Collier decommits from Illinois

He is a perfect fit for our Cover 2 defense where we ask the corners to get in there and tackle. He is not much of a man to man cover but he fits our system.

I like Collier, but he's a plan B kid. Should've waited for us to offer to de-commit, but its clear he's signaling to our staff that he's immediately on board if he get the call.

Well, Henderson isn't coming back. Bandy was a plan A. We need depth and Collier's good in his own right.

i would offer collier and also tell mayes and henley in off season its best for them to move on. enough deadweight schollys

Unfortunately for us we're not in a position to do that. Remember, we're losing Colbert and Elder as far as our corners go. Next year our corner depth will look like the following (not factoring in any recruits in this class):

Redwine (JR)
Mayes (RsJR)
Henley (JR)
Young (So)

Getting rid of those two leaves us with exactly 2 scholly corners next season. Say we get Bandy and Deejay (who I see going to corner and I think both are as solid commits as you can get), and end up with Collier and Brini; that'd leave us with 6 corners. As we've seen injuries happen and if we dismiss Mayes and Henley, our depth is back to razor thin. If anything the aforementioned players can be contributors on special teams. Besides, I'd like to also start red-shirting some of our corners as well for development.

Im with you on everything but redshirting the incoming frosh. I don't think depth or talent will allow it. One thing we could see is redshirting a few true sophomores from the defensive backfield after the 2018 class arrives. By then we SHOULD be back on track with numbers and talent!

i was glad to see malek young getting 4th quarter burn but he looked lost. i think he'll be fine tho.

We're not getting Plan A kids, but instead of a Golden special, we should prefer taking a plan B kid that will ball out at Louisville or some other school.

Exactly what I said the other day in regards to Collier. Had Golden taken 1 plan B kid a year at CB, we'd have good solid depth. Only one he got was Redwine. Henley wasn't even a plan B type. I'd almost put Mayes in the plan B category, I think he's kinda coming along now with a decent coach.

Those under the radar guys are going to be even more important with the way Rumph is coaching. I have faith in him getting them developed

We also got Jackson at CB.

Man, we're gonna need a grad transfer or two next year.

I am no recruiting guru or even a below average talent evaluator. But i know for **** sure a lot of games have been won with 3 star players.

Even pro scouts are wrong more than right. Draft busts every year. I would take a 3 star with heart over a 4 star primadona. ***** them. I run a big company and i have hired well over 1,000 people in my life. I will always hire attitude over skill

I agree with you as I think all incoming corners this class are going to see the field. I'm just saying though, it'd be nice to get someone of Collier's caliber and actually red-shirt him. It's a shame that Malek Young is being thrown out there right now as he should be in his red-shirt year too.

Yeah forgot about him. But the depth is still bad.

Same goes in the IT field. Companies will take someone who shows aptitude and desire to learn so long as they're a good fit. I've seen some really smart people that don't fit well on a team and they crash and burn.

Nick Roberts might be worth looking into.

If I were him I'd tell the staff to go fly a kite.

His ceiling might not be as high as some of our preferred targets (Davis, Brini, even Henderson) but IMO he will have a more consistent career than any of them. Think he fits our D perfectly.

They've been working Jeff james at CB even though i think he'll grow into a S

Could you imagine having a secondary of Dallas, Bandy, and Roberts? They'd have so much leadership back there playing their asses off. They're all pretty **** talented too. Would be a small secondary but they'd lay the wood like they were headhunters
