2024 Aydin Breland 4* DT from Mater Dei

Every year its Mario needs to hit the portal for DT.

So what? It's a reality, and a ton of schools need to do the same.

Until we get a few homegrown DTs, this is going to be a battle. We know we can find WRs and CBs in Florida, but it's **** hard to get two DTs every year from out-of-state when they are probably the rarest commodity on the market.

Another idea, bring in someone that can recruit DT. The portal is not going to be easier than recruiting its the same **** show. All of you pretending like that is the answer are ignoring the fact that you still recruit in the portal.

The question that remains unanswered is why is UM having such a hard time getting national DT recruits. It happened in 2023 too, and we can't blame record then.

In my professional job, one of the things I do is root cause analysis. If someone gets hurt at the workplace, we can't just say, "oh well, accidents happen." There is always an underlying reason or reasons, even if it as simple as HR didn't do a good job vetting new hires and needs to have a way of identifying prospective employees who are likely to be inattentive.

You can't hand wave the poor national recruiting at DT and say its just because a lot of schools are after their services. If that was the case, we'd be striking out on national recruits at every other position, which isn't the case. It's not NIL, because we've heard that we areoffering more than other programs.

So is there a common thread? With LB recruiting during the Diaz tenure, it was obvious top LB recruits didn't think they would get developed and they didn't like the defense. During Cristobals entire tenure at Oregon, he never had a even one DT drafted. This past draft Oregon finally had a DT drafted that Cristobal recruited, and he went in the 7th round.

So is that the problem? Are national DT recruits looking at Cristobal (or Joe's) track record and seeing that it's not going to help them get drafted? It could be they don't like how the defensive scheme uses DTs. I don't know the answer, but we need to figure it out. It's great we got one elite kid who happens to be local to give his verbal for 2025, but one in 3 years isn't going to cut it.
Simply put right after QB and CB, DT's are the highest paid (both under/over) and sought after position. We have not put a DT in the 1st or 2nd rd in years, and we are not paying enough to overcome poor on field performance, let alone recent **** poor player development. You mentionEd your in corporate America, so let's say your a newly minted MBA grad from a Top 20 bschool and you an offer from your home town Healthcare startup of $80k base + 20% cash bonus+20% options+40%LTIP (3yrs) or PWC offers $140k +20% bonus on 2-3 yr associates contract. Who do you go with, (Miami is the startup in this case and UGA/OSU/Oregon are PWC)

Go Canes

we are not paying enough to overcome poor on field performance

So we're talking the "Suck Tax" again. My understanding (from what some were saying here) is that we were offering some DTs way more NIL than any other school. In your corporate example, I think it would be the other way around, the hometown startup (us) would be offering $140k, PWC would be $80k.

If lanning is winning with Mario’s roster
Then Mario is winning with manny’s roster
A lot of the core guys including qb are manny guys
Oregon has also had a pretty decent amount of roster turnover
Even fsu best rb is Oregon transfer
Lanning is good coach
And learned the bag game at bama and uga
And currently has the baddest bagman of them all
So it’s no shame if he wins a recruiting battle
the odd one is losing to lane
Esp after all the extra “trips” he took here
I think for dts it’s just gonna take us winning and taylord showing out some more
des recently had a couple first round and a couple solid picks in the draft
But dt hasn’t had anything since really Rj since then we had ford and I can’t think of anyone else
Lanning was suppose to probably be coaching the defense but Oregon jumped in. So far he looks like he’s legit he learned the recruiting game. DT position has been cheeks but I can see the plan. They need to flip and I’m sure Mario will I don’t doubt it.

I told you guys this last year, but Lanning walked into the best — by a mile — NIL infrastructure in the country. Not saying he isn’t a great recruiter, but Knight didn’t **** around. The organization is impressive.

As it should have been. I would hope that the program funded by Nike would have a top tier NIL program.

Yea that was definitely the best job to start running. You didn’t have to build a thing just maintain it.

Gaby's has a new recruiting hot-take article and predicts we land one of LJ McCray or Aydin Breland.

This.

We will need to nationally hunt for the elite DTs every single year since they don’t grow on trees in S. Florida.

It is what it is.

People on this board said a big reason Cristobal was able to land the #7 class last year was because UM had one of the best NIL infrastructure setups in the country and we were ahead of the game. The explanation for the relatively weak start to recruiting was because other schools finally "caught up" on NIL infrastructure (especially FSU) so we didn't have that edge on other schools anymore.

Oregon jumped that far ahead of UM on NIL infrastructure in one year?

Everyone keeps saying that these schools caught up without saying anything specific about what they are actually doing.
The only thing they figured out was that the ncaaa ain’t policing a cot damm thing.

The only thing schools figured out was that the ncaa gives 0.00 fcks about paying players illegally.
Ruiz called them out on their Bull sht and instead of them realizing these schools are not nil but pay for play fund raising, they hit us with a violation.

Oregon has always been ahead of Miami. Knight wants to win a ‘ship before he dies. He took some real talent from Nike corporate and moved them to Division Street. I told the board this last year. I deal with them a lot. Among the collectives I interface with, Division Street is the most organized and by-the-book. No gift cards for unofficials or payments to kids why they are in high school (like we did with Rashada). You get paid after you sign and show up on campus — that’s what ****ed off ****ey last year and had his agent shopping him. Their marketing plan and presentation to the kids is impressive; they pay top dollar; and, they are very engaged and honest with the kids’ reps.
