The race to 300 is a fascinating metric to track. In the last 3 years, the only programs to reach the 300-point mark in a class were:
2021 - Alabama, Ohio State
2022 - Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State
2023 - Alabama, Georgia, Texas
For perspective on the level of recruiting you have to achieve to get there, the four programs that landed a 300+ score in 2022 signed a total of 11 3* recruits. That's not 11 3*'s per program. That's 11 3*'s combined between those 4 schools.
The only programs to reach that score in the past 3 years that signed 5 or more 3*'s in a single class were Georgia in 2022 (they signed 8 3*'s but also landed 5 5*'s and 17 4*'s, including 11 Top 100 players) and Texas in 2023 (they signed 7 3*'s but also landed 4 5*'s and 14 4*'s, including 8 Top 100 players).
I keep harping on how we do at the premium positions (QB, WR, OL, DL, CB) and how that matters far more than overall class rank. The race to 300, average rating per recruit, and number of Top 100 overall signees matter far more than overall class rank as well. It'll be a glorious day when/if we're able to reach this level of recruiting. Hopefully Mario and our NIL contributors can help get us there.
