Cam Going to Get Dawson a HC Gig?

If that happens, it would mean he was fired TWICE as an NFL OC, but guarantee there will still be people caping for him bEcAuSe hE waS iN tHe NfL bRo! And he was a “genius” and called plays here as a player 20+ years ago and all that bull**** lol.

Between that and Candle’s name inevitably resurfacing, idk if I’d be able to take it.

To play devil’s advocate, Dorsey was the play caller for the first time last week. Again not the move I’d make. Just throwing that out there.

Lashlee took the SMU job when Manny was still our head coach.

Dawson has one of two options. Strike while the iron is hot. Or bet on himself. Personally I think he’d be wise to take a HC position after this year because he’ll likely never be a hotter commodity. That and I still think he’s a mid OC riding a generational talent to levels he’s never been before.

Honestly, I’d be okay if he left after this year as long as we brought in another Air Raid guy to replace him. He’s got some good play designs and he’s used Cam really well but I still see his struggles when a defense throws him a change up. It bothers me that his solution to TVD’s issues was to just stop throwing it downfield. It also bothered me that his solution to FSU’s defense was to just run the same run play over and over. I have no problem with the whole “take what the defense gives you” philosophy but **** we just threw 90% of the playbook in the garbage after the first quarter.

Personally I think Dawson is okaaaay. He’s never going to have another year statistically like he’s having now and it might be best for him to take a job while someone actually wants him.
These are some of the exact reasons why Dawson should stay and wait for the right job. I don’t look at East Carolina or Southern Mississippi as destinations. Those are dead end programs, and if/when he fails there as a head coach he may not get another opportunity.

I only mention Houston because of his familiarity with the program and its location in Texas. They’re bad right now, but they have a new coach in his first year and can certainly improve. The school and boosters are investing in the program, jumping up to the Big 12 after years of trying. They want to succeed and have had some success in the past with Art Briles, Tom Herman, and other coaches. Not a bad gig for any new head coach.

I agree with your assessment of his FSU game performance. I would’ve liked to have seen adjustments in the passing game to counter what FSU was doing defensively. The “take what the defense gives you” philosophy applies, so we ran all down their throat. You and I and all the other Canes fans were hoping Cam have his usual 350 to 400-yard and 3-4 touchdowns game.

Hard to argue with a win.

The problem with taking a HC job at a place like Rice is that the odds of any notable success are very low even if he does well. That's how a coach disappears from everyone's radar and his odds of moving up to a better HC position goes down as he loses any upward momentum. He'd do better continuing to raise his profile as Coordinator at a high profile school or waiting to go somewhere he has better resources and support like WVU, Coastal Carolina, etc
If those are your only real options then i can see why he would take it, he isn’t gonna have another year where he has the #1 offense in the country

He can go to rice and work his way up unless other jobs are interested

2 out of the last 3 OCs for us have gotten HC jobs if Dawson does leave for Rice or whoever… we will attract good candidates not worried about it other than another annoying long drawn out search by Mario that is debatable in its effectiveness

You have to be a dumbass AD, of which I'm sure there are many, if you're hiring anyone based primarily on results where Cam Ward is extending the plays and pulling the trigger.

See Mike Norvell without Jordan Travis for what can happen when an “elite” offensive mind does not have an elite QB.

For a positive example, look at what Lashlee did with two different QBs. King was a top tier QB but then Lashlee also somehow made TVD look like a good QB. New OC couldn’t do anything with TVD. Tells you that Lashlee has a good offensive mind and can make almost any QB look competent.

I agree that a smart AD would pump the brakes on Dawson and see if he can do it again with a different QB .

Jordan Davis is my early favourite. Absolutely killing at North Texas.

Kept games close vs Tulane and Memphis, both vastly more talented. Intriguing to see how he'll do against Army.

Dorsey had Josh Allen and all his weapons looking ***. Please stop doing this
Bills were ranked 3rd in EPA/Play during Dorseys tenure and 6th after he got fired.

They ranked 4th in 2022 with Dorsey as the playcaller.

That's one fine looking *** right there.

Dawson is one of a few candidates for the Rice job. No guarantee he gets it. Sounds like he threw his name in the ring more than anything

What run? Their offense was worse after he got fired. They didn't win because the offense improved at all, they just won tight games again.

Thats not true, and they won 6 of the last 7 to win the division. Dorsey was bad, they wouldn’t just fire someone mid season who they were setting up to be the oc for years

They won cause the Defense started to play like it should and Brady took the ball out of Allen's hands and starting running a ton. It worked but like Bender says.....the offense didnt improve.
