Salute to the OP this is the thread of the year. Only thing I would change is having an open poll.

as much as I want to be wrong, not a cold day's chance in ****

You can remove 'with Al Golden as HC' and I'd still probably answer no.

Or replace 'National' with 'ACC'. Same vote.

I would stand a better chance of winning the lottery, and I don't play.

He's our Ron Zook

That's insulting to Zook, he was better recruiter.

This is interesting -- people really hate on Al Golden, but I think his biggest weakness so far has been recruiting (whether it be the cloud or money or whatever, the point stands).

His biggest weakness has been being a stubborn asshat by employing a scheme that doesn't it fit its personnel.

Rather than adjust, he keeps trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. I'm not sure if the results will change significantly either, particularly in regard to the way we recruit. We primarily recruit SoFla and I'm very skeptical that the players from this region will "fit" in his scheme (at the very least, it probably won't maximize their talents).

This is, of course, on top of other weaknesses, such as lack of in-game adjustments and loyalty to ****** coaches.

It sure as **** doesn't help that he continues to whiff on top recruit after top recruit, but Golden as an actual gameday coach is a bigger concern.

In regards to the highlighted text, why do you believe that players from South Florida are less capable of running this scheme than other regions?

I agree with pretty much everything you said, except to a lesser degree. I think they're all problems. I just think recruiting is the biggest flaw. Bubble passes to Stacy Coley turn into 80 yard TD's. That's the importance of recruiting in regards to covering up average coaching. We'll know for sure this year. Every player that takes the field will have been recruited by Golden. Less than 10 wins or failing to get in the ACCCG is a failure in my eyes.

Question should have been do you think the Hurricanes will ever win another national championship? After what I have seen going on in college football over the last decade, I would lean towards no.

Famously funny posts in this thread. I have bleakvisions of our present prospects of winning an mnc.

What has gone on in college football over the last decade that has hurt our chances besides our own failure of hiring a string of three abysmal coaches?

We are still seated in the most fertile recruiting area in the nation. We will always be a competent head coach away from success unless South Florida kids just stop playing football

1. This scheme is zone based in the secondary. South Florida high school football is almost exclusively bump-and-run man-to-man coverage, especially in the public schools.

2. This scheme is based on power. South Florida high school football is all about speed at literally every position.

3. This scheme is based on size. South Florida high school players are light and shoot gaps, not overpower the gaps.

4. Other than St. Thomas, no other high school in South Florida really runs this scheme. So they have no experience with it in when the get to Miami.

5. This scheme is incredibly NFL level in terms of its complexity. These are going from the most basic, easy scheme in high school to a scheme that professionals struggle to learn.

I'll come forward as a yes vote as it seems nobody else has. Two things to keep in mind: I don't breathe through my mouth, and I'm not on disability. As a fan though I have to believe going into every season that anything is possible, so a throw a bit of blind hope, not faith, towards the team. Everyone with the bleak and condescending "**** no!" posts should maybe chill out a bit, maybe get some hope in their system. You're not a CFB live analyst, you're a fan of Miami, right? Look at notre dame 2 years ago going to the ship--they were not that good, but they put together an undefeated year on luck and scheduling (and a competent defense). Maybe the defense will be competent this year. Remember after UF last year? Maybe it's the year where that's constant. Who knows. But the fun of every off season is the what if's and maybes of this being the year. Or the year after or the year after that. So I'll say yes, Miami will win a natty champ with al golden. Go Canes.

And if I'm wrong nothing lost.
