So I shouldn't have made my HC donation this year because Morris/Hurns are in Jacksonville now?
Mmkay.
I won't say we'll be better--because a BIG piece of this puzzle is how Coach #Dale decides to use (or not use/mis-use) these weapons that are returning. I will say that one of the big reasons why folks are parroting that we'll miss Hurns is while Hurns was good in his own right...he was pretty much Morris' exclusive safety-blanket target. So that probably inflates his worth a little more than what it should be in our eyes.
I will say that I believe that Kaaya eventually wins the job. Probably not on Labor Day, but as the season goes on--I think he becomes "the guy". That will only help as the season goes on, IMO. On Labor Day--I think there are 3 options:
1) Olsen: IF he beats out Heaps and Williams isn't ready.
2) Heaps: IF he beats out Olsen and Williams isn't ready.
3) Williams: IF he's healthy, I think he starts.
As I've said though...all we need is a game manager, and to avoid injuries at the skill spots. Our WR corps is really good and pretty deep now--so many names there that are playmakers (young or experienced either one) that I'm not worried about who's throwing to them as long as they hit the open guy. Our RB's are 3-deep (4 if you count Tucker, which I don't), but having a Duke-esque guy in Yearby to spell Duke, and Edwards hopefully taking that next step as a big change-of-pace back, isn't a bad place to be in. Wish there was more depth there. Our TE's look promising: Walford's a playmaker, just needs to be more consistent. Dobard seems to be coming into his own, and Sandland knows this is his last year to live up to his ranking...the hope is that he does.
Our OL seems to be solid. I have questions about RT with Gadbois there, but we'll see what happens. Isidora, Flowers, McDermott, and Feliciano are 4 solid starters, though--and I think the new guys (Darling/Linder/McDermott) along with a still developing Odogwu will help out for depth.
As always--the truth lies somewhere in the middle between the "mopes" and the "superfans". There are definite concerns on Offense going into Labor Day (and they shouldn't be ignored), but dammit...it's not that hard to get excited about the multitude of playmakers at the skill positions we have both coming back from prior seasons and coming in as Freshmen. If you're not excited about the combinations of WR's alone that we can trot out there on a given down, then you're just bytching to bytch and ignoring what we've got.
