Big Boy Talk on this new group of Hurricanes....

Best post I've read all day. Zero doubt that these guys are going to be busting their asses every day as a Cane to prove the world they were wrong. Feels just like the groups we brought in around 97. I'm ready to roll with these guys back to the top.

Great post - 100% agree about the guys we got. Top to bottom a very solid class, and more importantly one that seems mostly ready to contribute (not nearly as many RS locks as last year).

Burns and Carter both seem to be at a similar stage of development as Deon Bush in terms of talent and readiness to contribute.

Grace, Bond, and Mohammed will be on the field a lot situationally from day 1.

Figueroa and Kamula should be as far along as Terry and the DL class from last year - who contributed despite being developmental prospects.

Meanwhile on offense, an already good unit is adding 3 explosive options for the passing attack and building up some good depth on the OL.

All that said the DT recruiting was a big swing and miss and we're a Duke twisted ankle away from being completely 1 dimensional. Hopefully they can sag an interior lineman who fell through the cracks post signing day. If Collins somehow did a 180 and came back in the fold this class would be a homerun.

Great great original post. I truly believe that athletes today are not what they once were in terms of drive, sacrifice and team. I don't believe kids fight like they used to at least not for the team anywhere near what they used to. I'm stunned at how often I see kids and teams collapse and give up when things don't go their way. Consequently, I've come to believe that even a moderately talented team made up of guys who work hard, have good character and never give up will rocket up the polls because they will beat many (not all, but many) more talented teams. Now, put some talent with that and you got a team that gets close to the top with few teams left to truly compete with. Just an opinion.

Agreed. Let's be honest - most kids that are highly regarded are dominant because of their physical edge over others. Regardless of the physical tools, they do not go on to become truly great if they lack heart and work ethic. This is why many so called superior talents shrink when they get punched in the mouth (see FSU). We need kids that, when they get punched in the mouth, wink like Predator and punch right back.

I think we got a core group of coal-shoveling workers now. The Coral Gables Country Club is further and further in our rearview mirror as time goes on in the Golden era

Im honestly really excited about these kids. I dont see any entitled candy @sses that are just here because its "popular" to be here. These are the kids with the chip on their shoulders who come to work hard, and have that "us against the world' mentality. That is what the U is all about, that is what made this program what it is, what it was, and made us great.

Think about the de-evolution of Hurricane football. Think about the big shouldered gritty warriors who were a little underrated by the services who re-built this place (Reed, Wayne, Moss, Morgan, Dorsey, and the list goes on) with their hard work and determination. Then, think of the entitled bozos who were highly ranked recruits and tried to jump on the machine that those tough guys built and just coast to championships (Ryan Moore, Jolla, Willie, etc.). As much as people want to collect stars, it's absolutely integral to build a TEAM. And a great TEAM isn't always the biggest collection of HS stars.

That is true, but let's not go too far with it. The kids we didn't get, were kids this staff wanted. At positions of need. It doesn't sting less because they had stars. They were presumably recruited because the staff did its work.

I'm not looking for stars as such. But let's get the right kids. Kids the staff wants.

That's fine. I'm going to celebrate the ones we got. Traitor Thomas can choke to death. So can Charlie Pride. And ***** will never amount to anything. I think Jirkland's a stiff too. F#ck em. I would have liked Bostwick and Thomas if he wasn't a ****. But f#ck em.

Can't argue with that. Bostwick and Thomas would be the two I'd like out of that group. The ***** and the ***** we can do without. And the fat **** too.

I wish there was some way to get Golden in touch with The Franchise because it sounded like a couple of times during the day he needed a boost. The 'Chise's resting state is "getting medieval." Dude needs to give the pregame before the Florida game.

Great Post!!

I love Gall's tape. Kid is ****ed off the second he steps between the lines. He treats the guy across from him like a dude that just banged his GF.

That's funny because I was just trying to figure out which current recruit I hope "befriends" Alex Collins long-distance girlfriend. She gonna be lonely. I guess Gall would work. Was sorta thinking Ufomba Kamalu.

#SomebodySquealingWhoPigSouieIntoTheCellPhone

I hope it's the dude with the biggest putz and the most staying power. I'm going with Sonny. Sonny will f#ck a hole in her back.

I'd like it to be Figueroa. That dude looks like he'd Bobby Peru her, then ***** slap Collins if he so much as raised an eyebrow in response.

This new group of Canes reminds me of some old Hurricanes. Guys like Dan Morgan, Nate Webster, and Ed Reed and Santana and Reggie immediately come to mind. Those guys wanted to be Hurricanes, and they were grinders and hard-nosed guys. They came here when it wasn't the popular thing to do.

When those guys came here we were in the midst of dealing with the repercussions of our last struggle with the NCAA. The Orange Bowl was empty. We would go to games where there was literally 3,000 people in the stands no matter what the announced attendance was. But Freckles Davis, who was a monster at evaluating character, found a group of talented guys who, more importantly, were determined guys. They weren't 5 star guys, and they weren't front-runners; they were guys with that inner drive to succeed that is so tough to evaluate. Our program is in similar condition these days. Our stadium is empty. We aren't the "it" program. But Al managed to find a group of guys who are very talented, and who, most importantly, are no-nonsense grinders who want to be here and relish the opportunity to be Canes.

