2014 starting defense

Mr 485 now.....I see a slight 5% improvement unless Chick can get double teamed a young True Frosh will get a lil tired

I think we should be playing some more 4-3 than 3-4..

DE - AQM
DT - Pierre
DT - Wyche
DE - McCord

OLB - Figs
MLB - Kirby
OLB - Perryman

CB - Gunter
S - Jenkins
S - Bush
CB - Howard

DE - Chickillo
DT - Pierre
DE- C. Thomas
LB - Fig
LB - Perryman
LB - McCord/Kirby
LB - AQM
CB - Howard
S - Bush
S - Jenkins
CB - Gunter

pass rush should be better.

If Olsen Pierre starts at NT in a 3-4, we are dead. He can not play nose. He needs to play the 3....and he needs to lose a little weight. He struggled mightily with the extra mass last year. He was at his best 2 years ago when he was under 300.

I like this except I'd have Chick at DE and bring in McCord in pass rush situations. I'd slim Chick down although it may be too late. I prefer a 4-3 because it fits our personnel a lot better. McCord and now Smith/McCray are the only 2 guys that would probably be better fits as OLBs in a 3-4.

As far as DT goes. I'd just have a competition with Pierre, Wyche, Heurtelou, Moore, Kamalu, Moten, Jenkins and let the best 2 start and best 4-5 for the rotation.

I mean that is not a bad looking lineup.

If they dont produce this year, then the **** with it all.

Here's the thing - no team (not even Miami) 2-gaps all the time, not even at the NT position. That said, for most NTs you're looking for a big, strong wide body who can hold the point of attack and clog space. It's not a glamorous position, but it's the position from which the entire defense flows. The ability to clog lanes frees up the DE, DT, and Jack to flow to the ball without having to read/react - it's why Seattle could generate so much pressure without blitzing.

Our guys are asked to plain contain more than what you typically see at the college level. It's relatively flawed to cite what the NFL guys are doing unless it's something a college program can duplicate.

I agree - I think Bama is more along the lines of what they'd like to do (or what I *think* they'd like to do) as a collegiate example. They're doing it with a bit of Florida talent as well.

Front 7 2-deep IMO:

SDE - Chick/Thomas
DT - Pierre/Kamalu
NT - Wyche/Heurtelou
Jack - McCord/AQM
WLB - Perryman/Young
MLB - Kirby/Armbrister
SLB - Figs/Grace

For comparison, 2013 (listed as 4-3 depth chart on hurricanesports.com):

DE - Chick/Kamalu
DT - Porter/Renfrow
DT - Pierre/Robinson
DE - Green/Gilbert
LB - Armbrister/McCord
LB - Gaines/Kirby
LB - Perryman/Cornelius

Thin *** 240lb Chad Thomas is gonna play 3-4 DE?

3-4
DT - Chick/Kamalu
NT - Wyche/Hertelou
DT - Pierre/Hamilton
OLB - McCord/Thomas
ILB - Perryman/Figs/Young or Blue
ILB - Kirby or Figs/Grace
OLB - Muhammed/Armbrister/Smith
CB - Howard/Crawford
CB - Gunter/Burns
S - Bush/Carter/RL3
S - Jenkins/Hester/Gayot

4-3
SDE - Muhammed/Thomas
DT - Pierre/Hamilton/Moten
NG - Wyche/Hertelou/Moore
WDE - McCord/Hoilett
SAM - Figs/Grace
MLB - Kirby/Blue or Young
WILL - Perryman/Armbrister/Owens

The reason I like Chad and Trent Harris is because they're going to be able to rush the passer and stop the run on the edges

We don't have the ******* personnel to run a 3-4.

The only player we have with the size to be a nose is Wyche. Pierre, Moore, Heurtelou should not be lined up over the center trying to control the A-gaps.

I agree but I would still prefer the lineup I posted than the alternative. Its our most explosive and athletic lineup.

The only difference I'd make with your lineup is I'd put McCord/AQMs hand in the dirt at one end and Kick Pierre inside a little more. Same personnel just different alignment. I don't wan't to see McCord or AQM in coverage.

You lineup is fine, but who plays nose behind Wyche?

3-4
DT - Chick/Kamalu
NT - Wyche/Hertelou
DT - Pierre/Hamilton
OLB - McCord/Thomas
ILB - Perryman/Figs/Young or Blue
ILB - Kirby or Figs/Grace
OLB - Muhammed/Armbrister/Smith
CB - Howard/Crawford
CB - Gunter/Burns
S - Bush/Carter/RL3
S - Jenkins/Hester/Gayot

4-3
SDE - Muhammed/Thomas
DT - Pierre/Hamilton/Moten
NG - Wyche/Hertelou/Moore
WDE - McCord/Hoilett
SAM - Figs/Grace
MLB - Kirby/Blue or Young
WILL - Perryman/Armbrister/Owens

Close, but not quite IMO. AQM and McCord should not play end at the same time unless obvious passing downs.

How I'd line us up in a 4-3:

SDE-Chick, Kamalu, Thomas, Hoilett
DT-Pierre, Moore, Hamilton
NG-Wyche, Heurtelou, Alexis
WDE-McCord, AQM, D Jack

Sam-Figs, Owens
MLB-Kirby, Blue, Young
WLB-Perryman, Thurston, Grace

Passing downs you could kick Chick or Kamalu down to DT and have AQM and McCord outside.
