Carson Beck

Mac Jones won 2 National Championships and was drafted 15th overall, Goff was 1st overall and has excellent Pocket movement imo. Dude is one of the least athletic QBs in the NFL and consistently has one of the lowest sack rates yearly whether he has a good pass blocking oline or not.

I think if Beck was anything close to those two for us it'd be a major win lol. So yes I too expect him to be lesser than both of them.
Yes, what I'm trying to get across, if you don't splice a sentence out of a broader paragraph, is NOT about their results. It's about their style and limitations. That's why I'm saying "those types." I was specifically referencing his inability to extend plays so far.

likley OC/DC.. they just have not made it official.. Im not sure who you think they got. I know that wanted to keep shaw and texas pulled him away to be a back up. South Carolina just beat them for the RB from Utah St.. I see a lot of projects and a terrible HS class coming in.
Kitchen and his son will be the coordinators. Just got a DL from UConn, which ****ed off Mora. Can’t speak to names or caliber of players, but listed as having 13 transfers.

@JayCane20 think we need as many details about his injury and potential recovery timeline as we can get at this point.....
All I know is what @DMoney has said that he got the brace surgery, which was the best case scenario for a quick turnaround.

The Braves surgeon in Texas recommended a full reconstruction (Tommy John). So I’m erring on the side of caution. I’m not a doctor or anything obviously so idk how multiple different opinions can happen and what 1 choice vs the other could mean or if that means it might be more severe than Purdy or if none of it matters.

He told Georgia before Christmas he wasn’t returning to the program. He didnt even let their training staff get info on the opinions and surgery. I think his agent advised him on that secrecy but no idea why.

So we like Mario again?
Like we did three days ago when O’Connor committed?
Trying to keep up.
You’re learning.

We fans like results.

You try to paint that as a bad thing, but it’s a good thing.

So yes: if Mario lands Beck, all is well that ends well. If not, why is he being paid 10 million a year?

I'd expect "more than TVD" as a sum of what we saw TVD's last year here - the good (TAMU, etc.) and the bad. I don't expect Beck to do more than TVD in comparison to that obscene Lashlee run. Maybe something like the 2023 TVD against Louisville and BC? A sort of controlled version? I don't know. We'll see what Beck shows and, who knows, maybe his feet improve.
The most important thing (especially in regards to the TVD Comp) is reducing the Turnover worthy plays. Beck threw way too ******* many picks this year, and that was TVDs achilles heel by the end here. If the interceptions are limited (if he just returns to his performance and safety with the ball to two seasons ago) He'll have a good season for sure.

When I hear the "source/agent" say, "We arent going to make an emotional decision"...thats him saying, "Im trying to convince this idiot to let me do my job and get his head out that blonde chicks puss for one second and let me land him the best possible deal but he wont listen!" LOL. Beck is probably on South beach as we speak. Giving away all leverage. lol.
“Yeah I’m inside her right now she’s saying this is a great deal and we should take it” 🤣

My biggest reason for optimism is the OL and Bobo. I think we are a huge upgrade there and he could return to 2023 form when he was at least worthy of fooling people he could be the #1 pick in a weak class.

His 2024 season would be the second best season by a UM quarterback in at least 20 years.

Remember Can Ward was a walking turnover who was going to fumble away at least three games for us in 2024, right?
If healthy, he’s better than anyone other than Ward.

We were a Semi competent DC away from the CFP. Add Beck + an improved defense (which judging by our secondary additions looks to be the case)

Statistically we are the most talented team Mario has had, ALOT of defensive players were put at a disadvantage this year due to Guidrys scheme & our secondary. It’s hard for me to judge anyone that had to play in that horrendous scheme of his, not to mention idk how many times I watched Harris/Powell/Hill/Mauigoa get absolutely COOKED trying to make an open field tackle but God ****

I’m willing to bet our D makes a 180 this year (specially DL) due to the secondary being overhauled + a more friendly scheme.
We still lost a ton at skill position talent on offense and so much hinges on the DC hire. Can't get too excited just yet.

So 2 years in a row we have PORSTERS stating but he declared for the draft.

Did I use that term "porsters" right there? No, I did not.

I'd simply prefer to have Mario "I didn't hear no bell" Cristobal recruiting for us instead of these soft-shouldered CIS posters who give up every time the chips are down.

And I'm just pointing out those type can absolutely win and be great. Mac Jones is an example of what you can do with that type if you give him proper OLine and Weapons. Goff is an example of when you don't give him an Oline, but still has weapons (and really what the W/L record is if you give him an absolutely **** defense).

The biggest reason we can be successful with Beck is we have consistently had one of the better pass blocking Olines in CFB under Mario...

One of the Florida picks was eerily reminiscent of TVD not being able to see underneath defenders. Had a PTSD moment when that happened

Look if we do get Beck, which currently is absolutely best case scenario

Where are yall ranking him as far as actual QB ability (so not factoring in NIL) among all the actual Portal QBs that have entered thus far. (So no including Robertson/Hoover, Nuss/etc)?

Clearly below Mateer. Maye not as purely talented as like Jackson Arnold. But dude is honestly the clear 2nd best Portal QB thus far if we are being honest.

I didn't want him earlier because of the Injury and the money he'd cost. At this point if the injury checks out and we are sure he's going to be helthy by summer, I don'tthink we even have a hope at a better prospect. And as far as the NIL is concerned it just is what it is. And he's surely just using Texas Tech to raise the price even more. Hopefully its <$4M. I don't think he is the best performance/$ in portal (I'd have Mendoza and Morris above). So like at worst he's probably the 4th best Qb we could have gotten?

If it works out, Its pretty good.

Again I said this weeks ago, but you don't get projected as a top overall pick in the draft as a Senior like he was entering the season if you aren't at least a good college Qb.
He's not clearly below Mateer - WTF is that about?

Mateer is essentially stepping up from G5 so I have my doubts he'll even be average at Oklahoma.

Beck the last two years against SEC was competition was elite in 2023 and had the #8 national QBR ranking in 2024:
