Basketball school

Duke Basketball Fan here. Three things:

Congrats. Coach L is simply an elite basketball coach IMO.

If the ACC has a great year in the NCAA tournament, lets say Miami, Duke, UVA make it to the elite 8, was it truly a down year? Could happen.

UF won back to back titles, still, nobody considers them a basketball school. Gonna be hard for Miami to transition to a basketball school IMO.

Not a lot of schools i can think of right now off top that do both pretty well. As i type this i think Michigan is probably the closest on terms of some sort of prestige in both sports. I am sure i am missing other programs but thats why this board is great, as some will surely enlighten me.
Ohio State unfortunately.

Agree to an extent that the traditional powers on Tobacco Road are down. But ‘Cuse hasn’t been great for a while.
But more importantly to me is that UM is very good in any era of ACC basketball. Maybe not 15-5 good if Duke and UNC are as good as normal, but this UM team is definitely 3 seed NC2A tourney worthy in any season.

Bottom line we are not subjectively good this year, we are objectively good.

We've never played in a final 4, but y'all making "basketball school" threads and crowning us for being "very good"? All UM supporters are excited, but Syracuse, Duke and UNC are perennial NCAA Champs!

Let's get past the sweet 16 and at least make a final 4 before we break our arms patting ourselves on the back.

You sound upset about good basketball seasons..

Syracuse has won one national championship. One.

They have 3, actually, bro. Lol. They also have six Final 4’s. They rank top 10 in the nation in many composite stats. They’re considered a blue blood in b-ball, but not on the same levels of Duke, UNC, UK, KU, or UCLA. They are more along the lines of Indiana, Arizona, Cincy.

Great post. 100% correct. I'd rate them higher than Cincy, and this is coming from a St. John's fan.

Didn't know we were counting pre-tournament "championships" from newspapers (Helms), which remain completely unofficial (and nonsensical).

I'll let you all do your own resesrch as to Premo-Porretta.

Syracuse has one national championship.

Edit: (I am not saying Syracuse doesn't have basketball tradition, LOL).

Our basketball could be a determining factor that influences the B1G or SEC to offer an invitation. Basketball doesn't generate the same revenue but its a big deal. It gives us a leg up on schools like Pitt who has a middle of the road football program and a middle of the road basketball program. If we're elite at basketball and can get to respectable to over average in football, we'll be in business.

Well, it's a **** of a lot more fun as a fan to be able to be an active Canes fan well after football season and into March with our school participating in March Madness (which happens to be the best, most exciting Tourney of any sport). Following off season football recruiting is NOT as fan friendly or interesting as seeing Coach L and the gang pursing a title a conference or national title.

If we're lucky, the baseball team will make the necessary changes to get us back to Omaha on a consistent basis and keep the fan juices flowing until FB season. I never understood the reason why Cane fandom needed to go dormant after the bowl season. Turrible.
