Cribby’s recruiting vibe check

New coach bump, Cristobal got a top 10 class. Now he needs to win. He got last year's class despite the staff and despite the season. Texas A&M is the big game this year. They have more talent but also a lot of the same questions Miami has. Win that game and the momentum for the team will be huge.

Win the games you're supposed to win and win the majority of the toss up games: TaMU, UNC, NC State, Pitt, Louisville and we're fine. Only true underdogs vs FSU & Clemson.

This recruiting cycle has been full of disappointments and letdowns yet we still sit at number 16 in the rankings. The analogy I think of is watching your favorite basketball team lay an absolute egg in the first half, a half full of turnovers , defensive lapses and atrocious shooting yet they only sit down four points to start the second quarter. I view that as “ we can’t play any worse yet here we are, down two possessions”. Well here we are , missing on almost every highly rated guy, being laughed at by rival fanbases and plenty of media. **** our own fans and media have been doing the same. I mean I’d be lying if i said I didn’t have doubts creeping in at one point. To the outsiders and insiders we were now brokies that’s destined to finish with a 25th ranked class. I never got to that level though lol.

Thinking of all this I texted a few friends “ It feels like we’ve taken some haymakers and got staggered, a little rattled , but we’re getting our legs back “. Meaning we’ve been hit a few times but have weathered the storm and I expect some bombs to start landing on the opponents going forward. Lightfoot stopped the bleeding and imo JoJo will start some momentum to carry us through July. Adding key players and a possible flip.

There’s a reason I’ve said for a couple months “ let’s talk after July” , that’s because if you’re struggling going into August the forecast is looking dreary for the class. I also know Mario tends to turn things up during this period. Just like last year.

I‘ve never bought into the top five class stuff but I still believe this can be a good class especially with a good finish to the season. A big season could open a few highly rated guys eyes and could give them something to think about late.

We‘ve already landed one power shot this week and I’d expect some more before the week ends. In the words of Rocky “ I didn’t hear no bell“.
See this is why this man is the hype man.

I keep saying have to get to 8 wins. Would that be enough or you all thinking we need 10?

It’s a tough schedule. 8-9 wins keeps the momentum going. Anything less is disaster area for Mario. We have to stay healthy.

It’s not exactly just wins. It’s showing progress. It’s showing competency. It’s not getting blown out. It’s showing that Dawson can be trusted to develop these kids and put them into positions to show their talents.

So if we lose to A&M but it’s 41-40 and we lose on a 64 yard field goal at the gun, it won’t be a mass exodus if we have three hundred yard receivers, TVD throws for 450 yards, etc. Just show a pulse as a team and show you’re moving in the right direction and we’ll be fine.

People have no clue how close Innis was. It took the worst offense I’ve ever seen to f that up. All we had to do was just show a pulse.
Cool. He can transfer here before spring next spring then, after he sees how well we are performing on the field this year

I know everyone keeps saying that in order for this class to continue to improve, and finish in the top ten, we need to have a “successful” season. I’m curious as to what everyone’s definition of a successful season is, because I know where I’m at. To me, the magic number to get the momentum ball rolling, is 9 wins. Let’s say we lose to, say, A&M, Clemson, and FSU but are competitive in all three and then win the rest of our games I think that would be good enough to land a top ten class. Is 7-5 good enough? I just don’t know.

That's how I've been looking at it for years, but they've underperformed for years. Miami should never lose to teams like UNC, Pitt, Louisville. Miami out-recruits them every year, on paper. I'm hoping the culture is changing. Highsmith and Cristobal know what it should look like.

We need to be Ray Leonard vs Thomas Hearns first fight, tough start, big middle rounds and then as Angelo Dundee says, 'you're blowing it son, you're blowing it."

Our staff reaches back and comes through with a dramatic late rd KO

And that means a 9 win season, at the very least....
I knew you would come through with a specific bout to use as an example and the first Leonard Hearns is a great one.

However, at this point booking

Please for the love of god can we score 30ppg this year…

30ppg+ should be 8-4 or 9-3 and get Smith and others….

We deserve this after twenty f^cking years of misery, this season is massive.
Miami scores 30ppg this year, 10+ Ws isn't unrealistic.

What people discount with a Mario style philosophy is the deliberate and methodical nature of it...i.e. fyzical up front bro. It isn't predicated on quick strike.

Miami controls LoS (on O) and scores 30ppg? Probably 3-5 less touches per game for the opposing O gets. That would be a massive and positive change of fortune for our Miami Hurricanes.

It helps that our schedule isn’t a gauntlet

I'd like to find a middle path.

We don't have to go no-huddle and rush to the line. And we shouldn't stand around looking at the sidelines, bleeding every play clock down to 1 second.

I'd love to see a few runs, then a long pass to Colbie (height) or Harrell (speed). Time of possession that isn't 2 minutes or 10 minutes, but maybe around 5 minutes.

Agreed and play to the tempo that makes sense and focus on SCORING. If the run game is working, keep going to it and milk the clock at the same time. If pace is working and has a team off balance, don’t be afraid to score quickly. Be flexible.
