Born raised in South Carolina moved to Utah when i was 14 moved to west palm beach at 21 moved backto South Carolina. It became offical when i was about 10 years old Edge got drafted to the Colts an i started watching College football every Saturday. It was crazy Miami was just different the speed was on another level Ed Reed an Ray Lewis went to Baltimore and i ended up a Ravens fan. Out of any sport any team the Hurricanes are my favorite team i get on this site everyday since i found it just to read. Idk if we can ever get back to where we were but i hope we get back to dominating its just different when the Hurricanes Dominate! Go Canes 💚🧡

Nice to meet a fellow Conch. Born in Key West in 77’ and grew up behind Searstown. Went to Poinciana Elementary and Horace O’ Bryant but started to get too expensive so my parents moved us out in 89-90. From what I’ve heard it’s mostly transplants there now.

Gotta admit this makes me a little sad.

Places like this all around North Florida.

I don't begrudge people for moving here, but it's hard for me not to prefer the slower pace of life we used to have

It’s not that bad. Yes, it has changed but there’s still a lot of the old places that made in KW. I would say the traffic is the worse thing about our island now. I spend a good portion of the winter there and I still have the childhood feel of the place.

Great to hear!

Other than going to see grandma when she retired to St. Pete, our family just about never traveled further south than Daytona or Ocala.

Always have wanted to visit Key West, but hadn't made it there yet. What's the best month(s) to visit as far as when there's not a whole lot going on?

A large majority of the snowbirds leave after Easter, prices and lodging drop dramatically. The only negative is the heat rolls in. Although, being from Florida it shouldn’t be too bad for you. To answer your question, May- the end of October is nice. You definitely want to beat the Fantasy Fest rush around Halloween.

**** I didn't realize there were this many Conchs on here.

Graduated KWHS in 2007. Also went to Poinciana and HOB lol.

Thank you sir!

Definitely want to make that happen.

I'd much rather drive than fly, but the wife thinks the 4 hour car ride from Lake City to Destin is like going to the moon and back. So I'm pretty sure we'll be flying 🫤

I've heard the Key West "airport" is pretty, uh, quaint

Born and raised in Wisconsin, family is full of Wisconsin alumni, season ticket holders, and donors. I joke that I became a Miami fan to rebel against my dad by picking the most anti-Wisconsin type of program out there.

In reality, I was always at the YMCA on Saturday mornings and the 11 am Big East on ESPN slot was on the TVs. I was just starting to play PeeWee's at the end of the 90's and Miami was the 'baddest MF-ers you know.' I couldn't get enough. I wrote Miami coverage for the school news paper as if anyone else actually cared lol.

First time I ever swore at my dad, was the Ohio State national championship game... I was really upset and he said "CreamCityCane, some things just aren't meant to be." and I replied "F off." Under normal circumstances something like that would have gotten the taste smacked out of my mouth, but to my surprise, he let it slide... he knew it meant something real to me. I'll remember that moment forever.

Of course.

I think you should take the drive since it’s your 1st visit. The scenery never gets old, the 30-55moh speed limit does! Especially the key deer protection area. If the place grows on you, start flying down after that.

😆. Quaint is a good word to describe it. I flew in on Christmas morning and just flew out last week. It wasn’t bad. There’s a ton of construction going on but the staff does a great job of keeping people moving. The renovation looks great. It will be a nice airport, eventually!

Going on 51 years now. 👴

Two older brothers: one a Gator for life the other a Nole for life. So my choice was simple as that.

Saw the Canes beat the Univ. of Tampa Spartans and the great Freddy Solomon in 1974 at the old Tampa Stadium and was hooked for good
My dad and uncle were born and raised down in Hialeah. They were both Canes and Fins fans so it's just been who I was. By the time I was born we were living in central Florida but I've got pics being dressed in Canes and fins gear as a baby and a young kid. My first memories of really caring and following them on my own was watching the 2000 season when I was 12-13 years old....really great time to start following them (if I only knew what would follow after those few fun years 🤣)... But I'll never change up. I live in North florida now but I still travel down atleast once a season and catch a game.

Conch here as well. Born there in 77’. My family was close friends with the Mira’s and I remember eating at that pizza joint as a kid. I played baseball with Mario right across the street. I was also close with the Menendez family. Jon, who owned Jon’s Hams was my baseball coach for years and a great man. Was also close with the Swift family.
I knew all of those guys but Nothing like stopping by Jon's for a Cuban Sandwich. I moved out in '80 right when it started to lose its small island feel and started turning into nothing but a tourist trap where it was too expensive to live.

11/28/1987 was the day I became a fan. 24-0 over ND. Still remember it like it was yesterday & I was 5 yrs old. Me, & 2 of my older cousins are all Canes’ fans b/c of that game. Hence y I get very upset seeing a Canes’ fan saying they’re rooting for ND. I hate them more than any team not named UF.

born in Orlando in '91. Grew up very close to my uncle who was a die-hard FSU fan.

Just to be different, I started following the canes (because he hated them) closely around '97/'98 and then got hooked.

Watching the 2000-2002 run had me hooked for life, even when I moved to Charlotte in middle school

2002, Freshman year St. John’s University.

Was broke and roommate was a big sports fan. Had nothing to do, so he told me to sit and watch some football. Just so happened to be Miami/FSU…what a game! Saw #26 baptize ol boy late in the game and I was hooked (pause). I was a fan as soon as that kick went left. I was rooting hard for a team I just sat and watched…Greg Jones just mauling guys that day…

Watched my favorite guy (pause again) Sean Taylor week after week…pure amazement, I KNEW the Canes were my guys…just got tickets for my bday yesterday for my FIRST Hurricanes home game! Wish I coulda went to the Orange Bowl but it’s vs UFag Im so excited!!! Man Go effing Canes man!!!

My Dad wasn’t much of a College Football Fan so we use to only watch the Dolphins when I was young. One day I was flipping through the channels and saw UM playing UCLA, the infamous Edgerrin James game. I was 8 at the time and that’s the earliest memory I have of watching a game, let’s just say that’s all she wrote for me lol. I eventually went to Grad school at UM, it was one of those things that once I became a fan I wanted to attend there. Now my kids are huge UM fans and I take them to games whenever I can.

I started following Miami in'86 after the Oklahoma game. Game was not as close as the score indicated. I recall the fight at the end and how Jerome scared the pee pee out of OU. This was also Vinny's heisman game.

I sat on my uncles lap for the 84 ship. My uncle played 68-70. He had me in a old school hat and the shiny green jacket lol

I fell in love that day as an 8 year old. I had season tix 98-2006 . Best times of my life for football. Watched many insane game at the OB
.
My oldest son received a full ride for UF. He is a sophomore with a perfect gpa.
.
My youngest is a Miami junkie like me lol he's a good football player for real. Little undersized but he'll be a jr in highschool next year. Current measurements 6ft 1 245. All conference guard and DE as a sophomore.

I brought both boys to 20+ games during their youth.
