****, Morgan was an absolute liability his frosh and much of his soph year.

what morgan dan or derrick..

Dan. He was like a chicken with his head cut off his frosh year.

yea he only led the team in tackles..I am not sure we all watched the same games..due to his bad fresh yr he was all BIG EAST going into his soph yr..his soph numbers were posted above...150+tackles that is not a liability that is a first round draft pic....

1997 (FRESHMAN): Emerged as a true freshman to start each of the last eight games at weakside linebacker...first true freshman to start at linebacker since Ray Lewis in 1993...became the first true-freshman since Lewis to lead the Hurricanes in tackles...registered 105 tackles for the season...led the squad with 68 solo stops...also recorded four tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass break-up, and caused a fumble...posted team-high tackle totals in six of final seven games...played sparingly through first three games before cracking starting lineup in Week 4...selected by The Sporting News as a second-team freshman All-American...made first career start vs. West Virginia...sacked Mountaineer quarterback Marc Bulger causing a fumble that was recovered at the UM 39-yardline to thwart a potential WVU scoring drive...led Miami with 11 tackles, including eight solo, against Florida State...followed that game with a team leading 13 tackle performance against Boston College to become the first true freshman since Lewis to lead the team in tackles for consecutive games and to record back-to-back double-figure tackle games...also led Miami with nine tackles against Temple...turned in a 21 tackle performance at Virginia Tech, including 14 solo tackles...also credited with 14 solo tackles a week later vs. Rutgers...closed out the season with a 19 tackle effort, including 13 solo, vs. Syracuse...also had two sacks and a tackle for loss against the Orangemen...registered double-digit solo tackles in four games, including each of the last three...one of two Hurricanes to record 10 or more solo tackles in a game, and the only player to do it more than once...tallied 94 tackles (64 solo) over last seven games... averaged 13.4 tackles per game (9.1 solo) over that span...had 11 tackles to his credit through first four games...entered preseason drills at fullback before switching to defense one week into camp.

Just because he led the team in tackles doesn't mean he wasn't ****ing things up left and right. He just played 100mph every play and our defense sucked in general so there were plenty of tackles to be had.

If people watched games instead of just looking at stats they'd know Morgan was far from dominant as a freshmans. He humped a lot of piles that year and ran up some stats that way. He turned out to be an incredible LB, but he didn't start out that way. Neither did Vilma. And that's the point I was making when I said Vilma and Morgan were not world-beaters until they were upperclassmen.

Gotta give Perryman the benefit of that same time that those guys got before you start idiotically labeling him a 3rd teamer on our better teams. That's just flat out stupid.

Everybody going nuts about Eddie Johnson last year clearly wasn't paying attention to how often he was ******* up. Same kind of thing.

Perryman is playing a different position and is being axed to do different things in a different defense. As a football professional, your friend should know that instead of just looking at bare numbers.

Sweet to reminisce about Dan's glory by reading a press clipping, but if you watched every snap of that season, as I did, you would know that he was thrown to the wolves. I had heated arguments with guys in college who played against him in high school. They went on to play at FSU and consistently pointed to Dan as an example of how far UM had slipped. And there wasn't much I could say in response during his frosh year, despite what the stats may tell you on the interweb, because he was less than a JAG -- he was a liability, like I said. Sure you saw glimmers, but no one in the world would have guessed where Dan ended up after that first year.

Butch Davis and Dan Morgan did...

Davis had to be talked into taking him. Didn't want him. His dad was connected to Dan Marino in some way, and they pushed through many back channels to get Dan an offer.

Butch Davis and Dan Morgan did...

Just stop. Dan was an undersized fullback in high school. Butch had no idea what he was getting. As 'Chise said, Dan's father's connections got him to UM. He was not a typical Butch find. If we signed the equivalent today, the collective vitriol for Al would implode the board. As a prospect, Dan made Romeo Davis look like DJ Williams. This thread has run its course, but the fact is our fans love revisionist history when it comes to comparing former players to present ones. Look at what Colin is doing in the league. When he was here, many, many porsters labeled him a JAG.

Dan Morgan was a boss. He had 18 tackles in the Superbowl. Love how Canes show up big when it matters most. Agree with his assessment of Quan, and I'm intrigued by what he says about Derosier. Not concerned by his comments about Perryman as he was an underclassman. I love Figs, Kirby, and Perryman as our future LB corp - loads of talent there.

He had 25 tackles in the Superbowl. 18 solo 7 assisted. Dude was an animal but might be one of the more under recognized guys to ever play here. His name should be mentioned up there with Ray and before guys like Vilma and others. Our all-time leading tackler and not only the first player in NCAA history to win the Butkus, Nagurski and Bednarik in career but he won all 3 in one year.

"Do you see what happens, Larry? Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the alps? This is what happens, Larry! This is what happens when you feed a stoner scrambled eggs!"

I wish I could rep this a hundred times. It's one thing to know Big Lebowski lines - it's a totally different thing to know the TV-edited lines.

My life is sad, I own the DVD and only watched it once yet I have seen it 1000 times on WPIX or 55 or whatever basic cable station without the cursing.

I love Perryman, he may not be Lewis, Vilma or Morgan, but the kid is a baller and hits like a mack truck. With improved DL play, he could easily be All-ACC.

Vilma and Morgan weren't Vilma and Morgan as sophomores either. Let Perryman do his thing for his whole career and then judge him.

Not to get into the rest of the morass this thread fell into, but Vilma was **** good as a sophomore. He was All Big East. And came up big in the NB game, amongst others.

Let's get this thread back on track. AQM. AQM. AQM
They are hinting he is in but they are not spelling the beans yet. I guess it's not official yet.
