Cam Going to Get Dawson a HC Gig?

You may only get one chance so I understand why coaches take it. But so many jobs are in bad situations and fans have zero patience. He could be right back as an OC in 4 years.

Mario obviously has us trending hard in the right direction. Not saying he will have his pick of who he wants but I bet the list of guys not interested would be a very very short list; and unlike last year some guys on the fence will likely be leaping over it for the chance to coach the program now.

Seems like there is a consensus or a belief we’re taking another portal qb . Ok .. is there one where we could get and his current OC at the same time ? Kid would know the offense correct ? Just throwing it out there ..

Does Dawson come from. “Tree” where other OC are very similar ? I’m not an x and o guy
 
I’m leaning toward Dawson leaving. If he does, this OC job will be more attractive than it’s ever been, fortunately.

Making chump change out there and isn’t even in a conference. He’s much more likely to excel here and boost himself into an HC job than at Wazzu, respectfully.

If that happens, it would mean he was fired TWICE as an NFL OC, but guarantee there will still be people caping for him bEcAuSe hE waS iN tHe NfL bRo! And he was a “genius” and called plays here as a player 20+ years ago and all that bull**** lol.

Between that and Candle’s name inevitably resurfacing, idk if I’d be able to take it.

I been lookin at the possibilities of OC/QBs.

Arbuckle-Mateer right up there. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Back to the Wazzu well.
 
Dana Holgerson and he’s currently unemployed.
I was just coming to type this name in, same system and most likely verbiage.. Would be able to have continuity and he is available. Still relatively young in early 50s. We could do worse..

Honestly, Dawson is not an elite OC. I understand that ideally you want consistency but their are many OC’s who are better X’s and O’s coaches and can scheme plays better than Dawson. (More creative)

If you have good talent than your offense generally will be productive. Our unit is great mainly because of their experience and age. I would prefer that he stayed but with the talent we are bringing in, I am confident that we can have a productive offense with another signal caller
 
I do think it would be smart to cash in this great year for a HC job. Rice isn’t the greatest option but for someone who has never been a HC its a good place to have low expectations and develop
The problem with taking a HC job at a place like Rice is that the odds of any notable success are very low even if he does well. That's how a coach disappears from everyone's radar and his odds of moving up to a better HC position goes down as he loses any upward momentum. He'd do better continuing to raise his profile as Coordinator at a high profile school or waiting to go somewhere he has better resources and support like WVU, Coastal Carolina, etc

I just feel like James Coley would bring that recruiting element we need
