2024 Aydin Breland 4* DT from Mater Dei

The last page of this thread is pathetic.

Some are acting like we are losing homegrown DTs left and right. We are losing out of state national DTs. Who tend to come from smaller towns/ cities and who typically favor small college town vibes, plus the money offered is equal and the other schools have a more recent track record of winning.

Yes Mario is a great recruiter, no it doesn’t mean that he’ll never lose kids.

We don’t get to skip the part where the team grinds its way to being a trusted brand where kids will experience success and get developed.

Not even super crazy about this kid, just expand the DT board if we haven’t already.

We swung for the top guys and missed, but some of the top NTs are not highly rated so we can still find a quality starter if we want

Certain respected DL coaches at big schools agree with you, from what I heard. That said, beggars can’t be choosers and I wish we could land the kid.

This.

We will need to nationally hunt for the elite DTs every single year since they don’t grow on trees in S. Florida.

It is what it is.
Yup OL and DL national that’s what the elite programs do. Sometimes they in your backyard but you have to go after the high rated ones. I don’t give a fun if he’s from north sentinel island and isn’t a friendly human being. If he can play at an elite level suit his *** up and take those primitive garments off him. Pause

Transfer portal elite dts are going to want to play here. All we gotta do is stay the course be competitive and every position is developing with what we have. I’m sure there is going to be a Cohen at dt and we probably already know who. They move in silence though so I’m sure they are ten steps ahead. The backup plans have been hitting at a good rate better than previous staffs.

This is a hope and dream not a certainty. We've gone after elites and ended up with better than expected. I guess I'm missing where all this confidence is coming from. Signing 3-4 portal DT every year would be ok if we start getting the upper echelon. Especially when we are going to lose the guy thats been our best DT the last 2 years.

Yea I feel you. I could be dead wrong. I’m just hopeful because I know we have a real cfb HC that knows this game. That’s where my confidence is at. I think he’s a top 5 recruiter with this brand specifically backing him. But again I could be wrong and we whiff.

Yep… we get another Burroughs and all is **** near forgiven.

Clearly not the most idea recruitment strategy but it eases the whiff

Yea for sure but i just dont like this process( i dont know it all tho), yea swing for the too prospects but also expand your board.. especially for interior dline man, take the guys with a good foundation u can maximize like we did with horton and moten

Portal gon be there but that cant be the long term plan

Really with alot of this dline class we’re targeting, im like eh he’s good but not all that.

Besides stewart and stone I haven’t been like **** we missed on a special talent.

Georgia hoards DT’s. Also elite DT are rare and extremely hard to land especially when they aren’t in your backyard. Mario is doing his best. The board is let down cause of social media hype that Mario was going to land the best DL class ever. Y’all set yourselves up on that one.

Mario knows what he needs and will do his best to get the talent in the door. The portal was/is the play at DT all along.

Oregon has always been ahead of Miami. Knight wants to win a ‘ship before he dies. He took some real talent from Nike corporate and moved them to Division Street. I told the board this last year. I deal with them a lot. Among the collectives I interface with, Division Street is the most organized and by-the-book. No gift cards for unofficials or payments to kids why they are in high school (like we did with Rashada). You get paid after you sign and show up on campus — that’s what ****ed off ****ey last year and had his agent shopping him. Their marketing plan and presentation to the kids is impressive; they pay top dollar; and, they are very engaged and honest with the kids’ reps.
Except in NC's and NFL Players. 🤷‍♂️

Wait did you just say you're not crazy about Breland? You need to go watch his film. He may be the best of all the DT's he's that good.

It appears this staff is only interested in recruiting elite prospects on OL/DL at the HS level. No settling… the back up plan is proven players through the portal or JUCO. As stated before, this is an idea landing spot for a 20-22 year old who has settled any emotions on being away from home and wants a fresh start.

No more borderline 3 stars in the trenches for us.

The #1 brand in sports gives Oregon a huge boost in the era of NIL. I never thought the Ducks would have long-term staying power in the era of the bag. But Nike has been evaluating and sponsoring talent at the HS level for decades. What kid wouldn't want to sign for them? We need to accept that Oregon is for real for a very long time to come.

Even more reason we should be grateful for Mario. He's not dumb. He left a Top 10 team with an outlook to being a perennial Top 5 team for Miami. There are only three reasons he did that -- love of Miami, love for the U, certainty he could rebuild the program.

He may be, i didn’t say he wasn’t good. Also id take stone over him.

And him being the best dt in this class isn’t saying much imo, im not high on much of this class besides a few
