Article: NCAA Charges Miami With Lack of Institutional Control

NCAA trying to sway public opinion back on their side by leaking the dollar amount, which makes the "violations" seem worse. They're ****ed that Shalala blasted them.

This is why Donna mentioned all the uncalled for leaks to the media in her statement.

She already called them on it and they're still doing it. It should only be making it worse for them.

AP: NCAA's allegations against Miami say Shapiro provided at least $170K in benefits, including $56K to football players/recruits.

What a terrible thread title! We didn't pay sheeiiit! Shapiro paid it(which I'm sure they can't prove) How can u bee a fan and not get that right? Even if true over 10 yrs or so that's like 4 or 5 k a year. Please man please. Put a decent thread title on it dude.

Pretty sure the NCAA putting benefits monetarily is common practice.

NCAA cited South Carolina as providing 59k in benefits to student athletes and the NCAA accepted their self punishment of scholarship reductions (6) and recruiting restrictions. They also paid a baby 5 figure fine.

Should be fairly easy to figure out the Wilfork/Rolle thing. I don't have the original yahoo article anymore, but I'm pretty sure he gave month/year on when he gave them stuff. Anybody have that info?

Its funny ..I'm curious as **** to what the NCAA is gonna say when the COI ask them " what is the burden of proof to which you substantiate these allegations? "and the NCAA say Nevin Shapiro and his credit card statements.

COI - "you mean the guy who is in jail for bilking people out of $930 million and has gone on record to say he WANTS to destroy the Miami Program. Also he said he had MILLIONS of dollars that he provided to Miami but you come here with only $170K?... "

COI - UM you've been transparent admitted to violations and imposed self imposed penalties including a championship in which a BCS bid was at stake. Since ALL of the coaches and players involved are gone, you have time served.

COI - The Coaches will be dealt with separately.

If the rest of the COI believes as Bobby Cremins does, then this is a very likely scenario.

NCAA got no problem leaking their side of the story out there all the while trying to muzzle UM. We're engaged in a PR war right now.

1 more thing on the alleged 90k to Wilfork and Rolle...

I believe, if both players already declared, then it is irrelevant. They can be wined and dinned as much as possible at that point. Since there is no information or timeline, this is impossible to guess or speculate.

I think Vishnu had already outlined that in his original article when he blew apart Robinson's initial article.

• Shapiro also told federal agents in taped interviews that his former partner in Axcess Sports – then-NFL agent and current UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue – told him that he had paid Rolle approximately $40,000 while he was playing for the Hurricanes. According to a summary document acquired by Yahoo! Sports, Shapiro told federal agents that he also had a direct conversation with Rolle in which the player affirmed receiving the money from Huyghue and that he planned to repay it. Shapiro also told federal agents that current Miami staffer Sean Allen also had knowledge of Huyghue paying Rolle.

---How could this be corroborated if Allen's testimony is thrown out and huyghue denied everything and Rolle didn't talk... cmon NCAA

Corroborating accounts

One source corroborated Shapiro’s account of the $50,000 cash payment, verifying they were on hand and witnessed the cash being taken from a box in a locked drawer [the source referred to it as Shapiro’s “drawer safe”] on the second floor of Shapiro’s home and delivered to Wilfork and his then-fiancée in a paper bag. The source described the cash as five stacks of $10,000, each bound in a bank ribbon.

---Don't know who snitched but in the NCAA view probably gives credence to the Rolle allegation...Plus supposedly it was during Wilfork's season.

One source = Shapiro

Hey NCAA ... There no reason to believe that your key witness might make up **** is there?...

"The public is going to hate me worse in the next coming months," Shapiro said in numerous e-mails to The Miami Herald in the past few months. "It's going to be severe and catastrophic. My feelings are getting inflamed and I'm going to pop off pretty soon with regards to them and the NCAA. I'm coming for them both (Miami and former players) and I'm going to be successful.

"I'm taking that program down to Chinatown and the former players and links to that program. Why? Because the U.S. government lined up 47 former players to testify against me in open court if I went to trial. That in itself is motivation to shove it up their collective (butts)."

Seem credible, right NCAA..

This is the clearest sign yet that the NCAA has no intention of letting UM skate.

I dont think it has anything to do with skating or not. Right now the ncaa is trying to get the mud off so they leak these numbers to sway public opinion. In the end there will be a deal cause it benefits both parties. But in the meantime there is a war for public opinion and this is the ncaas attempt at getting the public on their side and against miami.

He probably wont sit on our case since he made that public statement.
