Basketball school

The game has changed Bro. Unless you're a big that can stretch the floor, then you're a dinosaur. H e l l, Purdue & Indiana had true bigs, and they had early exits from the tourney.

And I don't recall Hamilton developing any bigs, just eyeballin' it, but Ham's teams have always featured forwards that can handle the ball.
Absolutely. But that's what I mean. Even stretch 5s or 4s that you try to turn into 5s he doesn't really do. Unless y'all are saying that's what wardenburg was & then I'd just disagree. It's one thing to ask a 5 to be able to step out etc to distribute whatever. You need (in my eyes) to be able to utilize the key, even if it's just a distraction. It's why Jordan works so well. Can't always just rely on jump shots. But when someone is a difficult match up for him the offense really slows down.

The attention span, and the lack of interest in anything that has to do with history is alarming in today’s youth. However, if I’m the University of Miami, I completely take advantage of this.

You can’t even show a young person a video that’s over 15 seconds long cause they’ll ask you “how long is this video”.

Make the narrative that the University of Miami is open for business, but only for athletic excellence, as well as academic achievement. Jump on the bandwagon and take full advantage of all the media exposure that’s about to occur or is occurring at this moment. Something that wasn’t fully taken advantage of by the coaching staff or the administration when we were ranked in the top five after we beat Notre Dame.

I don’t know about the TV numbers but the baseball classic at Marlins Park was sold out almost every game. Take advantage of the fact that you have an excellent baseball team with a great history. And local fanbase that loves baseball. Let them know that down the block there is a baseball team that is bad ***. And if you need to add seats cause you get flooded with calls for tickets then put them on a waiting list and build it up.

If we were to travel back in time back to 1988, you couldn’t imagine that Miami would have both basketball teams in the Sweet 16.
But you know what you also couldn’t imagine? You couldn’t imagine there would be a time when baseball and football would not compete for national championships for over 2 decades.

Many here really don’t comprehend the level of dominance that the baseball team had because of the football team.

You have to treat each individual sport as a business. And sometimes the lowest selling product becomes your best selling product and vice versa. But you have to open the door for opportunity.
You just explained my entire point better than I did.

We've never played in a final 4, but y'all making "basketball school" threads and crowning us for being "very good"? All UM supporters are excited, but Syracuse, Duke and UNC are perennial NCAA Champs!

Let's get past the sweet 16 and at least make a final 4 before we break our arms patting ourselves on the back.
Syracuse has one title. May want to stop jock riding so much. It’s almost like some of our fans are threatened by the basketball program finding success. Then again we have so called fans that root against the University, depending on sport. The classic Duke Basketball/Miami football fans.

Coach L’s teams are always Guard dominant. That also happens to be how you win in March. But if given an elite 4 or 5, I’d be confident he’d find a way to make that player shine. At the end of the day he’s a good coach, and good coaches will get their best players involved.
The problem is if you have a guy like TJD that is the focus of everything you do, like we just played on Indiana, you can see exactly how a team that focuses on that type of player loses to a team that is more athletic, Guard driven, and focus more on rebounds than “protect the rim”.

Ultimately I’d just listen to Coach Ls recruiting pitch. Let the natural proceeds play out instead of preconceived notions. Probably your nephew will be more convinced he’ll be utilized and developed more by a B10 school or something, but I don’t think that would mean Coach L is incapable of that.

For me I get what you're saying. But an athletic big is a game changer. Especially one that's been developed by olajuwon. Literally Hakeem turns down college and NBA players all day he handpicked Tee to work with him. I think simply because of the coaches that know that the attention that nephew gets is crazy. He speaks with pretty much every coach that's out there. For me I think Texas or Baylor or Arizona or Kansas is probably the best spot for him but he seems like UCLA is probably where he's going to end up which I'm not crazy about that. But is what it is I get it I mean how many children have these kind of peoples in their ears and they get a little bit jaded. My one hope is Juwan can sway him but he went to Michigan when b was playing them with Illinois and it was freezing cold that game I brought him there as on an unofficial and I'm friends with Lamar Woodley so we luckily were able to stay in his box during the game but Jesus Christ it was cold there and being a West Coast kid I'm not sure he's ready for that kind of weather.

I had no idea how little a lot of people in here realize how good the baseball program has been despite the lack of nattys in the past 2 decades.

It’s a **** shame that the school doesn’t promote the program more.

Its what has happened since 2016 that has dampened the enthusiasm for the Baseball team. There have been good teams, but not great teams. Some of it has been coaching and some has been talent.

