Al Golden Press Conference 8/28

That's what he's told the admin and they believe him. They also recognize he has been recruiting at an elite level since 2012 and much better than Randy Shannon in any way including his 2008 class. They feel that with the talent he has brought in, wins should be more convincing, but they're giving him some leeway with that. The, "vibe," around the season and program as a whole is very positive from the admin's perspective. They expect major success this year and while angry are grateful that he wasn't offered the job from Penn State.

Whoever said he is without question here until 2019 is beyond wrong. The admin expects results now.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I wonder what makes you think this.

I'm a student that works in the President's Office. That's the overwhelming attitude of everyone there.

TedHendricksOffspring,

Thank you for answering my question. I must say I am surprised. I have lived much of my life around academics and academia. My father was Dean of Engineering at a major university, and a lot of the people we socialized with were college professors and their families. I have taught math at several universities and JUCO's, including UM. I think I have a pretty good idea what people in that sort of environment consider most important. I really don't know Donna and her staff personally (I taught there during the Tad Foote days), but what you say surprises me.

arcane,

No problem. I should expound a little bit more. The football team is not the primary focus of President Shalala and the admin at all. Academics are and always will be the most important topic they deal with. Any college worth its academic salt has the same attitude. But when the football team is the topic of discussion, standards and expectations are brought up. With the talent Golden has brought in, going into the 4th year of the staff, and viewing the schedule put out before the team, the admin expects improvement and results now. Results being a fair expectation of a Coastal championship, not necessarily a national championship. The difference between now and the Tad Foote era is the machine was humming along nicely with no need for the admin to get involved. Currently, that is no longer the case. The admin needed to take a more vested interest in the program. Once it's up and running smoothly again, they'll remove themselves from the equation. But make no mistake about. Academic attention and improvement are not nor will they ever be sacrificed for football priorities.

Seeing as you are a former professor at the school, please accept my appreciation of your dedication and service to the University of Miami.

Thank you for clarifying.

No disrespect, weownfsu, but did you not see how many injuries UF had last season? When we played them they were a very competitive and good team. Their injuries snowballed out of control as they lost an enormous amount of their starters and 2 deep. Hence the reason most polls have them rated higher than us coming of a 4-8 season. Even with Driskell as QB.

What's revisionist is you, and people like you, speaking about Golden's tenure as if it was an ideal situation.
Shannon left this program in a dumpster, and his ignorance and sheer stupidity almost caused this program to cease to exist.

We were a laughingstock in college football, and an NFL joke when Golden took over. We were also pretty much shut out of the best recruiting area in the country thanks to Shannon's myopia.

The reason Golden has great national respect amongst his peers, even if a few local morons belittle him, is because he has done quite a bit with very little, in the worst imaginable situation for a head coach.

1, the bolded is horrendously wrong because it was Shannon that tried his best to get Nevin out of the program. He even threatened to suspend players and fire coaches if he caught them associating with Shapiro.

Two, my post has nothing to do with whether Golden inherited an "ideal" situation. That's nothing but a red herring by you. I pointed out that Golden has done basically the same thing as Shannon so far, and there's no reason to assume that Golden will "win big" yet. That's it. You guys constantly bring up all this other BS to make excuses for Golden, but none of that explains why we should assume that Golden is going to win big.

Golden has done the exact opposite of Shannon.
Shannon alienated ever high school coach, except it seems a few whom he knew from his hood.
Golden has successfully rebuilt those bridges Shannon burned.

Shannon's idea of training and diet led us to being laughed at by NFL guys like Alonzo Highsmith.
Golden's S & C program and emphasis on good diet versus Shannon's KFC training table, has NFL personnel looking at Miami as a scouting destination again, instead of a vacation spot.

