With all due respect to Dawson, if I’m an AD, I’m not hiring a guy because his offense was great with Cam Ward at QB. Cam will make just about any OC with a pulse look good.
This is not a knock on Dawson. Rather it’s a statement about how special Cam is and how he obscures or covers up a lot of shortcomings.

It was a mixed bag and his success was very dependent on who he had at quarterback. His offense at Southern Miss was very good with Nick Mullen’s but got progressively worse once Mullens graduated. He did a good job of making Clayton Tune into a serviceable quarterback and that’s definitely a good star on his resume but he also bombed at Kentucky.

He’s one of the better OCs we’ve had recently but we’ve also had a ton of bad coaches. He’s benefited greatly from walking into a very talented situation at Miami. He has NFL players on the line, at WR at TE at RB and at QB. You’d have to really suck to mess up this situation

Yeah that’s valid. I honestly think he does have good playing calling when we are in the red zone. He was calling heat during that cal game second half.

Dawson even with tvd was above average. Give him a qb that’s smart and he’s the goods imo. People forget how bad that guy was

Eric morris north Texas. Group of 5 coaches don’t usually jump to become power 4 hc’s but **** Jason candle at least entertained the idea at one point

Dawson had to deal with TVD who was a walking turnover.

I'd have loved to see what Dawson could have done D'Eriq King...
 
Not saying Im a huge Dawson guy but Im more nervous to see Mario's replacement. If Dawson leaves Mario needs to make a quick hire to attract the right portal QB. Whether your a Dawson or Guidry guy staff continuity is impornant

Not that you’re wrong of course but he’s done a lot over the last year or two to bust some myths about what people thought he was as a head coach, myself included

It will be interesting to see how his hires go as he has had more time to put his plan in place

Mario has made the conversion from caveman bro ball to modern offenses. I’m not concerned that he’ll go backwards if he needs to hire a new OC. He’s seen what you can do if you actually let your Qb make plays.

Lashlee had TVD with no offensive line or running backs and did alright.

My point being, it’s easy for an OC to succeed when he has great players all over the offense. The best coaches can take mediocre players and maximize them.
