2025 Roster Discussion

He's actually not awful at all unless you want your catcher to be really good offensively, he threw out 54% of runners and is good at framing pitches which definitely matters.
Brother if one of his top traits is framing pitches, it's awful.

This team needs hitters.

Hes going to be framing pitchers for pitchers who are gonna have 5 eras across the board. We need runs.

Can't complain about the catcher pickup. Not a lot of them are weapons offensively. More importantly he is strong defensively and can manage a staff and he's proven to do that and threw out more stolen base attempts than he allowed which is rare.

Still need another catcher IMO.

Veteran hitters also frequently taking huge strides at the plate when they make it to year 4-5. Happened for Scanlon who wasn't even a .180 hitter in his 4 year career before 2024. Smith is probably a good candidate for that to happen. Maybe not .300 but could get in the .275 range and hit 6-8 homeruns.

If you're trying to compare to the national champion... he's better than Cal Stark.

Those are fair points. Although Scanlon had worse numbers at Oregon. If and it might be a big if we get Diaz, I think we'll be fairly good offensively. Although good versus decent matters very little if the pitching is awful again.

Whats up with Diaz? He a lock to come here if he doesn't get drafted high enough?

Just announced on twitter he's committing
He has decent numbers it looks like he was primarily a bullpen guy. Looks to be a pitch to contact pitcher. He only averaged slightly over 2 innings per appearance, so my guess is Miami views him as a possible closer or set up guy. Although he definitely doesn't have the strikeout numbers you would like to see in a closer.

Naturman in the portal per D1
Last day to enter the portal is Tuesday. We currently have 48 on the books (at least publicly), which drops down to 43 if you assume Shields, King, Gage, Rafe, and Herick are lost in the draft.

Bat signal is out. Also, someone help JD with the signal. We can definitely have a better one.

Did Jimenez really enter the portal?

Why would you leave when you hit like .157 for the season?

Who’s advising these kids? Seriously, man.

Why would you leave when your value is at its absolute rock bottom?
A nice way of saying, we have someone taking your position...we don't have a position for you....take your sub .200 average and move on....
He is fortunate to have a landing spot...

Who told him that?

Do we even know who is running our baseball program? (If JD isn’t the one prioritizing our roster acquisition, who the **** is?)
