Any good analysis of what caused Guidry to lose it?

You know why Mario can’t intervene with schematic changes? It’s because he’s not a schematic coach. He brings no value to coaching in that area. He cant help the defense figure things out like a Kirby, Lanning, Stoops, etc…..He cant tweak the offense like Kiffin, Harbaugh, **** Lashlee. (Not saying those coaches are perfect).

Mario has to stay out the way and ride the rollercoaster because he can’t help, outside of O-Line ****
I thought he was “meddling” in 2023 though?

James Williams is in the NFL
Kam Kinchens is in the NFL
Leonard Taylor is in the NFL
Te’Cory Couch is gone
Jaden Davis was drafted by the NFL
Mauigoa got slow
Bain was injured and never himself
Damari brown was injured in week 1
Elijah Alston was injured most of the season
Losing Harvey and JHH was ****-on at the time, but they’re both good players and would have helped a ton. Branson Deen as well.
Jaden Harris is in the conversation for worst Miami safety of all-time
The defense wasn’t nearly as good as some of you remember. It was WAY better than this year, obviously, but not great. People just hated Dawson because of TVD, but the offense was statistically better last season.
We can’t recruit DBs to save our lives to replace the kids above we lost
Opposing coaches now have power level film on Guidry

Bottom line, we lost several NFL players/very good players and replaced them with **** on toast. Going from Kam and James to Meesh and Harris is like leaving Bern’s and diving thru Arby’s. Guidry was clearly outclassed schematically, but his staff and Mario did him no favors by again providing Arby’s. The portal additions have stunk, the DB recruiting has been beyond nightmarish conditions and Guidry was clueless.
That about sums it up.

Also, beware of any DC who has "exotic" packages. They are often gimmicks and don't last as effective schemes.

Fun Fact: I love the cherry turnovers from Arbys.

Thank you, thank you. Some make it sound like we lost Bama level NFL talent.
Could argue our high-powered offense forced opponents into shoot outs, but still no excuse for a defense that often was misaligned, wasn’t physical and from the first to last game got abused on off tackle and perimeter runs. Don’t care if we lined up a bunch of walk-ons, at some point you figure it out and make adjustments.
Guidry obviously struggled to make proper fixes. It’s also clear the rest of defensive staff are recruiters and not capable coaches. Our head coach is an old OL coach - never a coordinator -and lacked the expertise to step in and fix the defense.
In his CEO role, Mario now needs to identify a quality DC and give him total control of that side of the ball.
I believe that Mario even though he’s never coached defense knows what it should look like.

He’s been around too many great coaches who had an in depth knowledge of the other side of the ball. My issue is him not intervening on the play calling or making a change in season when it was obvious he needed to. He put Guidry’s pride and extending professional courtesy over the team.

If a QB throws 4 picks in the first half you pull him, a RB fumbles multiple times in a game somebody else is getting the touches and we’ll figure out what going on later. He didn’t reign Guidry in.

If Mario spent all that time with Saban and didn’t learn to have your hands in all of it then he wasted his time. Saban had different play callers out of necessity because they all were getting poached but you always saw him chewing their *** and openly questioning WTF they were doing IN GAME… on camera in front of everyone. It needed to look a certain way and they knew they better figure it out now.

“Hey I want to run the ball more” isnt much more than a request. Doubt Mario did that because he saw a schematic advantage
Not really aiming that comment at you I’m just seeing the hypocrisy starting to generate

“Meddling” produces a lot of search results is all I’m saying before the board gets carried away

I look forward to the culture analysis. I am thinking it is complete bull****, but have not had a chance to create an inflammatory review, yet.

The Mario ****ting on the trajectory of other programs while folding will be one, Guidry's arrogance about adjustments - making none - then getting fired, Dawson mocking Lagway then running Emory out there... CIS loved all of these moments from the Flintstone level coaching staff being typical bullies until we got punched in the mouth - then the cheap suit crew was who we thought they were.

They weren't all that great in 23 either. Every offense with a pulse cooked them. Single handedly lost UNC and UL.

He didn't fall off a cliff. We were in wait and see in 24 because we couldn't tell if he was good or not.
Think the injuries we saw on defense led us down this “doing more with less” fantasy we’ve always wished we had

We just wanted it too badly

Can anyone point to the reasons Guidry and the defense fell off a cliff. If we just had the 23 defense we’d still be playing. It can’t just be the loss of Kam and JW. We added a ton of portal lineman but got less pressure. I remember how worried we were about losing him to LSU and gave him a new deal.

What happened to the exotic pressures and 3rd quarter adjustments?

It reminds me somewhat of Alex Grinch and Don Brown.
Mindset and work ethics of players

Barrow was the only defense portal addition that was good, very little pressure generated from our DL, very average to bad LB play and a horrible secondary, plus bad coaching. When players look confused, out of position and lost pre snap you know you're in big trouble. If we had an average defense we have one loss or go undefeated and make it to the CFP.

Some really good points made. I’m having a hard time finding anything the staff did well. Doesn’t appear it can be narrowed down to one or two things. Mario hired a coach who wasn’t quite ready for this and also did a poor job of getting adequate talent in the secondary. Disaster. Scheme is bad, recruiting is bad, development is bad.

Guidry called plays like he knew our defense sucked and there was nothing he could do about it. Players played the same way - no confidence.

Good points. First, tough guy that he is, can’t recall Mario chewing anyone out in-game - coaches, players, official. Second, can’t believe Mario wasn’t sitting in on defensive staff meetings. Probably even offered suggestions, but nothing noticeably changed. Would also imagine he let his feelings known to Guidry away from the bright lights and probably would have fired his *** mid-season if he had a handy replacement.
That said, Mario is not Nick Saban or Kirby Smart - two of the sharpest defensive minds, especiallly as relates to secondary play.

It looked like no one knew what the **** they were supposed to do on most plays too, and guys are going to play slowly when they're guessing or trying to cover for other's blown assignments.

I just want a defense that looks something like the PSU defense from last night. Their DL was tuff and fyzikal and outside of the TE leak play and the long Jeanty run on 3rd & long their guys were disciplined and in the right spots.
