All in on Mateer (Boomed and Sooned)

I’m guessing he follows his OC. Otherwise OU would be trying to keep JA in house.
But IF Mateer is truly Mario’s guy, Mario needs to drop an offer he can’t say no to. If JA was debating of staying, that would signal that Mateer may not be a done deal.

But I doubt any of that has happened. This ain’t going to be like last year where we take our sweet time evaluating and then bringing in Cam and Will and then deciding on Cam only to have Cam enter the draft and then pulling out and committing to us.

Tier 1 and 2 are going to be pretty much formalities by next Wednesday or Thursday. If we strike out early, our options could be guys like Mendoza or hoping Ewers and/or Milroe transfers instead of going to NFL.

I’m curious if JA tries to recruit a couple of WRs to follow him too.

Ward picking UM over FSU, Ohio State, or other schools seemed equally unlikely. Kid is weighing going to the nfl to be a mid round pick against trying another year in cfb to raise his draft stock. We had a 7 win season and a horrendous offense with TVD, but he took Miami’s offer. And he is now likely going to be the #3 pick in the draft. Probably would have won Heisman too if not for Cristobal hiring Guidry.

Ward and Mateer talk (Mateer has said this). And Mateer has said he loves seeing how Ward dominated cfb. So Cristobal has pulled a rabbit out of his hat before.

Also, it may be hard to believe but there is also chance Mateer isn’t all-in on Arbuckle. A lot of WSU fans are happy to see him go, they think he didn’t maximize Mateer’s ability. WSU lost its last 3 games in a row to truly pathetic teams.
Wasn’t too long ago WSU was in the running for a playoff spot having only 1 loss to BSU. Should easily have run the table from there and finished with 1 loss, but they ended up losing to University of New Mexico, Oregon State, and 3-9 Wyoming (where WSU only scored 14 pts!). A lot of that was them having a Guidry-like defense but that last one was really bad.

I hear ya and I hope you are right.
We are both speculating at this point. My overall point is that if he’s the guy, we need to finalize it asap, because last year we may or may not have missed out on having Jeremiah Smith commit due to uncertainty at qb position - we got Sam Brown very late, but could we have had different option if we had Cam in house before that?

I just read between the tea leaves a little different right now. Hope I am completely wrong.

Mateer would ignite our fanbase and maintain momentum after a very disappointing finish; arm-talent, tough, and can do serious damage with his legs. It would be completely justified to break the bank for him with untapped resources leftover from HS recruiting.

Cam was last year's unicorn and, based on what his success meant for the brand, Miami should make another serious push for this year's unicorn; it's sound business at the end of the day.

Hopefully he decides soon.

He would be better for us than Cam and would certainly get us further. He doesn't hold the ball nearly as long and runs way better, so the offense would stay on schedule and could effectively choke teams out. Cam's ability to extend is nice, but routine plays win games. Just watch Dillon Gabriel play; nowhere near the talent of Cam and doesn't push the ball down field, but he makes the routine play more consistently.

[]__[] will have better talent next season and would be much tougher with Mateer; CFB don't want that. Hopefully we throw the large bag and get it done quickly; the sooner we get a QB and start working the better.

I never thought cam was some unicorn . He had a lot of time to throw the ball . He was so off and on . Good qb elusive but not a pure passer imo . I want a true rpo qb like the GT one . I believe it makes us more dangerous keeps are ****** d on the sidelines more

Cam made wow plays and was a very good qb but we don’t need all that qb to be successful. With our OL time will be there so progressions are easy to make and you’ll have a good rb. A good qb with good wheels will feast here.

The amount of times we had turnovers or drives end on third down with guys wide open for check downs was frustrating. The GT fourth quarter alone was criminal what they were allowed to do. If the handful of check downs were hit we win. On top of that a lot of the sacks were caused by not throwing it away or checking it down, living to fight another down. I’m not crapping on Cam im just saying we don’t that good of a talent to be successful. A better defense / scheme alone takes away a good bit of the pressure the offense / Cam had to deal with . There was no wiggle room. I do think Cam got caught up in the Heisman hype and was trying to play for highlights / yards.

Just needs a QB than can get the job done. Not bashing but reality. he has some really bad Int's and dropped Int's this year too.

TVD was THAT bad. that is what people dont get. You put a competent QB who's a good athlete, you will put up numbers.
Cam is like the guy who will pull on for a 3 on the 3 on 1 fast break. it's just who he is. He gave us a great season, it was fun but I dont see how it works at the next level.
