CORAL GABLES – The Hurricanes have lost one of the weapons for new quarterback Brad Kaaya.
Senior tight end Beau Sandland asked for permission to transfer, sources told the Post early Tuesday.

Sources said Sandland, who was not at practice Tuesday morning, wanted to attend college and play football in an environment more like his Woodland Hills, Calif. home, which borders the Santa Monica Mountains.
UM did not confirm Sandland was given his release. Coach Al Golden is scheduled to address the media following practice.
Sandland, who battled with sophomore Stan Dobard to be starter Clive Walford’s backup in camp, appeared in all 13 games last year, catching nine passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. He expected to see significant action this fall at tight end, though Dobard overtook him for first-team reps halfway through camp.
Sandland, who is 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, spent two seasons at local junior college Pierce College before transferring. He was rated the top junior college tight end in the nation by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com. Last season, he said came to Miami to follow in the tradition of great Miami tight ends, name-checking Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr. and Jimmy Graham.
He showed promise as a pass-catcher, which had always been his role in the spread offenses he played in growing up (he was a wide receiver in high school, at Simi Valley High). Early in camp, he said he had improved his blocking and mental game.
“I’m more comfortable with the playbooks,” he said. “I haven’t had any mental errors through six practices. I feel really comfortable with that – all our route concepts, all our lightning terms, all our quick game. I feel like I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.”
Though he is a senior, Sandland has not taken a redshirt year. He can do so this season at another FBS program and would then would have another year of eligibility.

Wow, apparently Monday flew by wthout anyone noticing. Also love the suggestion that he wanted something more similiar to his old hometown environment. Do these writers have a clue? No, what he wants is PT.

I had high hopes for him but saw him at practices and wasnt really impressed, im a big dobard fan that kid is the truth, good to see the staff put him ahead of beau, seems like they are in the ***** upper classmen mode recently

Dobard is a more athletic, much more physical version of Sandland and he comes with a nastier attitude. We got him for at least another 2 years, still got Walford, Herndon, O'Donnell, Njoku (moved over last week), and 6'9 Raphael Akpejiori from the basketball team.

I hate to say it but Beau has been a disappointment who will not be hard to replace.

We sure as **** never threw to him-- except Williams. I am looking for bigger year for TE but can't blame the kid. If Williams was the starter he could have expected more looks. Brad lost a nice big target, but TE does need to block too.

never took that next step and got better here. came in with some promise to be the next shockey or JG. never got better and got passed. bittersweet b/c it means we are recruiting better and don't have to rely on mediocre talent and the guys coming now are better than the guys we had to take under sanctions.

Disappointing, I had such high hopes for this guy when he officially signed, good luck to him.

how will he do well wherever he lands? why? he will need to go to FCS or whatever to play and not sit out.