The reason Golden will win very big here is pretty evident when you look at the players.
Look at our 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players.
They have all gotten better each year.
We don't have any bad apples, ala Ray Ray, anymore. Our best players seem to be our hardest workers, and that speaks to, not just individual, but team character.
When everyone on your 2 deep is talented, has worked as hard as possible for self and team improvement, has studied to thoroughly grasp the play book, and most importantly are all pulling on the same oar, then you have a very dangerous team.

The haters always say, "Well, win big and then we will see."
Last year we beat a ranked Gator team, now the revisionists, like yourself, say they sucked.
At the time we beat them they were a top 20 team.

Seems like you guys are only looking for the negatives, while the positives are all around.

Here's a positive you all forget.

Golden is locked into Miami for the long haul. Hate all you want, but he isn't going anywhere for the next 5 years.

Revisionists? UF did suck. They were a 4-8 team that lost to an FCS team who did not even complete a pass in the game. I don't think you know what the word "revisionist" means. Beating a 4-8 UF team is not "winning big." And it doesn't mean anything when you blow multiple chances to win your side of the ACC, AGAIN.

That whole word salad is nice, but it doesn't explain why I'm supposed to think a guy who has fielded the worst D's in UM history, regularly gets beat down against good teams, and cannot beat teams with 8 or more wins is going to win big here.

Only with our fan base do we have "supporters" who literally try to twist and malign OUR OWN TEAMS accomplishments in order to diminish them. SMH.

Pretty sad that Miami fans will diminish a solid win against a ranked UF team to attack our coaches and team.

Pretty sad that some Miami fans have accepted mediocrity and ****** coaching and learned to live with it...all while making counting excuses on it's behalf.

Whoa. Here comes Superfan! Watch out everyone!

To your remark - One is actually happening, while the other is what those of your ilk say when people don't agree with you.

But continue *****ing and bashing liking each other's porsts like 13 year old girls on Facebook, while many of us get ready to root for our football program on Monday.

BTW - beating that UF team at high noon on our home field the last time they are on our schedule was a big win then and it remains a big win and I'll take beating the Gators all day everyday

You're confused...superfans firmly believe you should blindly support the coach at the University of Miami even after it's been made apparent that said coach is horrible. Otherwise turn in your "Cane Card" and beg forgiveness from the almighty Don Bailey Jr.

Not confused at all. A few things are clear to me:
- ***** ruin nearly every thread with *****ing and moaning or bad schtick
- Al Golden needs to win football games to remain the head coach of the University of Miami
- Diminishing a legit, solid win against our hated rival is being a ****

Esto.

Jury is still out. Beat Lville jury starts to sway, beat down lullvul nury will swing. Game day coaching and defense MUST leap forward. We are beyond seeking inctemental improvement.

I detest Shannon as a coach but at least Randy never left us hanging right before signing day while he was out trying to find another job

context is everything. UM knew about the investigation before it hired Golden and it chose not to tell Golden about it when it interviewed and hired Golden. They royally screwed him without any lube, hence why they extended his contract through 2019 or so (if not later). so when his alma mater came flirting, he probably felt ZERO loyalty to his employer and went awol while he hoped he would get an offer that apparently never came.

Went AWOL?

He was on vacation when rumors started flying, and within 48 hours he held a press conference and said he's a Cane for the long haul.

We don't know what happened. I think he was chasing psu but don't care that much--that is college football. I have been on both sides of the fence with Al. Huge supporter(he even use to reply to me emails) and huge critic. He is a good CEO and cares about our kids and that mean a lot. He has a plan and follows it--that is good. Problem is questions about if it is a good plan. The last couple months, recruiting has had huge uptick and it feels like kids are really, really giving THE U a fresh look. That makes me think something good is happening.

BUT, everything depends on tomorrow night on the field. If Kaaya comes out gives us flashbacks of Bernie or Kenny we will be happy; IF the defense comes out and plasters loserville we will turn cartwheels. If we see the same crap, then all the good things about Al will not matter at all--he will have to go. Either way, I think we beat criminoles this year--with or without Al as HC.
