Big Boy Talk on this new group of Hurricanes....

Franchise has been saying for a while, Ray Lewis III's old man wasnt exactly diesel when he showed up at UM. Hopefully he has his daddy's DNA and turns into a monster in the next couple years

Let's not rewrite history. Ray Lewis was the best college LB I've ever seen from the first day he set foot on the field as a true frosh. And while he was relatively light back then, he brought it and made a big time impact right away. People talk about him being 190 as a HS senior but that was his wrestling weight. I would guess he played around 215 as a frosh. Spence barely got over that through his career, and was one of our best players of the past decade.

What Ray had, he had from the get go. Hopefully III has it too. Time will tell.

I'm not re-writing history. I distinctly remember Ray playing as a true freshman and looking like a stick figure out there. He brought it, but he was absolutely tiny.

Rohan Marley was tiny. Ray was 6'1", 215 or so. Not that tiny. He was just so friggin fast and shed blocks and got to the ball carrier all over the place, over and over, link a wind up toy in a Duracell commercial.

It's a very good class minus the sting of losing the best defensive prospect of the SF in five years, and striking out at DT outside of the Juco kid. The good news is that we have the bodies, it's just out of the guys we have, not only has one not emerged there isn't one guy who screams of being a next level player. We will just continue to test our luck next season, but another Juco is gonna be a must. The two year haul is actually very very good and if coached right, should make us a top 15 team again soon. If we want to get to that next level, we need to do better, but we continue to head in the right direction. Up next, hopefully a 9 win season plus a bowl win.

Robert, we didn't lose Traitor Thomas. His scumbag corches Lice and Beanbag had access to him every day, and we didn't. They poisoned the well beyond repair. No one worked harder recruiting him than we did, but he chose to be a puppet for his ****** corches and be a traitor.

I don't think he was 6'1 as a freshman, and I don't think he was 215 either. But that's OK. Not going to get into a quibble-fest over it and de-rail the point of the thread.

Im honestly really excited about these kids. I dont see any entitled candy @sses that are just here because its "popular" to be here. These are the kids with the chip on their shoulders who come to work hard, and have that "us against the world' mentality. That is what the U is all about, that is what made this program what it is, what it was, and made us great.

Think about the de-evolution of Hurricane football. Think about the big shouldered gritty warriors who were a little underrated by the services who re-built this place (Reed, Wayne, Moss, Morgan, Dorsey, and the list goes on) with their hard work and determination. Then, think of the entitled bozos who were highly ranked recruits and tried to jump on the machine that those tough guys built and just coast to championships (Ryan Moore, Jolla, Willie, etc.). As much as people want to collect stars, it's absolutely integral to build a TEAM. And a great TEAM isn't always the biggest collection of HS stars.

That is true, but let's not go too far with it. The kids we didn't get, were kids this staff wanted. At positions of need. It doesn't sting less because they had stars. They were presumably recruited because the staff did its work.

I'm not looking for stars as such. But let's get the right kids. Kids the staff wants.

That's fine. I'm going to celebrate the ones we got. Traitor Thomas can choke to death. So can Charlie Pride. And ***** will never amount to anything. I think Jirkland's a stiff too. F#ck em. I would have liked Bostwick and Thomas if he wasn't a ****. But f#ck em.

Great great original post. I truly believe that athletes today are not what they once were in terms of drive, sacrifice and team. I don't believe kids fight like they used to at least not for the team anywhere near what they used to. I'm stunned at how often I see kids and teams collapse and give up when things don't go their way. Consequently, I've come to believe that even a moderately talented team made up of guys who work hard, have good character and never give up will rocket up the polls because they will beat many (not all, but many) more talented teams. Now, put some talent with that and you got a team that gets close to the top with few teams left to truly compete with. Just an opinion.

Let's not forget the kid who puts the RACE in GRACE!

Jermaine Grace baby, good kid.

Grace is a champion. I loved him the minute I saw him take on that fat RB in the All Star game. Dude outweighed him by 80 pounds, and Grace didn't shy away. Met him face to face and brought the plastic. He's going to be a great LB for us with his speed and toughness.

Great Post!!

I love Gall's tape. Kid is ****ed off the second he steps between the lines. He treats the guy across from him like a dude that just banged his GF.

That's funny because I was just trying to figure out which current recruit I hope "befriends" Alex Collins long-distance girlfriend. She gonna be lonely. I guess Gall would work. Was sorta thinking Ufomba Kamalu.

There's no question that Saban recruits like an animal. But the biggest key to his success is his ability to get his team to play hard every week when most teams have so many ups and downs in their emotional state. Saban has those guys playing hard almost all the time.

Stacey Coley was the best WR in the state last year and this year.

There is not a better WR prospect in the nation.

I think Jamal Carter is going to be the guy that really turns heads. Vets like Solindger and Bluestein say he was the best player in Dade this year.

The quality of this class is excellent.

I hope it's the dude with the biggest putz and the most staying power. I'm going with Sonny. Sonny will f#ck a hole in her back.

Beason came in under 200 pounds. So did Gooden. Grace will be 230 within 12 months. Has great frame.

Love it Franchise! I literally had to step away from the board for a few hours because all I was reading were cats *****in' about who we DIDN'T get. Not knowing that they ****tin' on the kids we DID get! ***** Kirkland, MT, and especially Bryant! We will see them soon! These kids are gonna come to Greentree with a chip on they shoulder. Can't wait!

After reading this post the only one that really hurts is Matthew Thomas. That dude just seems like such an old school Cane. I have no problem with not getting Keef, let him go clown it up in Tally.

In a small class there is a lot of quality here. Not much "Fat." Im a fan of the guys we got.

nice write up! it was a good read and im really excited about the upcoming season... it should be a great one! Go CANES!

Agreed. That's the example I was thinking of of a program that has the talent, the coaching and the effort - in other words, we'd need to put it all together to challenge them and even then I'm not sure we could without PEDs (Bama RBs got legs as thick as most top programs' DL). But Bama stands alone right now as putting it all together and stands in a very select group just based on consistent drive and effort alone even without factoring in talent and uh ... development.
