Article: NCAA Charges Miami With Lack of Institutional Control

View as article
This is the clearest sign yet that the NCAA has no intention of letting UM skate.

I dont think it has anything to do with skating or not. Right now the ncaa is trying to get the mud off so they leak these numbers to sway public opinion. In the end there will be a deal cause it benefits both parties. But in the meantime there is a war for public opinion and this is the ncaas attempt at getting the public on their side and against miami.

Funny that they don't realize that the public backlash against them really has nothing to do with what UM did, or did not do. The backlash is all about the way they have handled things.

So they wanted a one way gag order ? Geez how long is this going to milk out, if they had credible evidence I think this would have been over a long time ago. They're full of s**t period, enough already !!

Agreed. They have gone bush league with this from the very start - constant leaks to the press based on baseless accusations and rank speculations. I think its too late for the NCAA though. They blew their case by trying to make a "death sentence" hypocritical-homerun statement against us to the college football world rather than earnestly pursue this with tack and professionalism. And they can be mad with Shalala all that want to. In the end, she has the weight of their inept handling of the investigation on her side. I also think that she will sue the NCAA if their COI comes back with an unreasonable ruling and that through discovery our suit will demand full disclosure from the NCAA. Because they have messed themselves I think we'll get that which will probably be even more damning to their case and to their credibility. I wouldn't cave the least if I were President Shalala; as an institution we've been even more cooperative than would be expected of a "reasonable" person or institution.

NCAA trying to sway public opinion back on their side by leaking the dollar amount, which makes the "violations" seem worse. They're ****ed that Shalala blasted them.

It's awesome how the NCAA (and then articles discussing the allegations) use the "72 student-athletes" number for those allegedly involved. It makes it sound like it was a much more pervasive problem with lots of money being thrown at lots of guys, when in reality, as all those people that broke down the Yahoo report noted, probably 50 of those "involved" received free admission to a club or a ride somehwere or something completely inconsequential. Many others received benefits worth a couple hundred dollars. Wilfork and Rolle allegedly received the most, but how are those allegations being corroborated?

Ultimately, even if Shapiro gave $56k in benefits to players over the course of 10 years, that's less than what Shapiro's idiot lawyer billed the NCAA for her assistance, and is certainly much less than what Cadwalader billed the NCAA for their "external review." So, the NCAA incurred several hundred thousands of dollars (if not more) to conduct their 2.5 year investigation, probably cost the university that much, if not more, all for a total of $170k?

The NCAA's message is clear: Do it the Auburn way - if you're going to have boosters give money, make sure they give it in one lump sum to the player's parent, and then have the player deny knowledge of any wrongdoing. No LOIC there.

At this point, the NCAA is in bed with Shapiro just as deep as Miami was. Just like Miami and the people that Nevin stole that $930 million from, the NCAA is falling in deep with a crook..

Question:

So they're alleging that all this took place from 2002-2010. Do we know if they are charging us as a repeat offender? Would that have been included in the NOA, or would that be something for the COI to determine at the hearing in June?

LOTS of You got to be ****tin me in this...

1. 170K total - so the Rat AND Robinson lied about the figures being in the millions
2. $90k to Wilfork and Rolle ... LOL prove it. and didn't Vince declare and Rolle was a senior
3. $56K on 87 people ... over 8 Years... not a huge some - but probably where the LOIC is based on
4. ALL These Figure are Approx!!!!... meaning the NCAA doesn't have the physical proof just hearsay

Meaning... The NCAA clearly are going by the Yahoo story and taking everything in it as factual. Ain't this some ****... God ****!!

JC

Ironically the $56,000 I believe is less than what Maria Elena Perez billed the NCAA.

Problem with "leaking" the info in the NOA is that UM is a private institution and that info is protected. The NCAA just put another notch in Don Donna's lawsuit belt by disclosing private information. This is different than the leaks in connection with the investigation because this leak involves a specific document that is privacy protected.

Wasn't there JUST a ******* gag order put out by the NCAA?????

Now this leak???

I guess only UM is supposed to keep its mouth shut, ******* NCAA can quack all they want.

Hypocritical *****.

I feel like she is going to have a field day with these ****'s in court if it makes it that far.

The NCAA is running rough over Miami and I don't see Miami coming out on top. The NCAA ultimatley has more juice. If this was a media darling school then I would think differently about the outcome. Miami might avoid major hits but their punishment will probably still have some teeth when it's all over with. The NCAA clearly doesn't fear anything that Miami has to offer.

I love when people say skate:

2 years of bowl bans, loss of scholarships, visitation limits, and multiple player suspensions, is worse than OSU, UNC, Boise, and South Carolina got for comparable or less money!

1 Clemson, Ole Miss, or Louisville recruit weekend will cost boosters more than this.

I think most people relate heavy NCAA mandated scholarship losses with major punishment. That is the one thing devastates programs.
