Yes the issues are connected because every school has an NIL budget. Last year the bulk of the NIL budget was spent on Oline recruits, which left less money for some other positions, including DLine. This year we will be spending a lesser percentage on Oline thereby leaving a greater percentage of the NIL budget for Dline. As I wrote earlier, expect this to change from year to year depending on what the staff identifies as the most important positions of need.

But back to my original point. UM, like every university, has an NIL budget that is not unlimited. Therefore choices have to be made., Stop thinking of this as a football team and think of this as what it really is, a corporation. Corporations have budgets and priorities. And sometimes the CEO has to make tough choices as to what the priority is in a given year.

The more powerful recruiting tool today in college sports is NIL. Plain and simple. Kids will follow the money, with some exceptions for; coaching preferences, geography, depth charts, etc.. But those are exceptions and not the rule. The rule is NIL. So when UM prioritizes its NIL budget to obtaining the (2) best offensive tackles, it does so at the expense of another position.

I’m not telling you to be happy that UM has an NIL budget, or how much money the Mario makes, or how much money any CEO makes. But everything I am telling you is reality.
Dude, you are carrying on and on. I am a retired military guy. I am results oriented. You can continue to carry on with all of this BS if you like. If they had prioritized DT the way they did OL we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Instead, portal shopping again just like Manny and they will be doing it again next year. The direct results of not bringing in enough big time HS talent is portal shopping and settling for scraps!

Well they are addressing both of them. In consecutive class. Just dont happen like magic. And yes it OL reccruiting and the overall class do have shyyt to do with recruiting. You have so many hours in a day and so mucb resources to put into each player's recruiting. And Maybe they did try to do both, which is why they got rid of alot of coaches as apparently they were not tenacious enough. Rod Wright, Steele and Strong out, Taylor, Guidry etc in. U just gonna have to be mad for some more months brother
This is all bla bla bla

I am retired military and results oriented. Obviously you aren’t if you don’t see this as a big issue with the last class. None of what you are talking about has any got **** thing to do with them not hitting DT recruiting as hard as they did the OL. So they were so focused on OL they forgot about DT when supposedly they have the knowledge that they need to hold up at the LOS on BOTH sides.

All of these 3 technique and portal guys (scraps) are not fixing the problem. It is like a temporary patch on a gaping hole. Every year they don’t bring in big time HS talent at the position means another year of portal shopping for scraps, which is what both of the guys they are recruiting through the portal are. Malone has sucked at Ole ****. No other way to call it!

I said what i said very clearly. Military service aint got shyyt to do with recruiting high school kids. Like i saod, u just have to stay mad for some more months. Simple.

Being retired military is an absolute non-sequitur. If logic and understanding of budgets means nothing to you then you are clearly on the side of chosen ignorance. Best of luck.

Not feasible to fill every spot in year 1 with elite talent when virtually almost every starting spot was occupied by less than elite talent. Mario brought in possibly the best OL class in the last 20 years for the 2023 class and the staff is working on brining in the best DL class in 20 years for the 2024 class, in addition to a couple of added OL. THAT is the foundation building process, then it is a matter of WINNING on the field and getting the right numbers at each position in every recruiting cycle. THAT is how a rebuild is orchestrated.

So your saying you were in the military?

Well, no military background other than jr rotc, but this sounds practical & stated with much common sense. Can’t build out the entire unit in one or two recruiting seasons.

Missed out on being drafted to Vietnam so I went to The U, and 50+ years of being a Cane gives me a little perspective. Have seen us go from the embarrassment of the “ Gator Flop” to the greatness of multiple NC’s. Also, rebuild after rebuild with minimal success. This rebuild looks and feels different. Mario is nothing if anything but methodical, deliberate and determined, IMO. Building from the ground up is difficult at best and he is working to get the foundation in place piece by piece. Asking CANESNATION to be patient is like ****ing in the wind at this point. But hopefully it will be rewarded and we will be tasting success and not our own ****,.. again.#CANESNATIONLIFER🙌🏽

Look at it this way bro.... Lets throw the budget management and all other recruiting factors out the window for a second. Say last year we signed the best recruiting class in history, legit swept the board and got the top guy at each position. A good portion still wouldnt be ready to go this year and for the ones who are it is never a good idea to have too many freshman playing at once (especially at DL and OL historically).

Now if you sign that great class and STILL go 5-7 and have a **** show on the field, you now have to recruit against that and it makes your next year also an issue. These portal guys, for the most part (absent a guy like Messidor or a true bonafide stud), are just that, a temporary patch until the true fix/patch (through HS recruiting) has had time to cure. You are results oriented, that is fine, but even in the military did you ever just run blindly into a situation in order to "get results" or were there occasions where you plant seeds and need to wait for those seeds to grow to get the results?

Take Bama for example. I am sure you will agree they have recruited HS better than any team in the last ten years. Consistently in the top 2. Do you think the ND QB is their QB for the future? Or a temporary patch to try and keep the ship afloat for this season until the younger guys mature?

I'm not far behind on my years with the U. I also agree he's doing a complete remake from the ground up. Think about what's he done over the last year.
1. Brought us a new AD who happens to be great at what he does.
2. Building one of the most impressive football facilities in the country with a large support staff.
3. Fixing the indoor practice facility.
4. Bringing in a top 7 class
5. Not sticking with mediocre coaching like previous staffs.

It's a bright future from what I see.

Facts

The fan base needs to be patient. This program was a disaster.

Two linebackers will be visiting- Konnor Near (Ferris State) and Larry Nixon (North Texas). Both are All-Conference players at their level and project as inside backers. Neer has three years of eligibility, while Larry Nixon has one. Miami wants competition there. Neer is coming for one day on a straight business trip. It is likely going to come down to Miami and Oklahoma, where he just visited.

No offense to you, but overall class and OL recruiting doesn't have a got **** thing to do with DT recruiting! Telling me things I already know don't matter either. You want to be big time along the fronts, then address both of them properly. After all, you are only getting paid $8M a year.
