Basketball school

Why does it seem like some of our football fans don't enjoy seeing the basketball team have success? I've seen some our idiot fans ***** on Twitter and other platforms when accounts that normally talk football spend time talking about the basketball team.
They are only Miami football fans because they jumped on the bandwagon when we were relevant. They aren’t fans of the university as a whole, like most of us college sports fans.

Well since I had spoke up on this topic I'll put my two cents in. Personally I love seeing any of our sports have some success. I simply take issue when our fans see this success and than start saying things like what's been said as this thread title. We are unequivocally NOT a basketball school. There's nothing wrong with stating that. Regardless of the lack of success for the last twenty sum odd years out of the football program, we will still always be a football school. Seeing people get upset about that or argue the point is nonsense. I'm a fan of basketball opposed to I live football. I get RIGHT NOW basketball is the only successful program we have going. I'm thankful for them. But football is um. That's all.

That is true, but I want to win a basketball title.

We've never played in a final 4, but y'all making "basketball school" threads and crowning us for being "very good"? All UM supporters are excited, but Syracuse, Duke and UNC are perennial NCAA Champs!

Let's get past the sweet 16 and at least make a final 4 before we break our arms patting ourselves on the back.
I was wondering who might be ******** on the board thank you for self identifying

They are upset their Dookies and Heels got bounced.

Didn't know we were counting pre-tournament "championships" from newspapers (Helms), which remain completely unofficial (and nonsensical).

I'll let you all do your own resesrch as to Premo-Porretta.

Syracuse has one national championship.

Edit: (I am not saying Syracuse doesn't have basketball tradition, LOL).

Listen brotha; u know good & well if Miami had some pre-WW II Nat’l Titles, we would be claiming those bihs! Lol.

Listen, I’m not a Cuse fan, but they r widely recognized as a premiere basketball program. However, they’ve slipped quite a bit over the past couple yrs, which is y I applaud Boeheim for retiring. His system is antiquated, & he wasn’t producing the guys like once b4.

Honestly, there’s several programs who r trying to keep up w/ tradition that, if not careful, they’ll end up like Cuse (UNC being another program).

It’ll be interesting to see what caliber of coach they’ll bring in. Chit, since St John’s went all in to bring in Pitino, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cuse went after Miller from Xavier when the tourney’s over.

I’m not sure how as a fan of college sports, you can’t be ecstatic about having success in basketball. The tourney is the greatest sports event in the world. And speaking as someone who lives in a basketball dominated area, the run Coach L has taken this program on is nothing short of a miracle. And IMO a Sweet 16/Elite 8 means more than winning a NY6 bowl. I think most fans who live outside of football dominated Florida, would say the same thing. The attention the tourney gets is second to none.

And I say this as someone who would rather watch a college football game than anything. I’d much rather be winning in football, but having a great basketball program is nothing to turn your nose up at.

These posts are stupid. What baseball and basketball teams did Floridians grow up watching since there were none back in the day?

I grew up in NY.

St John’s is my basketball team. I became a Cane fan in the 80s while spending the summer in Florida. Some of us never grew up in CFB rich areas, or attended UM.

I went to Bronx Community College, NYU, and Columbia. Loved across the street from Fordham University.

Who the f am I supposed to be rooting for?

I’ve been a fan for 35 years! Some posters have whacked out theories on fandom. Not saying you’re one, but I never understood the folks that criticize others for rooting for multiple teams.
I get it. I have degrees from three different ACC schools ( If you count maryland).

But Coach L is such a class act and this program was nothing. It is hard not to be a huge fan.

That'd be a great choice for them, and I agree.

I would claim UCF level basketball titles for this program if I could.

Well to summarize the latest from CIS:

It’s All About the U

Unless, I like another school in basketball…
Unless, I don’t like the head coach…
Unless, the new facilities move the IM fields
Unless, I support FIU more…
Unless, I have to drive too far…
Unless, a new stadium will kill a park I don’t use
Unless, I’m jealous of our NIL king…
Unless, basketball success outshines football success…
Unless, being right is more important…

Stranger than fiction…

Great seasons by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, let’s keep them going!

To answer baseball, my team is the Canes.

But if you're talking MLB, it often depended on spring training and TV. Turner had the Braves on TV, and they had Spring at Municipal Stadium (RIP) in West Palm Beach. Hence, there were lots of Braves fans in the area. I'm sure you have a lot of Sox fans in Ft. Myers for similar reasons (Cards/Mets in PSL, etc).

I was born in 86, so Canes basketball was always a thing during my lifetime. Can't say for sure what I would have done, other than root against UF and FSU all day every day.

Of course you did. That’s literally what my quoted post said.

Also Canes basketball has been around since the 80s and Canes baseball has been successful since the 70s. Not sure what your point is about basketball and baseball.

Yeah; some ppl are Canes football fans & not the entire program fan. ****, I’m pretty sure Ed Reed said he was a UNC b-ball fan!

I know some die hard Bears fans are also die hard LA Laker fans & they’re from Chicago. It’s b/c The Lakers were thee team in the 80’s.

U can’t knock someone who’s a fan of Miami football which put the school on the map, nationally, when historically the b-ball team has been trash, ESPECIALLY if u’re not an alum. I personally only follow The Football & Baseball programs. I have respect for the other programs, sure, & would love for The University to set the standard in both the academic & athletic departments, but I’d be lying if I said I was a fan of the other athletic programs. I just follow Miami Football more religiously than any of my other teams outside of The Bears.
