A quick update after talking to some people

Fun fact - the Diaz-coached Canes were #6 in the country in 2021 on 4th down conversions, with a success rate of 72%.

In 2020, we were #18, converting at 69%.

I must have missed the part of the draft where we lost multiple first rounders on the OL between 2021 and 2022.
Both things can be true, but this was a different type of offense. Gattass was trying to run power with spread personell. Square peg meet round hole.

Would you like to bet $1000 that we finish with a higher class than Purdue and another $1000 on the same with Miss St?

Of course you won’t, so what’s the point of this?
We have fans that live to be miserable. I hate to say it, but I'm convinced that we have fans that would rather the program fail, than succeed, because it feeds into their victim complex.

We don't know what is going on with recruiting, we also know that the South Florida community demands more out of the hometown team, than they do other places. That said, Mario knows that, and he has to win. Period. I doubt that a guy that managed to pull a top 10 class despite going 5-7 in the ugliest way possible and was one committed corner away from it being top 5 magically forgot how to sell the program. Odds are that there's a lot of nonsense going on behind the scenes, and this staff needs to figure out how to navigate through it. I hope our fans realize that if Mario doesn't make it work, it's extremely unlikely anyone else will. The school went all in on this hire, they won't keep doing this if it becomes evident that unless the coach wins big in year one, the local community will turn their back, and the cheapest fanbase in collegiate athletics does what they do best and that's completely crap on the program.

Let the man cook, evaluate once we know what the finished product is.

The 5-7 season hurt us way more than Miami people was letting on. It’s not just the offense that needed to prove itself this season but our defense needs to prove they are improved. Mario really ****ed up his first season here, it’s going take a lot to show top tier recruits that Miami is the place to come.
All these 5-7 posts. Didn’t do a thing for last class. We are 0-0 this year with new coaches and better players. Sorry, I don’t buy this.

Nah sometimes you just have to realize when the goose is cooked. He ain’t a good gameday coach, his coordinator hires have been generally ***. Last year was the worst I’ve ever seen the canes play. We can’t recruit without massively overspending and don’t have the funds this year. What’s even the point of this, if you look at our team from a non biased outsider’s perspective we suck and have no chance of winning a natty or even being generally competitive in the ACC anytime soon.

They call people who are ahead of the curve & see the writing on the wall mopes. Mario needs to forget his cute little timeline, stop being so stubborn, & get one of these big fish to pop. Not for us, for himself. The last thing you want is this fanbase totally turning on you. At very worst come out & give the fans a little hope.

No competent coach is thinking about how they need to satisfy this fanbase, because this fanbase is a freaking joke. Mario needs to do his job, and do it well. Period. He already addressed some major issues on the staff, I'm curious as to how it goes. If his OC/DC hires are as good as most people think they are, it's not outside the realm of possibility that this team looks massively improved from last year. Even if Miami goes 8-4(or better) with close losses and an exciting, worthwhile product, that's a huge step forward. Last year couldn't have gone any worse, and honestly, I think Mario punted on the season after the MTSU game and put all his eggs in the recruiting basket, because he came to the conclusion that this roster was trash in far too many areas.

I don’t even have reactions turned on so I could care less about that type of stuff tbh with ya. People can down vote me or use whatever other emoji they want. My response was more tongue and cheek.
I get it. I always say every joke has a hint of truth to it, so i took it as a bit of both.

Nope, this fanbase is real & honest. Brutally honest. That line about punting the season is the dumbest thing I've ever read.
This fanbase lives to be miserable and is pathetically cheap. We have people waving the surrender flag based on recruiting in JUNE. It's exhausting dealing with this fanbase, because even when times are good, the consistent whining is annoying. For proof of this, go look at our fans, most of whom didn't realize our basketball program existed before March, complain about how L is recruiting and how he isn't building a super team in one offseason.

By the way, go and listen to how Cristobal's tone about the team changed from Week 1 to Week 6. Cristobal overrated the talent on the roster(Like a lot of of our fans do year after year) when he came in and thought that bringing in an all star staff would fix most of the issues. When someone starts talking about rebuilding and the like, it's obvious that they have lost faith in the talent on the roster. Jimmy Johnson went through a similar thing when he got to the Cowboys, if you are terrible, you are terrible. Cristobal wasn't tanking games(There's no benefit to doing that at the collegiate level), but you could tell that he was spending most of his time dealing with recruiting, and evaluating the crap on the roster than game planning to win maybe an extra game or two. The wheels fell off and it became "Hold on to this class, and get active in the portal".

On paper, it was a great idea, but that staff had more issues than the Hatfields & McCoys. Throw in the lack of talent and players (who are now gone) that didn't want to buy into the culture, and you get a 5-7 sundae with mopes sprinkled on top.

Exactly. Mario made two major mistakes in Year 1: He overrated the talent left behind by Diaz and didn't hit the portal nearly as aggressively as he should and 2: He didn't hire based on fit, he hired based on name recognition. You need a team of coaches, that have well defined roles and are fine with playing said role. You can't have an OC that alienates everyone, and is incompetent at his primary responsibility.

This has been obvious to anybody without the Orange and green glasses.

Mario Cristobal is an unapologetic star *****.

The idea that it’s part of his master plan to load up on middle of the road 3* recruits, is something Mario himself would laugh at.

The scary thing is the teams doing just fine on the trail after having the type of year we had last year.

This makes me think there’s something to the NIL angle.

wrong on the first part. He hated this roster from when he came in. I expect more kids to hit portal by fall.

Recruiting is all about momentum, and we have absolutely none right now. Anyone who follows recruiting could sense early on there was something “amiss” about this class. A majority of the blue chippers just aren’t buying into Miami this year, and when you saw the product on the field last year you understand why. When you look at the top classes right now what do you see? A large portion of them had successful seasons last year. The only anomaly is Florida, and that’s because they’re buying their class. Anyone who’s spent time around kids these days realize they enjoy the hype, buzz, publicity, etc. and when you go 5-7 nobody is talking about you. Mario made his bed last year with poor hires and now he has to somehow find a way out of it. IMO, the magic number is at least 9 wins. If we go 6-6, or even 7-5, I think this class is in serious trouble.
Not buying it. SunBelt Billy putting together at top 5 class with a trash *** product.

What are you talking about? You should know by now every coach has a recruiting bump in their first year. Recruits just don’t forget about last season, Miami has a lot to prove.

You can say he overrated the talent of the roster, but that roster still should not have been smoked by MTSU. Period. End of discussion. Lock the **** thread because after that, nothing else needs to be said about the coaching job last year.

It's a new year but do not use talent as the excuse last season. It was WELL beyond talent......and it starts with coaching.