Look at guys like Carter and Burns and Coley. How much twitter ***gotry did they engage in? How much diva **** did they pull? How many times did they commit and de-commit or try to "troll" the coaches and fans?

Think about Alex Gall. Then, think about Martin Bibla, who was a rough and tumble dude from Pennsylvania. Does anyone think that Gall will be anything but a success with his grit and toughness? Come on. This dude's about as close to a guaranteed on the OL as you will find. F#ck the fat 4 star with the puzzy attitude who will cash his chips if things don't go his way. Give me this mean sumbytch any day of the week.

Think about Mr. Stantastic and how badly he wanted to be a Cane. And this dude has skills to go along with it. When the chips are down, these are the guys who will make plays when the divas are quitting because it's too hot or too tough.

Think about Kevin Olsen, who never got shook even when Fisch split. Then, think about Ken Dorsey.

Think about God'sGiftGus, and then harken back to a different era with Steve McGuire or Alonzo Highsmith. Tough dudes with skill.

How about Sonny? You think there's any chance that dude will let himself fail? His mom sleeps in dirt, and his little brother got kidnapped by a 200 pound mosquito last week. This dude is fighting for real life ****, not thinking about some dumb **** he can say on twitter. Big Bryant McKinnie was playing the tuba a couple years before he got here. He wasn't a hugely heralded guy.

I applaud our new group of guys and can't wait to see them develop.

Where's the freakin' like button? Heck, give me an Amen button. Awesome. Exactly what I was feeling today as I was looking over the list and being somewhat glad that certain guys aren't on it.

They had the St.Thomas QB who committed to houston or another school not sure, on the 560 recruiting show. And he said he was the best player he ever played against and was in his face allll game. The OL from STA said he's by far fastest DE and his strength was very surprising. And I'm pretty sure STA had one of the O-lines in the state.

Great post, 'Chise. I'll take this class all day long. Ten bucks says Gall shows up ready to go to work from Cinci in a beat-up F150 with +190k on it that he says "runs awesome".

Where can I buy Coley's "swag" hat?

I half-jokingly kept saying he had too much swag for the Noles. Dudes like that are born to be Canes.

If you find one let me know. How about the emotion that dude showed sitting there? He cares. Now he needs to channel that emotion into a positive approach on the field, and he'll be unstoppable.

I haven't been able to find it online. Tried probably 3-4 canes merch sites and new era's website. Hopefully someone will find it cuz its sick

My brother bought one last year. It is the same hat that D[]_[]KE Johnson wore when he signed. It is a New Era snapback.

I would have got one for myself but we go to all the games together and the hat loses it's SWAG if everyone in your crew is rockin it.

He got his last summer at Champs Sports in Southland (formerly Cutler Ridge) Mall. I bet you can order one from any Champs.

Great original post and follow up by others. I'm excited. Keef Thomas Kirkland can **** themselves. When they see the canes rising past them they will regret their decision.

To my mind its simple. Some coaches are talent collectors and others are team builders.

jimbo is a talent collector, Ron zook was one as well. Collect as many star studed players as you can and hope they cover up your inadequacies.

Golden on the other hand is a team builder as is nick Saban and Chris Petersen. Get the right talented guys and build your team whether they are a five star or a no star.

We are gonna be alright.

After reading this post the only one that really hurts is Matthew Thomas. That dude just seems like such an old school Cane. I have no problem with not getting Keef, let him go clown it up in Tally.

In a small class there is a lot of quality here. Not much "Fat." Im a fan of the guys we got.

He might have been an old school 'Cane...just maybe...

Now he's just Marvin Jones...

and that ************ went 0-3 against the 'Canes.

Time to die.

solid work as usual 'chise

I was going to bold the same part of the OP so might as well respond here.

I honestly think some people are very disapointed we didn't get some of the guys because there wasn't much talk about the ones we got.

***** is the clear example of waht I'm saying. I mean, the guy is a 300 pound fat slob diva son of a ***** constantly yapping and running his mouth about how he's the greatest thing since sliced bread instead of grinding to get better, but we had a thread on here about him every single day. Subconciously, we made him bigger than he really is, hence the sting we feel that he didn't choose us.

Thomas on the other hand, was never the diva that ***** was, but he still was sorta playing games it looks like as he never really had Miami in the picture but left the staff hope they could get him (from what I understand at least). So he drags it into NSD, we talk about him a TON, and we feel like **** when we don't land him.

What if Carter had played those same kinda games? Or Burns? Or Olsen? Or AQM? We would've been talking about them a lot too, would've considered them MONUMENTAL gets on NSD and the loss of the other guys would've felt less painful I believe.

So what do we get? Hard working, straight forward and true Miami Hurricanes.

**** everyone else. We got who really wanted to come on board, and got some real ballers, 11 of 16 of which I highly doubt will be anything less than solid to elite contributors.

/By the way, great post, Chise, +Rep, and definitely deserved.

Can we get Arkansas on the schedule for 2016?
