CS Ferman News on Kirkland

If we passed on Kirkland for Brooks Im actually ok with that since we need DT to play impact minutes ASAP. If we passed on Kirkland and it cost us Thomas this year and other next year for Brooks it the dumbest sh*t I have ever seen. Thomas is still the key. If we still get him I dont care about Kirkland. I am starting to believe it isa numbers game

I would rather have a "All-in" Brooks (position of need) than a guy that couldnt confirm his commitment to the coaching staff.

at least this is happening to this class, our small class. if this **** happens next year, with the talent in sofla, then that would be an unmitigated disaster.

Can't believe we're going to lose Matthew thomas.

Maybe we already lost Thomas, and that's what made Al less forgiving of Denver's bullshyt games of not wanting to tell Barrow he was committed.

Probably not the case, but just an alternative thought.

Or, perhaps, they talked to Thomas and his family and axed them if we give Denver a deadline to commit because we can't get caught holding our dycks would that turn you off to UM and make you go somewhere else, and Thomas and family said, "No. I'm still coming to UM."

I just seriously doubt that Al flew off the handle here and did this without considering all of the possible repercussions. He's been too smart and calculating so far to think he'd just throw everything away because he got antsy with one guy.

I do think that is actually the case. I think we lost him and said **** it, especially if Ice and crew were telling UM all along that they'd get those kids.

Baby Jesus is the DT commit. A little undersized, but has great potential. Been known as a miracle worker on D. Has a good frame. Will add plenty of good weight. Can turn water into Gatorade. Be happy.

u guys gonna be shi!ing me ? you would be okay with brooks taking kirkland's offer? this gotta be some kinda joke or something.

Heard he had a small frame, but you could crucify him and he'd still show up to play.

The punter was a walk on!
LOL @ the numbers excuse.

If we didn't have numbers, Kirkland would be no where near the first to be cut (unless it was obvious that he didn't have the grades). We just took a commit from a dam punter yesterday! We got random LB visiting this weekend. This sh*t don't add up. Has to be grades.

What guys need to keep in mind is this. Golden thinks sh*t through. They would have thought about how pulling Kirkland's ship would affect Thomas. If they thought it was such a delicate situation, I dont think they would have forced the issue.

I have felt for some time, and I think the signs have been there for a while, that something was up with Thomas. Im feeling more and more that Coley gave Golden a lot of insight into that situation, and that is why we have been talking to some other LBs since then. My guess is Coley probably knew Kirkland and Thomas, or at least THomas was FSU bound, and the staff decided they couldnt keep letting these kids jerk us around anymore on a slim chance that Tim Harris's promises would come through. Not without them at least telling the staff themselves if they were coming. Now, for Thomas, I think they will probably keep a ship open, but we need DL help in a big way, and if Kirkland was playing games, he was the first to get jettisoned, and if they did it, its probably because they feel the odds of Thomas coming were pretty slim.

So Im not looking at this as "we took Brooks and P*ssed away Thomas". If Golden cut Kirkland, they probably knew Thomas was gone anyway.

So Beast said he knows the story and that Kirkland and Thomas are NOt a package deal....and implied Thomas to the U.

I love how the debbie downer of the past few weeks is trying to make people feel better. someone needs to toss C4L some rep/likes.

For the record, there are far too many guys on UM's staff who know what they are doing and have been doing it well for years for this to just be a monumental ****-up on their part. I mean give me a scenario where UM has no other play than to take the PR hit 6 days before signing day and **** off an influential HS coach, that is entirely their fault. They know who Ice is. They know what's at stake with Thomas. They know there are BTW kids they'll want next year, and the next year etc.

i love how u guys are fine with us letting an all american OL leave our backyard and taking on a kid like alex figueroa who didnt even D-1 offer nor played any type of ball last season. its remarkable the googles u guys have.

lets be realistic, we are not in the position right now with the jack** NCAA sh*t to be burning bridges with BTW

it seems like it could be very simple what happened here. We were holding a spot for him, and didn't have great confidence he was coming. Barrow told him if you tell me you are coming your spot is secure, if you don't we have other kids who want to be Canes.

Because golden would just give up and not even try to recruit the best prospect in south Florida with a week left, ok

Yep, they had to have figured the Thomas situation before doing this. My guess is Coley told them the real deal on these kids, and that they couldnt take what Harris was saying as truth. They figured Thomas was probably gone, and so they decided to force Kirkland's hand. When he balked we walked since we need DL more than another OL anyway, and its not going to matter with Thomas anyway.

The situation with Harris somehow has to get somewhat smoothed over, but I wonder if the staff knows that Harris is playing games too and have lost faith in him too, maybe that is why he is so hot.
