A Canes fan: When and Why for you?

Well the primary reason is I like college football and Im not a gray rekard...

Not that you need any other reason other than that, but Im a lauderhill kid whose parents had season tickets.

Going on 51 years now. 👴

Two older brothers: one a Gator for life the other a Nole for life. So my choice was simple as that.

Saw the Canes beat the Univ. of Tampa Spartans and the great Freddy Solomon in 1974 at the old Tampa Stadium and was hooked for good

45 years. First took notice of UM in 1980 when the Hurricanes were ranked and made the Peach Bowl. 9 wins in 1980, 9 wins in 1981, and then the National Championship in 1983. Pretty much sealed where I was going to college.

Moved to Miramar in 1974, dad got transferred. About 77 or 78, when I began to really pay attention to college football. Miami was the home team and my team.. Remember when Saban was hired, then Schnelly. Said after that Peach Bowl win to my mom, Miami is coming up!

71 while Fran Curci was the coach. As a student i remember a lot of the players from that era had a few classes with the like of chuck forman burgess Owens a roommate of mine later tutored Ruben carter. All great memories of the orange bowl. Best years of my younger life were at the U.

561 all day. but started in 07 and never looked back or around for another team even though those seasons where borderline torture, nobody should ever witness their team get blowed in the final game at they’re legendary stadium. Favorite earliest moment was getting fooled by that #1 ranked 08 recruiting class lol. Knew I had an obsession when I bet a friend $50 back in high school that my canes would beat uf in 2013. Didn’t have a dollar to my name but the boys came through for me😂

Grandparents moved to Miami in the early 40’s, grandfather was a carpenter and there was lots of work in Miami. My mom and her family lived in Allapattah and went to Jackson.
Everyone ended up working at Pan Am or eastern. None of them went to college, especially not Miami, but it was their adopted team and has been ever since.

SEPT 1 1973 - I had moved from Maine to UM to finish my last 2 years..decided to go to the Friday evening game with a lovely coed I'd met (likely that day). We were playing UT with ALL American Heisman winner Roosevelt Leaks expected to crush us. Sat on a quiet private bleacher area around the 25 yard line, enjoying 420 time, full moon and cool ocean breeze and watched the amazing upset of the preseason #1 team. It was ALMOST as orgasmic as what happened during and again after the game. I so loved the experiences that I became a Silver Cane upon my return from Colombia and shortly thereafter a Golden Cane and Living Scholar. Still miss the OB and W2 parking lot.

Grew up in Homestead Fl. My 2 brothers and I are hardcore fans! Love meeting people cause of my canes gear, which I wear almost all the time. Canes fans are everywhere! Got to watch games in the old Orange Bowl back in the late 70's early 80's

1988. Freshman year roommate at UNH (New Hampshire) said we should transfer to Miami. I liked the anti establishment image of the Canes. I transferred. He didn’t. One of my best decisions. I chose my school based upon a football team. My wife still thinks that was crazy.

I try to explain to my wife being a Miami fan is different, we’re not like other fanbases corny as this my sound I feel an instant connection with other Canes fans.