Yes, but my point was the lack of awareness in general about how dominant the baseball team was.
I don’t know if it was k9cane, John Michaels or Roy Firestone but they said some thing like “what’s more surprising than football is how far the baseball team has fallen. I never would’ve imagined a world where Miami wasn’t relevant in baseball”.

Let’s just be bad *** at everything. No excuse for the university of Miami to be good at just football.
We have the funds and the desire to attract talent at coaching positions and on the field in a lot of sports
We’ve had national champions in other fields as well.

Let’s make it known that we value and promote athletics.

Miami is in the sweet 16!!
Baseball team kicking ***.
We had a women’s national champ in Tennis a few years ago.
We’ve had some Diving champions.
The list goes on.

From MD’s to the BCS let’s be great!!

How you do one thing is how you do everything!!!!

Where football stands in a pecking order and what we’re known for shouldn’t be an argument.

I try to watch as much college sports as I can. And it piissehs me off when I see a major tournament/meet in a sport where we have a team and we’re not represented or perform like cheeks.

I can’t believe I have to post this, but I’m using hyperbole to celebrate our accomplishments in a sport that we have not traditionally succeeded in. Thank you all for pointing out that we are not, in fact, a basketball school.
Reposting this because CIS can’t help themselves

Technically speaking yes. But he didn't have the skillet of a big nor is he. I mean someone who's actually a big and being played as a legit 5. Not just occupying a spot out of necessity. Tee is a legit 5 with a 4s skillet. Can shoot from anywhere on the court & has a dominant 1s vision. He really can be special. To waste him on a team where he's nothing but a complimentary piece would be an abomination. Even with omier you can see how he had to change his game up since he got here. Clearly it's worked for him. He's dominant in what he does. But it's also why we're suspect in the paint consistently. No one defense the rim. Even as athletic as he is if he has to pop out over & over and there's no weak side help we're just gonna be exposed or run into foul trouble quickly.

Coach L is a **** of a coach who gets a ton out of what he has to work with. He's most likely going to be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. He did a great job with Sam and he did a great job with Omier, two guys who are nontraditional bigs. That's good coaching. I completely disagree that he would waste a talented traditional big. He's too smart. In fact, I'd say he would salivate over a guy like that. Size is so important in CBB, which is why the blue bloods throw all the resources they can at getting as many of the few elite bigs that come through each year. It's much easier to find a talented guard so more of them flow down to programs like UM who don't recruit Duke type classes. Or the guys we do get are overrated by the idiot sites.

He should come here and be great. Chart his own path and continue the family tradition.

There is only Miami. You know this.

Agree to an extent that the traditional powers on Tobacco Road are down. But ‘Cuse hasn’t been great for a while.
But more importantly to me is that UM is very good in any era of ACC basketball. Maybe not 15-5 good if Duke and UNC are as good as normal, but this UM team is definitely 3 seed NC2A tourney worthy in any season..

Bottom line we are not subjectively good this year, we are objectively good.
People act like L wasn’t beating good/ elite UNC and Duke teams before this. Then again, a lot of our fans don’t pay attention so they don’t know that L was whipping *** before last year. If Miami hadn’t gotten screwed by the NCAA, odds are L would have kept rolling once Walker/Brown left.

Syracuse is considered one of the most prestigious college basketball programs in the country[3] with 3 overall claimed National Championships and 1 NCAA Tournament championship, as well being a National Runner-up 2 times. The 1917–18 and 1925–26 Syracuse teams were retroactively named the national champion by the Helms Athletic Foundation and the Premo-Porretta Power Poll.[3][4].

I state facts, but dudes "threatened" by reality respond emotionally to those facts; so who rides jocks?

Our basketball programs have never won the NIT--much less an NCAA tournament, but dudes are prematurely creating "basketball school" threads; so who is riding jocks?

The only thing classic here is your projection.

1st off, bruh charge ur phone. Lol.

2nd, it’s no shade at the FB program. We all know Miami is known for FB & Baseball, but the two prestigious programs have been stinking it up for a minute, under achieving. Meanwhile, the b-ball teams have been overachieving & it’s not close. Coach L is a great coach; dude would probably have a couple titles under his name if he had several blue chip players on the roster.

I knew someone was gonna say something about the battery 😂

If we can’t have fun with this and enjoy our run, then we really are just a bunch of miserable *** holes. Back to back elite 8s at the U in hoops?? That’s epic
