Coach D; One Players Perspective

Outside pressure and our secondary.

Those are going to be our strengths on D and it might just be enough to get us to the ACCCG.

My kid is at the U. He is a sports fan, journalism type focus and knows a few kids on the team,

He knows a starter on D. He called today and told me this player was very supportive of coach D and reported that was the attitude of the team. Player's opinion, my kid reports, was that plays were well conceived and called but not executed. Full confidence in Coach.

I know this is sketchy without names. I know the "F@ck Manny, Fire Dorito" crowd will hate to hear this.

I also know that's what the kid heard and he is a lot closer to the program than most posters.

Go Canes

ahhhh STFU ****....win lose or go the ***** HOME

These players and coaches (and your son) can go **** their own faces until we stop routinely allowing 500 yards against teams like Pitt and UVA. Only then will they all be crossed off the official list of ****boys.

:ibisroflmao: :ibisroflmao: "and your son"......

We should've never fired Randy then, as there is now no timeline on acquiring "pieces."

Guys like Zook and Dooley just should've told their ADs that they needed their pieces, and uh, they'll get here when they get here.

randy was part of the previous regime.. he was the number 2 in that regime, and the pieces that were "there", especially defensively, he was responsible for. We also had 0 evidence that randy could successfully build a program and get it done.. Neither of those are the case for al golden.

Every last player on this defense was recruited by Al Golden to play football at Miami.

NO EXCUSES

some were recruited some were desperation schollys...

I have stated where I have been to a few practices...the D is still making mistakes which includes Perryman etc...but they are quicker and seem to be playing as a team.

I really feel if Morris was getting the 1st team reps the D would look much better...williams is doing what other teams do to us...short routes using the TE..we all have seen the highlites..TEs are getting big plays.....

But he is getting pressured a lot more than Stephen ever did at practice the last 2 years...two good things from this...our front 7 is improving and Williams will not be surprised in game one that a defense can actually penetrate....Morris always **** the bed when pressured...Williams and Olsen are seeing this daily now...

Guys we can discuss this all day until we kick off against UL...if Dorioto is that bad ( past says yes) he is doing a great job of hiding it...he is very passionate and works hard out there..so at least he is earning some of his pay.....I will wait until spring game to make any predictions on 2014 numbers by this D...as all of us should...

Without a stud RB the Defense gets a little break but we should see some sacks, takeaways and pressure where Williams and Olsen make mistakes...

It's funny though, because when the 2011 class initially signed everyone was praising Golden for the great job he did securing good players in only a couple months.

Eddie Johnson
Kevin Grooms
Gionni Paul
Antonio Kinard
Jalen Grimble
Thomas Finnie
Ricardo Williams

All of these guys were sought after by D1 programs.

Chickillo
Dorsett
Perryman
Pierre
Scott
Dallas
Gadbois

These were all guys that Golden wanted.

The only desperation signings from that year were Ryan Williams, Wells, King, Armbrister, D. Smith.

I'm a big believer that a lack of talent/experience has held us back since 2011. No excuses in 2014.

It was a good class under the circumstance, but we can't/don't know if those guys would have been recruited if Golden had more time.

What was Randy's track record as an HC turning around other programs?

the same as our HC......None of them ever won their conference. Turning around Temple, gtfoh..they went down to the mid majors and still couldnt win that conference, they had more money than any other school in the conference.

These Randy cats crack me up.
:ibisroflmao:

I never knew that Randy took a zero win team that hadn't gone to a bowl game 30 years to 9 wins and a bowl game by his 4th year.
Must have missed when this happened.

It's probable that some of those guys would not have been recruited had he had a full year to recruit, but the problem is that they were recruited and even though they were Plan C options, they were still adequate enough talent that don't appear to have improved under his coaching.

Don't you think the defense might have looked a bit better last year if Eddie had been able to stay out of trouble, Paul had stayed out of trouble, Finnie had stayed out of trouble and Kinard had been able to qualify? Grimble is one of those everyone wanted kids who just busted. Same with Williams and Grooms would have helped on offense, especially when Duke went down. How many of those kids would have been Canes had the staff had a full year or two to evaluate such things as character and honesty?

Don't know and it's impossible to speculate. But that isn't what I was referring to. The situation with the players that left the team for various reasons speaks to the lack of time he had to do background research on the players, not his talent evaluation. My problem is that the players that are here from 2011, their talent is not being developed or maximized. Butch Davis took a two star nobody from St. Rose, Louisiana and developed him into the greatest free safety of all time.

I don't expect Golden to work magic like that, but Armbrister, King, Moore, Ivery, Blue, Holliett, Pierre, and others have shown no measurable improvement since the day they stepped onto campus. Their talent is not elite, but it's better than most teams on our own schedule and the fact that a lot of these guys can't even get on the field does say something about the development of these players. We shouldn't have to resort to just out-talenting opposing offense with our defense to win. It's fair to expect the staff to take lemons and make them into lemonade in a few instances. Other than Perryman, who defensively still on the team can we say that about?

To answer your question, how many of those kids would have been Canes had it been a normal recruiting cycle, I have no idea, but at most I would guess half of them. But the fact of the matter is that they are Canes and I can't honestly say that the coaching staff has improved them, and by extension the entire defensive unit, beyond their talent in the way Butch, Dennis, Jimmy, and Howard would with their players. That speaks to their ability to develop/improve average or pedestrian talent. That's what separates good coaches from coaches and adequate coaches from champions. Talent development by the defensive staff is what my issue is in this particular situation.

I think the next two years answers all the questions. That first hold on class is now our seniors. I think we will actually be better this year but probably have a worse record simply because the schedule is much harder. But I look to the following year with a senior class of kids this staff had time to evaluate and recruit and we should have quality depth at just about every position.

You gotta love internet tough guys that step way over the line in their disagreements because they can hide behind a screen name. Cowards.

Those are going to be our strengths on D and it might just be enough to get us to the ACCCG.

How on earth is pressure going to be a strength if it wasn't even a strength last year? We were woeful at applying pressure.

There's an argument to be had for both sides of that. I think it will really depend on this season though. A regression to 6-6 or 7-5 with ugly losses in the 20 point frame will warrant a firing. However, if the product on the field has shown clear improvement and even if the record is in that area, then MAYBE he earns himself an additional year. Myself and a lot of other people on this board have doubts, and with a lot of reason, as to why we should not expect a dramatic improvement in team product, especially on defense. That being said, I hope there is one and I'll be thrilled if there is.

How old must I become/ how long will I have to wait to being able to watch a UM D-Liner (Golden recruit) causing havoc and fear in an opponents backfield again or at least watching an undisputed consensus Pre-season-All-American? He took Chickillo and made him a JAG unless Chick will explode and blossom his last season.

Nobody made Chickillo a JAG, he was always a JAG but the scheme and coaching hasn't helped.
