The issue is that Emory doesn’t have a real competitor to put pressure on him. That is totally unacceptable for an unproven QB. I’d understand that if we knew we had a badass baller.

I have come around on it. I think with a o-line and weapons around him he could be good. He won’t put up cam numbers but it will give the backs a few more opportunities in the run game. I can see him be a 68% 3300 yards 25td type guy

I dont hate him for being loyal to the guys who developed him. we just had Horton who tripped over his own feet and caught balls like he was playing hot potato have a staff work with him for three years, develop him, and he tries to extort them. Mateer is putting his career on the line for his peeps.

He wasn’t ready in 2023. For sure. Miss me with the he beat Clemson and we almost beat fsu ****. We beat Clemson because of our lines and Klubnik was probably worse than Emory back then. I was at the fsu game, there wasn’t a second where I ever thought we’d win. He was like 10/28 for some ****. He sucked.

But none of this matters a ******* lick. Would the QB be 2023 Emory? Then yeah we’re gonna suck. What does 2025 Emory look like? I’ll say not Cam Ward but I’ll also say definitely not 2023 Emory either.

I wanted mateer and I would be fine taking another portal kid. But this absolutely ***** crybaby **** about we’re going 6-6 with Emory is nauseating. And like I said, almost always when this board feels one way, bet the house on the other side.

I wish I had your optimism.

I doubt we go 6-6 but never count Miami out when it comes to disappointing its fans. At this point though 8-4 and 6-6 may as well be the same thing. Other schools getting their **** together with NIL has seemingly almost completely nullified Mario's one advantage, recruiting.

Regardless of whether you identify as a mope, realist, slurper, sunshine pumper, etc this upcoming year will most likely be the cornerstone for this program for many years to come. The '26 class is supposed to be loaded in S Fla and we need another top 7+ class but it needs to be a better recruiting rating average. The funds may quickly start to dry up if things go south next year.

If his OC ends up going to WSU to be the HC, I don't think his 9 months with his QB coach is so strong a bond he couldn't leave Oklahoma. Maybe one of them is pregnant so that 9 months was really meaningful.

And to think we tormented FSU this year and when they signed the quitter QB………….why do we follow this crap?

He checks a lot of boxes for me. Put him in a qb friendly offense with weapons , a run game and really good ol those numbers are doable. We should’ve been 5-0 with Tvd who was a int machine . We need a smart adult in the room and that’ll go a long way . He’s also a much better athlete than some think. Add him and go spend on defense and wr. That way we don’t need to score 42 a game to win.
