Emory ceiling is Mendoza. I’m hoping his arm improved significantly over what it was in 2023 because it was bad and we had to run our offense with the training wheels on. Hopefully Emory has improved leaps and bounds but he’s nowhere near the range of a Cam Ward, the offense will take a massive hit losing X and Cam then replacing them with CJ and Emory.

I don’t know the kid personally so I’m not going to say dream school **** but he was enamored with OU as a kid, at the least. They hired his OC. They hired his QB coach. He gets to go home, or close to it, collect a massive bag, play in the SEC in a system he knows perfectly well. People saying all that **** doesn’t matter are ******* morons.

Now, I am surprised he didn’t even make the trip to drive the bag up. But we don’t know what kind of kid this is. They probably offered him plenty of money and he said I don’t need to play games, let’s roll.

Miami has plenty to offer and sell for this kid. But not enough to outweigh paragraph 1. We’ll survive.

This wouldn’t hurt as bad if we didn’t have so many logical reasons in our favor taking a Day 3 pick and turning him into a top 2-3 pick, highest scoring offense, incredible OL to play behind, and the cash…..vs a team that’s a bottom feeder in the SEC

I think Mensah and the North Texas QB who signed with UVA - name slips my mind - are better than what we have. Unfortunately those guys committed elsewhere and we went all in on Mateer and then couldn’t get him to visit. It worked out for Mario last year, though it was not a guarantee and we were close to going into spring with Poff as the guy. Didn’t work out so well this time and the better backup options are gone now. The last 6 weeks or so have been god awful.

It’s not a sustainable model/strategy, just like depending on Cam to bail us out every game was not sustainable.

You’re bound to get burned.

They need to fix the operation. 4 years in, still figuring it out is not a good sign.
