Richt until illness kicked in and hopefully Mario BECOMES the best head coach since Butch. Mario is 5-7 so far.Who is the best head coach Miami has had since Butch?
Oh yeah, I agree with you. Potentially it will be Mario no doubt. But I'm talking Ws. So far Mario has 5.Totally reasonable response
Well if you think Randy Shannon, Larry Coker, Al Golden, Manny Diaz, or Mark Richt is better than ok. Richt would be one argument, but he was on a retirement tour, and had early onset Dementia.
At least the administration has committed financially to put Miami in top 2-3 of the ACC. It hasn't been like that. Georgia Tech paid their head coach more than Miami for years. Nc State too.
Now Miami is paying more than they ever had for HC, assistant coaches, support staff (nutrition, S&C, sports science), and facilities.
Miami was the last program in the ACC to have an indoor practice facility! They didn't even have a turf practice field in 2012. They didn't have lights on Greentree until around then. They paid their Head Coaches around 7th best HC salaries in ACC. Assistant pools weren't great even though cost of living was much higher.'
I'm just glad Mario has gotten here, and opened everyone's eyes as to what it needs to look like in big time college football. Now let's see the wins follow.
Agree. I said AT MIAMI. What has he done here? Potentially it very well could end up being Mario. As a decades long fan, gosh, I'm hoping so.If you're basing it on resumes before Miami, It's either him or Richt.
Seems to be one or the other from the outside looking in. I hope it's the later and they open the coffers to the whole board and not just the that are no sure thing. We’re not broke, we’re just cheap…
yup, and these kids never change their minds after committing...They can be 8-0 come November 1st but almost everyone will be already committed elsewhere
In general, those on the board running with information provided + Mario’s past recruiting success - often used to combat criticism.
Last year it was reminding everyone of Top 3 and then 5 and then 7…. Which is nothing to sneeze at by any means, but everyone knows going from 12-10-7 is a helluva lot better than dropping from 3-5-7
First season sucked? It was abysmal. Most coaches may have bad 1st years but they don't typically regress in EVERY possible category. He literally was worse at everything than Manny.
Typically they have something they can hang their hat on. A statistical improvement. A big win. A few players who really improved their draft stock. An improvement in the record.
Mario literally has nothing.
You know how easy it would be to negative recruit Mario/Miami right now?
20 years since Taint*
Perhaps we are dead and just cashing our ACC checks in perpetuity.
Honestly, she’s gone long enough now that there’s really no excuses for not having made it better. It’s not three years ago anymore.
I think I’ve gained enough credibility of being pretty unbiased with staffs / coaches. Last season I was one of the few that went at Mario and the offense after a couple games. I lambasted him pretty good and deservingly so. While others with YT channels / writers would refuse to do it and make excuses and blame only the players. Only because they don’t want to lose access.not many on here can objectively analyze a situation. When it comes to our own it’s excuse and rationalization about every short coming. When it comes to others, they will completely ignore any context and any scenario that if assigned to one of our own they would defend to their death. We shouldn’t have lost Barney to Rhule but he 100% has the benefit of the doubt right now because he hasn’t coached a game at NEB and his CFB track record is excellent.

More of this is on that ***** up in Boston college and Julio Frenk being dead to the world until a year and a half ago
Have you heard anything about how the offense has been coming along? Lake mentioned on Cover 3 that he's heard Mario has been real happy with the offense.I think I’ve gained enough credibility of being pretty unbiased with staffs / coaches. Fact is Mario helped create a narrative about himself and it’s up to him to change it. To his credit bringing in Dawson shows he’s open to trying to change things.
Last year I was pretty negative on the offense at this time. From the receivers dropping balls and not picking up the scheme to the Ol being one injury away from being a **** show. This year I feel much better about things. From the OL being bigger / deeper , skill players being more spread out with guys being put in position to succeed and just a more mature group. On top of that being much more talented, which always helps. Dawson is the complete opposite of Gattis , schematically , coaching style and personality wise. Tbh the entire staff is total 180.Have you heard anything about how the offense has been coming along? Lake mentioned on Cover 3 that he's heard Mario has been real happy with the offense.
This year's fall camp intel will be crucial. Last year the warning signs were clear and the season played out accordingly to that fall camp intel.Have you heard anything about how the offense has been coming along? Year 1 of the Mario era was a stinker - putting it mildly. No excuses. It’s all on him. This is a "what have you done for me lately" business and all he's proven HERE at Miami is that he can't win, just like every other coach of the last 2 decades.

Looking at the big picture, Mario is following 20 years of (with the exception of Richt’s 10-3) 7-5 mediocrity and lack of football program support and followed the Diaz disaster.
Mario now apparently has the resources to better compete in today’s CFB landscape. Overcoming 20 years of mediocrity in 18 months isn’t realistic. Whether or not Mario can get it done is yet to be determined and the time frame is anyone’s guess.
