Carson Beck

He’s pushed a lot of bs saying they love him and think hes a future starter. Thats been coming out of the Hect for over a year . The staff caused a lot of the hype .
Some folks on this board pitched it as well. Looked like a future star after Ball State. lol.
Lot of opinions on the board. He was equal to or better than Mendoza and Beck was a train wreck. Now what guys?

Because those people believed the nonsense. I was always ok with Emory down the road if he showed something. Maybe a fourth or fifth year guy getting a year to start. But he’s shown nothing at this point to say he’s a guy. He actually looks the exact same as last year. In my mind he was never an option for the foreseeable future. There’s absolutely no chance he’s the guy in 25. That was never a question.

Think he was one of the best options left, not saying much but now we’re getting into worrisome territory lol. You tellin me after having a heisman finalist transfer qb we aren’t #1 on these qbs lists?

Please don’t tell me we passed on guys or didn’t fully pursue because we were cool with emory or a true freshman as a backup plan

While people can point to Mateer, if the staff fully knew Emory not the guy, why aren’t our actions further supporting that?
We should have played Cam the whole game then and used it as a lasting showcase for our portal options.

I suppose all roads lead to a certain player, but if that next player doesn’t enter the portal, then we will have to wait until spring and bring on someone who lost their spring QB battle (we are not going to get a star at that time) and cram everything Cam did last spring to summer. That doesn’t bode well when looking at our OOC games next year.

Why can’t we make things easy on ourselves for once?

We knew this coming in, and not everybody on the board can’t question it either. The big question is does the staff believe it. Have they painted themselves into a no win situation at qb.

youre asking for an injury if you keep cam in there after the first half. he was great yesterday outside of 1 bad throw really. he did more than he needed to win this game (31 points at ******* halftime). the D is so bad that they couldn't hold the lead for ****

They showed exactly what they thought of Emory when he entered the game. If we start spring with Emory as the number one I’ll be shocked and two I’ll think much less of Mario than I have. So i’ll just wait for that before I lose it lol.

So did Miami secretly pursue Mendoza and passed due to money or was it he just wanted to play with his brother?

Are the boosters not willing to spend as much this year due to the result not being what they wanted?

Do they think Nickel can win the job outright like Sam Howell did his freshman year?

Money isn’t the issue , they were willing to pay big for Mateer. The feeling I got in Mendoza they were lukewarm on the thought of him as the guy. Wasn’t sold. They did kick the tires more than the media would have you believe.

Imo Mendoza would be here if Miami wanted him.

I just don’t understand the Emory hate. He just doesn’t have a lot of tape. Not fair to judge him on 2 games freshman year. He’s now had a full year (second in the system) to learn especially under Ward. Was invaluable for Mateer at WSU (Arbuckles words, not mine).

I’m not saying he’s leading us to the promise land, but Miami not making moves tells me they trust Emory. No one here can really evaluate him outside of the staff at this point.

There is probably a few guys they think is worth going after and is better than Emory but not available now. Unfortunately got to be patient here and ride and trust the staff that gave us the number 1 offense this year.

If nothing else, with Herbert and Cam on his resume, Mario knows what a real QB looks like. The issue though, especially with the first thought in mind, he has let the QB room turn into a meltdown now. We have a true freshman at QB and that’s it going into year 4. I’ve seen this story before, the propaganda machine for Luke is about to wake up. At least this time, the new professed hero actually has talent though.

So what is their plan then? Try to lure someone out from a playoff team or hope someone comes available in spring?

It is like they don’t care that Nickel could be starting week 1 against ND unless it’s a clear qb1.

I was going on what I heard that he looked really good in practice, he sucks big time. I would take anybody over him. Sorry guys.
And that's the problem with not using your eyes.

Everyone on the Emory train is going to use this excuse to cover their *** (i was relying on practice reports instead of watching games in which Emory played)

Truth is, his Ball State game was ***. All but 1 throw was a screen. And his arm didn't even look good in it, has no mobility, etc.

Let this be a lesson to yall, dont trust the practice reports. Use your eyes.

I guess the question is....are there any realistic QB options left. Because it feels like we are playing a dangerous game of chicken.
We shall see.

I only know of one option that’s at another school whose team is in the postseason. Other than him I’m clueless. I know there’s no way they’re rolling with what we currently have. No chance.

If anything, he was worse yesterday than what we saw in ‘23. Forget the physical issues, he appeared slow to process and read defense.
Question is where do you find a portal QB worth a **** at this point?
