Al Golden Press Conference 8/28

Guy will become a legend here if he can get his **** together and win the man is very likable and is a **** of a CEO for our program

there's no reason to think he won't win big here as he has improved the win total every year and last year especially we would of won 1-2 more if DUke and Dorsett hadn't gone down . **** even the much maligned D got better last year . Not near good enough but better . if we can have a top 40 D we can be a top 10 team as the RB , WR and TE positions are loaded and Kaaya is a star in the making .

Bull****. He's had the same trajectory at UM that Randy Shannon has. He's fielded some of the worst defenses in Miami history, and has ONE win at UM against a team with 8 or more wins. So yes, there's plenty of reasons to think he won't win big here.

This is only part of the story. AG has recruited far better than Randy did. Randy signed the 2008 class, quit recruiting, and then watched his dream class, for the most part, do absolutely nothing. AG, instead of losing momentum, seems to be building it. There's a much different vibe around the program now than there was going into Randy's 4th year. If I'm the only one feeling that vibe, so be it.

Agreed and hope he gets it done, my only question is can he improve on being a day game coach.

He's recruited about the same. Golden couldn't even recruit over guys like AJ Highsmith, Kacy Rodgers, Jimmy Gaines, or Shayon Greene, so cool it with the "AG has recruited better" stuff. It's not backed up by fact.

Going into Randy's fourth year, UM was a top 12 team with a positive outlook for the season. We're unranked right now going into Golden's fourth year. I like some things Golden has done this offseason, particularly recruiting, but the "vibe" stuff is revisionist history.

I don't care what it's backed up by. AG has recruited better athletes than Randy did. He hasn't been perfect (DT), but I feel far better about the program and the direction it's heading now than I did going into Randy's 4th year. Lulz at looking at preseason ranking to determine the vibe...smh.

Yeah, I agree, the national perception on where our program is headed and the expectations on how good our team would be going into the 2010 season have no bearing on the "vibe." Instead we should just consult you for the "vibe." Of course you don't care what it's backed up by, you have your opinions that aren't based on anything and you'll stick to them regardless of how wrong you are.

One guy recruited like he was under investigation. One recruited under an investigation due to actions that largely occurred under the first guy.

But it's 4 YEARS doe, bro!!! 4 years!

So are you admitting that Al Golden didn't recruit as well as Randy Shannon or are you claiming that he did?

If you're going to have a bad coach, at least get one that recruits well.

Even if Al doesn't happen to win here, he'll recruit enough talent to where his successor will succeed immediately.

What's revisionist is you, and people like you, speaking about Golden's tenure as if it was an ideal situation.
Shannon left this program in a dumpster, and his ignorance and sheer stupidity almost caused this program to cease to exist.

We were a laughingstock in college football, and an NFL joke when Golden took over. We were also pretty much shut out of the best recruiting area in the country thanks to Shannon's myopia.

The reason Golden has great national respect amongst his peers, even if a few local morons belittle him, is because he has done quite a bit with very little, in the worst imaginable situation for a head coach.

I detest Shannon as a coach but at least Randy never left us hanging right before signing day while he was out trying to find another job.

I was a huge fan of Golden before he was hired here and he continues to say the right things and show he is an intelligent man who should be on a successful path, but I want to see some fire out of him. We've seen him come to tears when we've won games. We know he truly cares about the team and his guys. But he has a lot to make up for IMO and I would like to see him shoulder some of that responsibility and look himself in the mirror. Challenge himself and his coaches that this isn't acceptable at Miami. I'm not "against" him but he has a lot to prove, almost like starting over......or worse really.

Your move, Al.

1, the bolded is horrendously wrong because it was Shannon that tried his best to get Nevin out of the program. He even threatened to suspend players and fire coaches if he caught them associating with Shapiro.

Two, my post has nothing to do with whether Golden inherited an "ideal" situation. That's nothing but a red herring by you. I pointed out that Golden has done basically the same thing as Shannon so far, and there's no reason to assume that Golden will "win big" yet. That's it. You guys constantly bring up all this other BS to make excuses for Golden, but none of that explains why we should assume that Golden is going to win big.

Let me put something into perspective. Al Golden has more commitments for the class of 2016 than Randy had for the upcoming class, 2 months away. That is all you need to know about direction.

Agree. He's also recruited with the death penalty, bowl losses, scholarship reductions, and probation being used against us for 3 years on the trail. What an ignorant post.

Why is it so difficult for people to accept this?

I'll tell you one thing. Al looks more relaxed than he's ever looked here. Hopefully, that means he thinks he's got something special brewing this season.

Shannon was garbage as a head coach and while I concede Golden is a better recruiter and relationship builder, it hasn't translated to **** on the field, which is all that matters at the end of the day.

The majority of this porst speaks to "vibe," "feel," and just about anything else other than on-field results.

Say whatever you want about the way Randy left this team: There is no excuse, even with the personnel Golden has been dealt, to field defenses this poorly and underachieve against so many mediocre teams.

It's also pretty funny how we were a "laughingstock in college football" when Golden took over, yet FSU fans were laughing their asses off in celebration after Golden didn't get PSU job.

Take into account the way the season ended, the fact more and more fans are cognizant of the **** defenses we have field, all combined with the PSU fiasco and we're still a laughingstock. The only way this will change is producing on the field.

People seem to forget how organizationally absurd we were under RS. Just look at how practices are run now, marketing, fan interaction, practice habits, S&C, and on and on. It was a joke. AG legitimized the program. The Shapiro **** held the staff back for sure, but I am liking what's going on recruiting-wise, and while we have our issues (LB and S for example), we have depth at some positions for the first time in many years. One step at a time. Its not going to be a quick fix.
