregon as a home favorite during his tenure. My hope is that the Hurricanes get back to their winning ways under MARIO. He is going to have the change his philosophy on coaching in many respects. For you CT Cane 44 I say the following. MARIO was given free reins and tons of money with an 8 million dollar salary and he flopped down right down on his face. With great coaching we should have won at least 8 games last year but there were so many poor coaching decisions and self inflicted wounds. Totally disagree with you 1000000% as far as the schedule. We should beat Texas A&M and NC. THERE ARE MANY CREAM PUFFS ON THE 2023 SCHEDULE. Nine wins is in play to say the least. As far as taking time to win tell that to TCU and about 100 other universities. You my friend are settling for mediocre results and paying a head coach a ton of money! Yeah, I know what I talking about.

Let’s be real here, he’s supporting the Canes or else he would not have gone to the games or spend his spare time on this forum talking about Miami football lol. Why mafukkas always gotta measure everyone’s fandom? You can be a fan and not blindly support the type of **** show we have shown the past 20 years and not question anything. He’s not tearing Mario down, he’s just speaking his truth.
