Coaches starting to blow the whistle on st.Thomas

I've always said St. Thomas shouldn't be playing against Public schools, and play a schedule like IMG. St. Thomas, for a while, was the only school that could recruit in the whole area, which I'm glad the state decided to let everybody recruit, it's going to even the playing field. Academically, those kids are going to suffer like ****, but athletically, it's going to get very interesting. They sent buses from Palm Beach to Dade to pick up kids. Dam, right they're going to be good as ****! That's why I love when teams like Booker T, Deerfield, or whoever beats them.

And man, I don't want to get into their facilities. If you haven't taken a tour, it's amazing, and it's better than most small colleges.

i don't mind stacking players within your area, however i do disagree with going out of state lines. but there's ways around every rule.

Some schools see the value in having a top notch athletic program. St. Thomas and Heritage are among them. Gibbons is now making a push to improve in football. They are really working on it, in fact. Donnell Bennett is the Head of Football Operations over there and they are making a major push.

Interestingly, a lot of kids are shying away from the competition at STA and going to other schools in a quest for earlier playing time (to build their film). STA's freshman football team had their smallest turnout in a long time this season. A lot of coaches at competing schools are using STA's depth against them in trying to sway kids to go to their school and then telling the kid, that if the kid is really good, STA will recruit them to come in as juniors anyway.

There were coaches from Chaminade-Madonna, Western, Heritage, Archbishop McCarthy and STA at my son's Davie Broncos' practices every week this past season.

STA isnt unbeatable. The problem with alot of these central FLA schools is that they just cant compete with ANY school in SoFla regardless if its STA or not. Most schools in SoFla recruit the best kids to their school while a school like Venice and Apopka do it the old fashion way of using their little league farm systems and dont recruit. They are still in the stone ages. Cant win like that anymore.

Deerfield learned that. They went through a dry spell in football for a few years and then they smartened up. Ely and Dillard will soon follow or get left behind as well and become a team that most kids never knew had a great and storied HS football team at one point years and years ago.

St. Thomas in the past used to get kids from one area, Lauderhill, which was basically taking a few kids from BA and Dillard. Then circa 2003 and later, after STA won a few state titles in the late 90's and the 2000 team that lost in triple OT when they actually won as the kick was wide right in double OT. The 2000 would have been national champs as they were #2 USA Today and De La Salle had their 100 and something game win streak snapped.

Point is, a few years after this run, George Smith started getting transfers from Broward outside of Lauderhill area, namely Tavares Gooden, who we all know here, came from South Broward. Then after him a few kids from Dade and Palm Beach. Fast forward a few years, the you had guys like Reshad Greene come in from GA, Dorsett was a Miramar kid who actually paid his way. I happened pretty much organically through the years. Only lately, have they sold their soul to get kids that I know for a fact would not have played there 15years ago.

To say other teams don't do this is bull. Look at the fall of Northwestern the last 5-6 years, Central was the it school, Booker T always been solid. Down south the Ridge is now prime, where were they the last 10 years? Oh yeah, Billy Rolle is there now. Coaches are the attraction and STA has had the most stability. Central losing a few guys this year, they are gonna be outside looking in again. This is no defense of STA, the system is broken, and many of the Public schools in Dade have kids coming in and out all the time, it is whoever has the boss coach.

Many other states have a multiplier that gets applied to private schools with the understanding that the school is informally recruiting. In IL I think they get bumped up 2 divisions/classes, in a round about way.

Then again FL is unique where kids can transfer to any school they want, public or private, regardless of where they live.

What do you guys think? Me personally I think it's cheating and it's turning HS Football into a business, your starting to see the same thing in little league there's no reason a kid that lives in Miami should be playing for ft lauderdale hurricanes.

why is it such a big deal, kids have been doing this in golf, tennis volleyball and other type of sports for as well as this almost 50 year can remember!!!!

Dorsett was at Chaminade and his dad was an assistant track coach at STA..

From this side of the fence I can tell you that AA parents believe certain private institutions provides their child the benefits they want most for their children, academics excellence, athletics, influential social contacts and a safe environment. The public school ruling was meant to level the field and provide for something that was already happening to a certain extent, that the FHSAA or local athletic associations couldn't afford the personnel and costs necessary to enforce or control. Things change and you have to be able to adapt quickly. It's life man.

Man them Fl schools up north just me mad cause each uear they go undefeated and lose to a south fl team the competition & talent down here just to much.. You put Carol city in st thomas spot & carol city goes to state.. Them teams up north know this **** & just be salty asf

Correct, I was pointing out where he lived. Only included him as he played with Greene. **** that same team, Gio came from Boca. Point I was making. Before that going back to when STA became who they are in the 90's it was kids from the Boyd Anderson area mainly.

Safe environment is one of the reasons the AYFL is so popular in optimist football, so I can see it being a reason why parents want their kids to play at private schools.

Although the best league is fyfl lol had to throw that in there

Exploiting black men? I'm just gonna take it that she was emotional after a loss

Piece of **** coach for Venice ask him his booker t beat them?

Do not let them get under your skin. Some people say all kids of irrelevant and insensitive things when upset. I am multi-racial and have heard it before and will again as many have.

Wait until this summer of 2017 when the new transfer rule/law takes effect and a kid can transfer to most any school so long as they have an opening and are not overcrowded and the kid can transfer anytime during the year and play immediately. STA may be victimized by their own success and good players that transferred there and not getting playing time MAY want out as soon as they feel slighted.

There is definitely a lot of talent in the Flo league, but it isn't as well organized as the AYFL. I hear a lot of complaints about a fluid schedule.

I also hear about bullets flying at some of their parks.

This is already happening. They lose kids every year. South Florida is a tough place and the parents of a lot of the athletes are unrealistic and hard to deal with. It's amazing how many prima donnas there are out there, and it seems to be getting worse by the minute. One of my son's teammates walked off the bench in his recent AYFL Super Bowl because he wasn't getting enough playing time. The kid's father told the kid (11 years old) to tell the coach to go fck himself.

IBIS--Any idea how many times a player can change teams is a school year. If it is multiple times it will be almost chaotic.

Even once and can be able to play immediately groups of players possible instigated by parents could will be moving like swarms

Randolph, I do not know.

My sons are in 8th grade and 6th grade and I've never looked into that.

There are some major malcontents at every park and every sport my sons have played in. There are kids who will undoubtedly transfer three times in high school and test the limits of that rule.
