2024 Aydin Breland 4* DT from Mater Dei

I agree that striking out on so many bigtime DTs and a few bigtime DEs is super frustrating. Yes it’s a failure. More so after being told by D$ and Cribby and a ton of other insiders and social media guys that we were going to bring in a DL haul similar to the OL haul we got last year. So our expectations were sky high.

That said, we have Jones, Burroughs and Lightfoot so far and are relentlessly going after flips, senior evals, Juco kids and the I’m sure the portal. We literally have 4 more cracks at the bat to land more talent. The world isn’t ending today or the day Breland announces. Let’s not blow this out of all proportion peoples.

Thanks for posting this. Some of the babies on this message board are ridiculous. We went after kids that we really didnt have a shot at, not because we are inferior but because most of them are choosing to stay close to home or heaven forbid go to UGA. What a silly choice that is. Most on here have never coached anything at a serious level, but have all the answers on who to play, who to recruit, what plays to run, how we should recruit, etc. I understand that is the point of fans message board but it's ridiculous to want to hang Joe for "missing out" on kids that we went after. It might take time and years of relationship building to get those types of kids and some of it would be helpful if they were down in SF also.
Mario and JT are not involved in these recruitments as well? They only get credit when we get a kid, but Joe takes the hit for a kid we don't get? That makes sense.
I don't know if Joe is the problem or not but when Miami first hired Mario, Manny Navarro did an interview with the Oregon beat writer and for the most part he had only positive things to say about Mario, but he spent a good amount of the interview questioning Joe's value... both as a recruiter and on field coach.

I had no exposure to Joe (good or bad) yet, but found that portion of the interview stuck with me as it was really odd how much the reporter seemed to be going out of his was to dog Joe and backing it up with stats showing they did not recruit well there and underperformed even for the level they recruited despite being positive about mostly everything else. And his comments didn't seem mean spirited, but more that he was miffed as to why Mario kept him around as well. I mostly brushed it off thinking 'why would Mario bring him along if he is a bad coach?' but with how DT recruiting has gone since he has been here... I don't know if it is Joe, but something is off.

Nah I give Mario the credit all the time and the blame. Position coaches will change and we will still eat cause of Mario

not sure why all the negativity before he even commits with no actual news coming out

if we miss him then yeah, major whiff on DT recruiting this year

but those saying broadly DL recruiting has been bad are just wrong. We likely land Pickett, and when we do we'll end up with #5, #14, and #21 true edge in 247 composite - the best edge class in the country

I mean it's disappointing AF...but what do you do?

We've thrown NIL money...we have playing time galore to give...what more can you do?

I swore we had Scott and that ended up a no because of distance
Franklin loved Jason Taylor but grandma wanted him home
Stone loved Mario but decided to go back home to Oklahoma
Simmons gave us a listen but decided to stay in state at Texas
4 top end defensive players at a premium position of need did what we expect our kids to do...STAY HOME IN STATE🤷🏾‍♂️
I'm just asking bawse...what more do you do?

The standard is to close. It was never ok to just try or ask what more can you do for previous staffs…so not sure we tried is going to be accepted from a staff that is suppose to be elite recruiters

How was Joe's recruiting DL"s at Oregon? Just curious

Cristobal has been a HC for 12 years (math might be off by one). Surprised to learn that in his entire tenure he's only had one DT that he recruited or that played for him get drafted (out of Oregon, 7th rounder last year). He's had solid defenses so tough to figure out. By comparison, Diaz had 3 DTs drafted that he recruited or played the majority of their career under him (McIntosh, Norton, Ford). And LT is going to get drafted too, so that would make 4.

I think LT would have played more years under Cristobal than Diaz but if you're adding more emphasis to Manny as LT's original recruiter than I understand that perspective

The real question is, will you let NY state of mind lick it off of you? How bad do you want this guy to be a Cane??
