Honestly given the shiitake that is OUs offense I don’t even understand them not going all out for portal oline+WR+RB and just getting like a $1M max QB like a Chandler Rogers… maybe they have a lot of good young freshman skill guys they are confident in? Idk.

Mateer would be an absolute fool not to come down to Miami, hear what our plan for him is and weigh his options in terms of money plus what he will be surrounded with. He would also be very shortsighted not to seriously consider us given what UM did for Cam Ward's career trajectory.

Look at OU's Offensive Line, RBs, TEs and WRs and compare that with UMs. It's UM in a landslide but hey, it's his career right?

If he wants 5 million , he should get 5 million. Honestly I won’t complain (much) if UM spends its entire NIL budget on him. Cristobal made a lot of money based on his reputation as an elite recruiter and roster builder. Put up or shut up time. The roster should be complete enough through HS recruiting that we just need an elite QB to be competitive for a title.

If we can’t afford Mateer because we still have to land multiple players from the portal to fill roster holes due to ****ty recruiting 4 years into Mario’s tenure , then I think Mario should spend part of his own paycheck to make up the difference as it would be clear to everyone that he hasn’t earned it.

I’m honestly baffled that some people really think that the plan that consists of going with Emory, and use the Mateer money to surround him with top WRs in the portal, is viable.

The top portal WRs won’t touch Miami with a ten-foot pole if Emory is QB1 and maybe Mario will have to overpay the WRs already on roster in order to retain them.

It would be bad.

If he only goes to Oklahoma, with no agent, then it really isn’t about money or who his WR’s are. It’s about playing at OK with an OC he clearly liked.

I respect that…but while we have uncertainty OK needs 7-8 p5 offensive transfer to give him a chance.

Dropping back or taking off and running with that team is going to get him hurt and not improve his draft stock.

Agreed. Eric Rivers seems to hint at the same thing. If miami doesn't get a proven portal QB we can forget the top portal WRs..

I'll gladly take a proven P4 QB that is a riser up the scouts boards.

I get that Mateer is the shiny new object but really can’t understand why more people don’t feel this way. I think the kid would fit pretty well in SDs offense and would also mean Mario would have more money to spend on getting players around him. Feels like it’s trending this way anyway given that Mendoza hasn’t signed anywhere yet (even though he is an NFL prospect) and hasn’t really taken many visits either.

Agreed. Kinda glad I’m going out of town on vacation on Saturday and looking forward to coming back to Mendoza likely being QB1 for next season. Hopefully by then logic and reason will at least have come back to the board a little bit.

I hope not, Mendoza would be a fine plan B. A name you can potentially sell to the WRs you are trying to get from the portal.
