BLAKE JAMES FIRED

I mean, it SEEMS want to get an experienced one. I dont see Jurich happening, he is 65 and is pretty much retired at this point.

Reynolds mentioned Brian White pretty much right out of the gate. The dude is for real and I would be happy if we got him here.

Again the mechanics don’t work. You don’t have a layer between you and your reason for existence, your money-maker. The football team is what mostly will determine an AD’s success or failure.

And it’s not fear, it’s lack of patience for bureaucracy and time wasting. There can only be one coach, and one athletic director. I don’t know what role of Director football operations would fulfill that those two men wouldn’t fulfill.
I agree, don’t get me wrong. I’ve not been one favoring a ‘Football GM‘ separate from the AD in the organization. The only way it makes even a little sense to me is if the no-football AD is hired from a prominent basketball school, with the resources and directive to build that and other sports. But who would the FB-GM and the Other-AD report to? Frenk? The BOT? Nah.

And who knows, maybe Zo is already advising and consulting.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying in principle but I think he’s involved somehow. Just the whole sidelines thing - I don’t know this for fact, I’m just guessing on a gut instinct - I don’t know the role exactly.

Alonzo has made himself visible and talked to people, advising if you will. That’s not insider knowledge, that’s common knowledge.

I firmly believe his role won’t be permanent if we get the right kind of AD. Sure they may give some lip service to a continued advisory role, but it would be for optics.

It’s also just common sense that a new athletic director would want to run the ship his way, as he should. Without someone like Alonso getting in between him and the coach. End of story.

Just a hunch, but I would think Jurich would not want the final memory of his long career to be getting fired from Louisville (even though he was later cleared of all wrongdoing). He could be interested because he wants to end on a high note. Perfect setup if he has a protégé, he could be AD for 5-6 years then hand the reins over. Pitino is probably in a similar situation, he likely wants one last shot at the big time to rehab his rep and will retire after that.

Maybe, but if I was him after what had happened, I would just enjoy the retirement compensation Louisville paid him and enjoy the rest of the ride.

I’d actually be fine with a new AD letting Manny ride another year if it meant getting a great replacement rather than another rush job. I’m sure that’ll be a popular opinion.
Would rather give Lashlee the keys as interim HC but I doubt he'd accept because he knows we're not hiring another 1st time head coach. Just hope he likes it here because it would be amazing to have him as OC in 2022. We hire a defensive minded HC, he needs to stay, if he somehow wind up with a Kiffin type offensive genius, I doubt he's invited back
