Barry Jackson in depth about the defense/D'onofrio

Again follow what I said before you get your panties in a bunch.

The scheme itself is completely fine. And it works well when you have a bunch of professionals running it. And with a bunch of 5th year seniors you can even get to the 18th scoring D in the nation.

But Miami has never been a school with a ton of 5th year seniors playing, and while it's nice to have high IQ football kids, the kids that comprise most of our team come from areas notorious for horrendous football coaching.

I have never said Donofrio doesn't know what he's doing. In fact go to CI and look up multiple threads where I essentially taught the scheme to the "No D" whiners.

The issue is the execution of the scheme is not happening and we are losing our speed advantage as a result. Dumb it down and let the athletes play fast. Jimmy Johnson invented this concept. FSU used it to the tune of the number 2 D in football last year. Randy Shannon, may he rot in ****, had a half dozens seasons of elite D behind that philosophy.

Sounds like I got it the first time chief. You want the defense watered down but yet essentially it was watered down last due to young personnel. This is NFL U where recruits come to be groomed for the NFL. I hope Coach D doesn't change a **** thing and runs that monster D he was running at Temple. If it can be ran at Temple and produce 1st round talent then it can sure as **** be ran at Miami with even better results.

I feel he should hit the road, the guy is a scrub and everyone knows it deep in their bones. Another 2 years to prove himself, we have suffered long enough. The offense seems to understand their concepts but the defense just couldn't pick it up after the first 6 games? The players get to college and all of a sudden they forgot how to play football? The coach failed this team and he fans (but 'f' the fans). What will be the excuse this season, McGee left the program?

LOL!

No trolling on the football board.

A top 20 scoring defense is not a monster defense, and no team in the BCS era has won a title without at least a top 10 D.

Secondly, we are NFLU bc we consistently have the best athletes. And when a player is elite, he often leaves after 3 years, thus there are always going to be young guys rotating in to a complex defense that is designed to NOT have young kids playing.

It's completely counter to decades worth of proven concepts that lead to elite Hurricanes defense.

The gist of your point is correct, but there has been a couple BCS NC teams that did not finish in the top 10 in scoring defense: 2007 LSU and 2010 Auburn.

Good stuff.

Some have already written him off, some have been willing to cut him some slack.

Maybe naive but I've been in the "if Golden believes in him I will stick it out" crowd.

That said, no excuses this year.

Sadly, the reality is that there were Shanntard apologists who wrote Corch D off halfway through his first game against Maryland. And those loud, retarded grunting voices swayed a lot of weak followers to join the cacophony of idiocy. They wanted so badly to cling to Shanntard as a defensive genius, who didn't get a fair shot because of the racist white fans, that Corch D was their scapegoat no matter what.

I don't care that people wrote the guy off, that is their right. I just don't get (because there are a bunch) the group that wrote him off after the Maryland game. How many suspensions? How many days before the game were they announced? One game is an incredibly small sample and more of an outlier when compared to the rest of the 2011 season.

I actually am in the I DON'T KNOW what Coach D can do and I see it both ways. I am not going to bang my head in either direction.

Our speed advantage?

Are you contending that we had a faster than average defense last year?

and I mean average as it relates to CFB.

Dorito sucks balls... this is college not the NFL... Golden and Dorito are going the wrong route I'm telling you... niggaz like charlie strong know what to do with south florida talent... **** ive been preaching this **** for the last few years...

I guarantee Nick Saban doesn't water down his defenses... and he's turned bama into a defensive machine... (no not saying D'Onof is saban).. the point is, you run your system, you recruit for it and you give it time to sink in.... top 20 d's might not be something to write home about, but a top 20 D at temple, is. Inevitably someone is going to say "look at their competition" while somehow completely disregarding that they were playing with temple "talent" ..

One thing i know is that we definitely need to get to the QB more.. less than a sack a game is unacceptable.

I just want to see some improvement. I dont expect a top 20 defense this year.

This is it. The rankings mean nothing. This will still be a relatively young defense lacking depth. It'll have more experience and better depth than last year, and I think expecting improvement is fair. So many posts in this thread mention that so much depends on Porter's health, and that's true, but it illustrates how this defense is still not deep or talented enough. Coach D knows what he's doing. Golden knows what he's doing. I believe that they'll get the defense turned around sooner rather than later, but it's not likely to happen this season in terms of being dominant. If it does happen, crown them both.

dorito had the best talent in his division...

We need to stay healthier on defense and just show improvement.

Must replace McGee, GP, EJ (I am assuming he won't be available given his history).

I'd like to see Tracy Howard become the man, he was my fav recruit along with RJ.

Coach D gets his fair share of the blame for a historically awful defense but it's a new year and I'm confident he'll develop his unit.

That **** we saw last year had nothing to do with a watered down scheme and everything to do with watered down talent and no experience. When guys like Shayon Green and Darius **** and Corey King and all those freshmans are logging big minutes on the DL you are COOKED no matter what kind of scheme you are running. It all starts up front, and our best DT on a razor thin and inexperienced DL was missing for about 9 games.

At LB, we had a ton of youth, and our best LB Perryman played the majority of the season on one leg. EJ, when not suspended was awesome, but he picked some bad times to be a knucklehead and miss huge games. The back line? Pfffffttt. When the 3 pylons (Karate Kid Telemaque, Rodeo Rodgers and Highsmith) are logging the majority of the reps for most of the season, you won't be able to cover your own shoes back there due to the lack of athleticism in 2 of the guys and lack of football skill in the other. Gionni Paul did an OK job filling in at LB, but he's 3 feet 4 inches tall (you saw how that worked on the TD pass to beat us at UVA), and he had cement ankles (remember all the plays in the ND game where he stood there like a fire hydrant as RBs and Golson walked right around him).

When the young pups get their sea legs all of a sudden Corch D will recover from the apparent blunt force trauma he took to the head last year that made him retarded for a year. LULZ at the dudes who think corches catch situational sudden retardation. Guys who have garnered quality results very recently don't suddenly get stupid.

We need 4-5 "pleasent surprises" in D personnel next year for this to be a top 50 defense. Good news is there is going to be alot of opportunity for kids to earn playing time next year.

One plus I see with guys like McCord, Terry, Muhammed, and Bond is we should be able to get off the field in third and long situations. One thing that killed this defense is the amount of third down conversions we surrendered last year.

My biggest concern is stopping the run. I don't see that run stuffer physical presence on this team at DT. Without that, any D is vulnerable.

lol @ the living room coaches...just wait and see what our D is like this year w more experience and hopefully a healthy DL (also stronger and bigger DL after a full season and offseason on campus).
