Barry Jackson on D'Onofrio

I think we'll start seeing that the more players that we get in here that were evaluated and recruited by our staff the better the "scheme" will appear..

Unfortunately, that's not really the metric that will make the biggest difference for us. I think everyone can agree the defense will look better with better players in it. The key is "will they play above or beneath their collective talent level?" That's the heart of the matter. My personal opinion is certain things need to be adjusted for that to occur. Others disagree. We'll see what the coaching staff decides. As I said during the year, I don't doubt they are aware of their options.

even though I know they have 2 more years here, it amazes me that NO'D has no idea the fanbase despises his scheme. Kudos to Barry for providing n awakening for him and Golden.

I don't think it's he has no idea nor is it ignorance. He just doesn't give a **** what you, I, or anyone else outside of the program thinks! He truly thinks he has a recipe that will work. Being a sincere fan, I hope he is right and him and AG have huge success here. I have my reservations on Coach D, but this yr should be the one. We seem to have the personnel and talent to run what he wants to run.

And for that I am glad the alumni has started to turn on him

This is what UM's defense should look like ( not what Al and Donofrio have been force feeding us) Nick Aliotti was at Oregon for 20 years and changed his system to better match the available team talent. Mind you Oregon rarely has a recruiting class ranked in the Top 15 yet year in and year out they have a very good defense, that doesn't **** about the Oregon offenses short time of possession.

That's true, based on history, i'm going to assume they'll be able to get players to play above their collective talent level. They put out a **** good defense with temple talent, and while some people will try to pretend the defense was just good because of the competition they played, smart people know it doesn't work that way, because it's all relative. They had temple talent playing against weak competition, not Bama talent playing against the same type of comp.

Based on history I have serious doubts.

then you might want to figure out how history works.

History tells me that Golden has had two defenses ranked in the top 30 with an average ranking of 68 as either DC or HC.

You mean guys like Dwayne Hoilett, Larry Hope, Nate Dortch, Jake O'Donnell, Jawand Blue, Earl Moore?

I'm still waiting for Golden to develop players that weren't nationally recruited like the guys listed.

Good players are good players. Doesn't matter where they play. Other wise how would Boise st be able to play with Oklahoma or uga?

History showed that at temple, despite having the best collection of talent his last 2 years ( based on nfl, all confernce players etc) temple failed to win the Mac or beat a team in the Mac with a winning record. He obviously had some good players...doesn't matter of the hel it said temple, icon or Boise st. When you have the best players in your league, collectively, you should win your league or Atleast perform accordingly. I don't think they did.

That's not to say Golden didn't do a good job of getting those players. He gets credit for that. The coaching was a big issue at temple.

They had a dam good defense? Based on what? Them just being " temple" and performing the way they did? They had they best team/ players in the league and couldn't beat the better teams in a top heavy league. Looking at numbers is one thing but it's the substance that counts.

I guess my question is what kinda of performance did this defense have vs the better offenses in the league?

And those 2 top 30 defenses left a lot to be desired and were no where near being elite.

Did someone really say we had a top 15 talent defense !!! Send me what your smoking

This is Golden's fourth year at Miami. If he doesn't have top 15 talent on defense at this point then that's his fault.

Starting this year its impossible to grade the man under with one arm tied behind his back this year shows that as the sanctions came down dec/jan and we got a great class

Ohh and btw good to see you came out of the closet and talked instead of just giving bad rep lol glad i could make a man out of you!

I don't know why I even addressed you. You're either 12 or an AD plant.

Look at my post count. I post all the time. I just never address you because your posts are all retarded.

#44 last year in total D (#116 UM smh), #48 in 2012 (#121 UM smdh).

Soldinger has it right:

Former UM assistant coach Don Soldinger said he sees nothing wrong with D’Onofrio’s system. What bothers him is this: “You don’t see guys swarming to the football. Guys are hesitant. Sometimes, they’re not taking the right angles. I question if the effort was there for all 11 guys. Al will fix it; I think the guy is special.”

But Soldinger said “criticism that will come after this year or next will be justified” because these are Golden’s players.
